I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt moved into Victorian Place of Washington. She used to live in the middle of a wooded area, and this place is set up with woods behind it, and a little pond in front. The welcome that we got when we came to visit there, and the people who remembered my aunt's name, were very welcoming. My aunt's room was nice. We liked that they fixed any patched or former stuff in the walls. They also had it furnished. They provided a bed and a sofa, so that made it easy to get her moved in quickly. They have something called Balance Academy that they do in the mornings during the week. It's a little exercise class to get everybody engaged. They go to the library. They do quite a lot of things. They seem to be very resident centered. The pricing is all-inclusive, so they do not keep adding unless it gets more extreme. We've been very happy so far. It's easy to contact them, and they've just been very helpful.

I visited this facility

We toured The Arbors at Victorian Place. It was very nice. I really liked it a lot. The layout was good. Everything about it was good. I did not try their food, but their dining area was very nice. The staff was so nice and so friendly. The whole atmosphere felt like home away from home. The physical conditions were very good. They provided activities to the level of each patient.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have spent alot of time in this community over the past several years visiting friends. As with any home, it's not perfect. Compared to other homes- it IS better. Why? Because the overall care is excellent, the staff really care. They truly have a person centered plan for every resident and they get to know that residents preferences. Their activity schedule reflects these preferences. There was a resident that really loved bowling but now has dementia. The family had no interest in taking this person out anymore... but the staff took her and she had the time of her life. Every person that I have met that works in these communities is excellent. I will use them if ever needed in the future. I also won't wait until it's too late. Rooms are very large with kitchenette suites and accessible showers. Lots of activities going on most every day. Food is delicious and lots of choices. Much less expensive than the St Louis county areas.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Victoria Manor is very clean, and it’s an apartment typesetting. It has a large dining area for everyone to come in the middle with. It is decorated really nice and homey, and it’s very clean. The food is not gourmet -- it's pretty basic food -- and it’s close to homemade. Both of my parents are there, and they have twin beds just for convenience for them so they use a walker and get in between. The apartment is divided between a living space, a kitchen, and a bedroom. The staff is very helpful, but I would say they probably need more help with experienced cooking. The food is fine; it’s not like restaurant quality but I would cook. Their staff is really good. It’s a small community they can spend time with each residents, and I don’t really have any complaints about that. Just the food service could be a little bit higher quality. They just hired an activities director; they are just getting started with routine activities. They had some before, but now they have more. I think they are doing really good. They have bingo, family nights where we can come in and eat with them, and for special occasions they invite us to be there. They have exercise classes, picnics, and outings; it has been pretty nice. This place is a little bit more. They can kind of do what they want, and they allow pets.

I am a friend or relative of resident

This is a very nice facility but I have a few complaints. My mother-in-law is living there and has been there since March of this year. We go every Saturday to visit and we started visiting at her lunch time. Why in the world would anyone serve fried chicken every week and it isn't even fresh chicken (frozen). Then they have another type of chicken at lease 2 more times that week. Come on the money the residents pay to stay there and this is what they are served. Canned vegetables. BLT sandwiches and you have to really look to find the bacon. So disappointed with the meals. Plus, activities that are on the schedule are never followed through. This is just ridiculous. Then you have someone roaming the halls and entering other residents rooms and going through their belongings. I saw the key to the rooms and couldn't believe it. That is not a safe key. Overall, need to plan fresh meat and vegetables for the meals. Lay off so much starch and carbohydrates. Feed them a decent meal. Oh and another thing, dessert should not be served until they are finished with their meal. Ice cream totally melted time they ate it. Crazy! Right now my rating is a 2 star due to meals and no activities.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When I first walked into this new facility, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The entire entrance was newly built, and with class. The outside had a pond with a fountain and available seating around it. I thought that was nice to put that in for the residents to have a pretty place outside too. The staff was very friendly and willing to answer questions. I got information about meals, and activities. They had an activity program, but since there were only 12 residents at this new facility, it wasn't in full swing yet. I ate there with my friend, and the food was wonderful. The staff was small, but very eager to make sure we enjoyed our meal and were taken care of.This was a minimal assistance facility, so the residents took care of their own laundry with machines furnished for them. If they needed assistance, they could get it. To live there, you really did need to be pretty self sufficient for the most part. The only problem I could see was that if you needed more assistance than they offered, you should be in a place with more assistance. A lady went there and fell, probably because in a nursing home, they would have prevented her from walking, which I have seen them do many times. After she fell, she passed away within a week. They said it was because her system could not take the shock or something. She had health problems.Overall, I thought it was a great place, that offered the elderly assistance, but was not the place for someone who needed more assistance than they provided.
