My name is Barbara, I am a nurse of 23 years. I had to place my mother in long-term care seven years ago for Alzheimer’s/Dementia. She was placed in the Homestead Unit at Corsica Hills. The first two to three years went well. During COVID management changed from Genesis to Complete Care Corsica Hills. Since Complete Care took over, the care there has declined. I get it, COVID changed healthcare and caused a lot of nurses to leave their positions. Travelers began to back-fill the gaps in nursing and aids at this center. Travelers don’t know much about the residents or develop a nurse patient relationship. Often travelers are paid more than regular staff when under contract. Hence the facility loses good staff who knew the resident’s names, personalities, pet peeves (likes and dislikes), and limitations. When this changed occurred in the unit, is when I noticed the change in my mother’s care. She was often left in her wheelchair for many hours after several falls. Now she is contracted (stiff joints that don’t bend) in the shape of the wheelchair. I visited often and would find her sitting in her own feces and urine crying her bottom hurt. Mom smelled strong of urine and sweat and when I asked about her personal hygiene, I was told there was no documentation to show that she was showered and often I was told she refused. Many concerns regarding patient safety occurred and they were reported to Director, Director of Nursing, the manager of the unit and the State of MD in December 2022 through January 2023. Meetings occurred between management and me after I voiced my concerns. Mom deteriorated over a weekend resulting in a hospitalization. After her discharge and several weeks of the same thing we found a nursing home closer to me in Delaware. Since her move mom is doing great. She is off all the psych medications; she can now participate in activities. Our visits are meaningful as she is no longer chemically sedated. I do not recommend this facility. It’s unkept and the integrity of walls and ceilings are in need repair. The floors are filthy. During the dayshift there is some accountability. However, when management leaves for the day the evening and weekends shifts there seems to be no accountability. The travelers who do not know the patient names tend to be on their cell phones, texting and watching videos while wearing earbuds and not attending to the residents. The residents at Complete Care Corsica Hills are not provided safe quality patient care that they deserve.

My friend is no longer with us and i have moved out of State, but decided to review for the next family, if you are placing them in the memory wing. The wing was dirty and the limited staff that they did have, were on their cell phones constantly. My friend was so medicated, that i did not recognize her. I would not recommend this facility.

My mother has been at Corsica since Nov of 2016 and I can not say enough great things about the staff. She is in their Homestead Memory Care Unit and the nurses, aides, director and activity staff are amazing. They take such excellent care of mom and this gives me such peace of mind especially since I live in Delaware and I'm not as close as I would have liked. It is such a hard thing to put a loved one in a nursing home but if you need to, I would highly recommend Corsica Hills.

My mother has been in Corsica Hills Center since December..we live in Delaware and although we wanted her closer to us, but we are glad that she is at Corsica. The care and service has been excellent, especially the nursing staff that are always there to take care of my mother's needs. The place is clean, smells clean and the staff is friendly as well as the communication from those in charge and us has been much appreciated....We definitely recommend Corsica.

My dad had to go after his knee replacement for rehab. Some days were ok, some days were rough. My dad rang for the nurse to help him back in bed. It took 10 minutes for someone to come. You hardly ever see a nurse come through.

Corsica Hills Centre is a good facility. We can do whatever we want to do with our room and I treat it as my house. We do have a monthly schedule of activities like exercise or bowling. We have entertainers come every now and then. We also have Bible study and people come in and sing. They basically keep us active all the time. I think the only problem is that they don’t have enough aides working to help everybody.
