Lost all confidence November 11, 2016

Heartland has been a very bad experience for my family member. When they were in there they got bad food. They were very impatient with my family member. When my family member would call for the nurse they would not come in a timely manner. Did not give water on a routine basis. Overall my family has lost all confidence in medical Care Facilities.

I am/was a resident of this facility
My elderly mother went to Heartland for rehab after having cardiac surgery, and was in the facility for 3 weeks from January 2016 to early February 2016. It was the first time she had stayed in a rehab facility. I was anxious about how she would be treated as she can be difficult to get along with.
Everyone at Heartland, from the receptionist at the front desk, to the people who cleaned her room, brought the meals, physical therapists, nurses, nurse practioners, and the doctor, were unbelievably kind and caring. My mother had had physical therapy before in her home when she had knee surgery, and her interaction with the physical therapist was not successful; however, the physical therapists at Heartland were patient, compassionate, and didn't give up on her, and her physical therapy was a success. The nurses, doctor, and nurse practitioner always took the time to listen to her, explain their plans to help her, and tell her what those plans would accomplish.
Probably the best compliment that could be given to everyone at Heartland came from my mother on the day she was discharged: she said that if she had to go to a rehab facility again, she'd return to Heartland.

My mother was in Heartland of West Ashley. They had amenities, and there was a lot of stuff for the patients to do. However, they left her in bed all week, so she didn't get to participate in anything. The dining room was really nice, but she had to eat in bed. They also lost her shoes. There's not much that really impressed me about it. They need more staff.

My mom is in Heartland for a rehab. We opted for this facility because several people recommended it and when we visited this place, we were impressed with it. The nurses are very caring. The physical therapy girls are really wonderful. The caregivers are very kind and very helpful. They're very sweet girls. I like the way they treat the patients there. My mom seems to enjoy their food. She is not a really good eater, but she ate most of the stuff they served and they looked good. My mom is in a private room. It has plenty of spaces for her. She has a bed, a nice big dresser and drawer, a TV and a nightstand. They also have a wheelchair there for her.
When my mom first moved into Heartland, she didn't want anybody to leave her. She was 91 and she was scared to stay there. After a few days, she got used to it and she said to me, "You know, it's really not that bad." That was a big compliment coming from her! She said that they are really good to her. Overall, she has had a good experience. In fact, she is doing much better now and she will be going home in a couple of days. I felt that if she had to have that kind of care again, she would be more willing to go back.
