I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Hackensack Meridian Health Nursing & Rehab at Brick. She doesn't want to move (to another place). It's very good. She's in the nursing part. She doesn't particularly care for the food there; sometimes, they get a good meal, sometimes they don't. Other than that, she's satisfied with the place. They have activities, but there was a case of Covid, so they're on lockdown right now. The staff is nice. The facility is clean and it's fine. They all get together when things are OK or when they're out of quarantine. They get to do those activities, and they go outside in the courtyard. They had some entertainment, someone will come in and sing and they'll all sing along, and they'll play bingo. She's on Social Security and they pretty much take all that.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was sent here from the hospital and was told they take my insurance as full assignmement. I have been receiving bills for 5 months even after many calls. I was promised from S.A. that I would not be charged anything. I was being screamed at by the nurses every time I asked for timed pain medication. The PT staff allowed me to fall several times because they did not put a safety belt on. The CNA were difficult to get. They would come in eating and drinking in the afternoon shift. I asked to leave and go home and they refused my transportation. Which I had to pay for even though they would not let me go.I spoke to the Administration and Social worker to no avail. I asked to go to Church and no one would bring me. The rooms are a nice size and the food is very good. They made soups from scratch. Find another Nursing Home.

Upon arrival, we were not greeted by anyone. The nurse on duty gave zero eye contact and had a very disgruntled expression as she moved the patient in bed B out of the room. No one came to explain anything and then another nurse came in and put an alarm on the bed and told my Morger in law that this was to ensure you do not get out of the bed with out calling for assistance. While I understand the need for this, it was abrupt with no discussion or welcome. My poor mother in law felt like she was being admitted into a prison. She immediately got all ready eyed and upset. Only after we went to inquire did someone come in and calmly explain the process. Upon unpacking, I saw the place was filthy so I kept everything inside plastic bags. The bathroom floor looks like it was never disinfected. After we left her the first night a huge man came to her bedside to bring her to the bathroom. A man. No concideration for her comfort. There should be a female taking a women into the bathroom. Or at least give her time to adjust to the idea. The staff at night enjoys each other’s company with little consideration for the patients trying to sleep. When I called to speak with the social worker she seemed annoyed by my call and dumped my call. I pray we never need this type of facility again. But if so, I will never go here again. Shameful.

We were somewhat satisfied with this rehab until a new roommate was assigned to share the room. Roommate screams/yells all night long. Asked the Administrative Personnel to move roommate to no avail. Instead, They want my mom to move. This roommate should be assigned her own private room due to her issues. Mom is having stress/breathing stress issues so therefore has been given oxygen as well as she is suffering from sleep deprivation. HOW IS A PATIENT TO GET BETTER WITHOUT THE PROPER AMOUNT OF SLEEP. TOTAL LACK OF EMPATHY FROM REHAB ADMINISTRATION PERSONNEL.

My dad was at Meridian Brick for less than 24 hours. He was there solely to strengthen his weak legs after surgery. My father had a fall at this facility due to an employee having him use a walker instead of a wheel chair, prior to a physical therapy evaluation. There was no written report on his fall, even after I had the the on-duty NP check his surgical site. The lack of concern and empathy at this facility is disturbing. DO NOT LET ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT STAY AT MERIDIAN BRICK.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I previously resided at Meridian (Meridian Nursing And Rehabilitation At Brick). They're super A1 people. I like their staff and I like everything about it. They have very good meals and they give you a choice each day as to what you want for each meal. They also have a nice sunroom where you can sit and have tea or coffee, which gets you out of your room for a while. The staff was very caring. I had a wound vac in my body and they were wonderful in changing the bandages almost every day. They cared about you. They had some entertainment and they had people coming in to do singing, but my day was so busy that I never even attended those things.

My dad is already in Meridian Nursing. We chose it because of the location, and it’s clean and somewhat nice. We just felt comfortable there. In the middle of the facility, they have this nice open shaded area that my dad goes out to every now and then, and he likes it. The entrance is decent, so sometimes he’s downstairs, and he enjoys that too. I am glad that my dad is there, and he is comfortable. I think that they’re taking care of him really well. It’s homey and we’re glad that he’s in a nursing home and in a decent place.

PLEASE, Please do not put your loved-one in this place. My mom went here to rehab from a broken patella. Within less than ten days she developed a c dif infection and pneumonia. You are not allowed to be treated by your own doctor and the in-house "doctor" prescribed oral antibiotics despite the fact that she could not keep them down. Long story short, she spent a month in CCU and passed away last month. Despite using the Meridian name, they do not share any services with the hospital. My mom has to wait for prescriptions to come from Linden, despite the fact that the hospital has a pharmacy and is about 100 feet away. Anyone considering a nursing home for their loved-one should become fully informed on c diff infections and institutional pneumonia, which are pervasive in many such facilities.
