I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was at Winding Trails Post Acute for 2 weeks. They had occupational and physical therapy. There were some excellent nurses. There was a very young excellent nurse there who was working well overtime. The staff was all pretty nice. They were very helpful and very accommodating. But sometimes, I felt like they didn't communicate with each other as well as they should because I had to go to the person who was in charge sometimes to get things coordinated. The place was clean. Their food was good, and they didn't mind me eating with him at all.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

During Covid it has been extrmely hard to not be able to visit my mother. She reports staff making fun of her when she has boughts of confusion (she is aware of their covnersations). There are a few staff members who have been incredibly good to my mom, I want that noted. But sadly, there are people that work at Manor Care that have made my mom feel unsafe and with our inability to visit, we feel extremely paralized by what to do to help my mother.

Provider Response

Thanks for bringing your concerns about your mother's care and some of our staff to our attention, Susie. While we cannot discuss patient care in a public forum, could you please contact us on our Care Line by calling or emailing? We would like to hear more about your experience.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Witnessing my mother, Marie, come down with cancer, then moving to a nursing home, then becoming blind was not easy, especially in the midst of the restrictions around the COVID-19 pandemic. My partner and I had wanted to plan a wedding, with Marie present, before everything shut down. It seemed unlikely that it would be possible and now she was under hospice care. Patio visits began to be allowed. We started planning for a ceremony to take place outside, hoping for the weather and air conditions to be acceptable that day. Forest fires were raging in the mountains nearby. Then, just days before the scheduled patio visit, the administrators of HCR Manor Care Health Services informed us of a plan to have a wedding ceremony: as part of their Compassionate Care offerings inside the facility. We were able to be in the same room with Marie and the Assistant Director of Activities to help monitor the visit. Our officiate came in through a Zoom Link. Everything fell into place so beautifully that day, right down to the excellent care Marie had in getting dressed and ready for the wedding. The nurses and CNA's found special clothing for her and even braided and styled her hair special for the event. We were all so happy! It couldn't have been better! Thanks to everyone who was involved in helping us organize this event!

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

In August of 2018 my parents moved to Manor Care Boulder. It was one of the few facilities that was willing to accommodate my parents in a room together. My Mom and Dad would be celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary that December, and there was no way that we were going to separate them. Every staff member, nurses, social workers, CNAs, activity personnel, receptionists, maintenance staff, kitchen staff, cleaning and laundry personnel, etc. got to know my parents and did everything in their power to make my Mom and Dad comfortable and accommodate their needs. Unfortunately, my Dad passed away in August, 2019. Once again, all staff members who interact with my Mom have been so kind and helpful. The activities department helped us with a 75th wedding anniversary celebration for my parents that took place at Manor Care. In addition, they provided us with space to sit Shiva (mourning) after my Dad passed away. During this COVID19 crisis, the activities department has made every effort to coordinate FaceTime and Zoom calls with my Mom. These calls are Mom’s and my lifeline. Even with hearing aids, my Mom cannot hear well on the telephone. However, being able to see me and hear me on a speaker enables Mom and me to actually have a conversation. In addition, the activities department has been more than willing to coordinate calls between my Mom and other family members and friends. Even in this time of crisis, the activities department had continued to provide programs to keep the residents connected and feel loved. The social interaction between residents and personnel is as essential as the medical care provided. It is the extra attention and care provided by the activities department that has enabled my Mom to cope during this unprecedented time. It has enabled me to be more relaxed knowing that she is being well taken care of physically and emotionally.

I am a friend or relative of resident

This is THE WORST care facility ever. They do not deserve the one-star rating I gave them; minus 5 stars would be a more appropriate rating. They advertise as a rehab-equipped nursing facility, so I brought my father here for short-term rehab after a surgery. They did not have the previously-arranged private room ready for him and tried to put him in a room with an elderly nursing home patient (my dad is young and had requested a private room). The room they finally got him into had a non-working nurse call light (which was inoperable for over 24 hours), a non-working television (we had to bring him one). The night nurse did not check in with him while his call light was broken (even though she knew it was broken) so he did not get his pain meds for hours, until I arrived. When the call light did get fixed, we timed how long it took for the nurses to answer the call and then for them to bring the requested meds. From the time he pressed the call light, it took the nurse 20 minutes to come to the room, and then an additional 35 minutes to bring the requested medication. Furthermore, he was provided a broken wheelchair NO toilet riser was available upon request (I had to go borrow one from a senior center). They do NOT have the necessary equipment for a facility that is supposed to specialize in rehab. Some of nurses are lovely, caring, and capable (especially Lisa, the RN supervisor), but most of the workers here (nurses, some of the CNAs, doctors, and social services workers) are completely incompetent. The doctors are NOT available on the weekends. Most of the nurses are rude (esp Andrea the RN supervisor in the long-term care wing). Good luck trying to get discharged. We started requesting a discharge 36 hours in advance of even being considered. They are SUPER disorganized. I was not the only person with a complaint during my father's short stay; there were many people at the nurses station constantly with complaints and grievances. Phone calls and patients requests are ignored and Very, very unfortunate given that they are a "care" facility. Save yourself a huge headache and do not send your loved ones here. There are much better equipped care/rehab/nursing facilities in the Denver Metro area.

I visited this facility

We went to Manorcare Health Services for a visit, and it is a really nice facility. Everybody that I talked seemed to be quite happy. They have a lot of activities for their residents. We were not able to eat there, but they showed us the menu, and it looked good. With their rooms, they have two people in a room as well as a private room.

I have a father in Manor Care and in the alziemers area, We visited a lot and have always find the facility to be in exelent condition,If we have a question they always seem to know the answer or will look into it,He is getting the best care, The nurses are patient with the people and always seem to be busy on taking care of the people that are in there, We have seen a guy play the piano for them, , the nurses are exelent nurses and kudos to them all, They have heart and love for the people in this area.
