I visited this facility
I visited this facility while a former client of mine was staying there for rehabilitation. It is located in a convenient part of Charlotte and was very near her family. The facility accepted Medicaid and those two factors made it a convenient choice for her during that stay. The facility is average sized but most rooms are shared. The rooms could be cleaner, as could the hallways and shared space. I noticed several ants during my visit and also some curtains and bedding that just looked old, and were in need of replacement. We mentioned these concerns to staff but I did not feel that they were anxious to immediately address the problems. Overall, I would say the facility could just use some updating in general. The nursing staff at this facility were below average in my opinion. I didn't feel that they attended to my client's needs as they should have. She told me that on more than one occasion she rang for a nurse to come and it took over 1/2 hour and several calls before someone came (she was a very sharp woman and I tend to believe her time estimates here). She also presented with a bed sore upon discharge that she did not have at admission and her feelings were that it was because she sat in soiled undergarments while waiting for staff to assist her. In addition, she mentioned to me that at one time a nurse almost mixed up her medications, and came very close to giving one to her at the wrong time of day. She said that the mistake was caught, and the nurse did administer the correct medication, but the mix up and confusion surrounding this event really concerned my client, and I was concerned as well. On a positive note, we did discuss this concern with the Director of Nursing who assured us it would not happen again and stated they would offer the nurse responsible some additional training to assist in correcting / preventing the problem. A few positives about this facility - the physical therapy space was nice and the staff seemed friendly. The grounds are pretty well kept and there is some outdoor space for the residents to enjoy. The Social Worker was helpful upon discharge. Though there are some positives, as I've mentioned, overall I would not recommend this facility - especially for long term care. The medical concerns I mentioned raise some pretty big safety red flags for me and I think that management and staff should do more to address them. I also think that some updates and "freshening up" of the facility would help to give it more of a home like feel.
