    I am/was a resident of this facility

When I referred to Woodruff Convalescent Center three years ago I was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. I thought it was a death sentence. I plunged into a deep depression over this news. I was able to over come this depression with the help of all the staff here. The activities department was instrumental in me recovering from my depression. There are some very special people staffing that department. The gave me puzzles to occupy my mind and I began to attend the daily activities. Overall they were a shoulder for me to cry on and get all my feelings out in the open and deal with them and occupy my mind to get my mind away from thinking about my cancer. Up until today they are always there for me to talk to and provide me an outlet for my mind to keep from thinking about the cancer. The nursing staff is excellent here from the LVN's, CNA's and treatment nurses. They are always here to lend a helping hand and provide the necessary care I need to battle my cancer. Pain control is my main concern. I am currently on hospice care and I receive the necessary pain relief I need. They are not only nurses but they are friends also which I can turn to in time of need. The administration team always provides the answers I need to questions I have whether it be insurance to transportation needs. Since Michael Morales the current administrator of the facility has taken over there have been some excellent changes here to the facility and program. He is always available to lend a helping hand and a keen ear. Since I have known him i would go as far as to call him a friend. To all reading this who make the decision to send patients to facilities like this. Woodruff Convalescent Center is a top notch place to send patients. I would highly reccommend this facility . They have not only helped me to deal with the fact that I have cancer but are helping me in the battle. My depression has lessened to agree to where it is manageable. My family is very happy with the quality of life that I am receiving here. They are glad at the decision that we made to come here. By the way the food is really good here too.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mother is here. Over the past year she kept calling 911 and all would break loose! Fire engines, para medics, etc. Finally, Adult protective services contacted my brother and I to ask why she didn't have 24/7 care? Well, she can't afford it, nor can we. With the help of Medicare (god bless them) we found this place. She can no longer walk, nor hear. Hey! I wouldn't want to end up in this place, but, that's my feeling, now that I'm mostly ok. Yes, people cry and scream occasionally. A nurse told me most of the residents rarely get any visitors. We visit our Mother daily along with other relatives. So, she's not crazy about, nor or we. But, what besides death is the alternative? I find the staff above average. We slip them money when we can. They always refuse so we force it on them. I have no complaints. Well, just one. No one ever returns a phone call. It would be a problem, but, as we're here almost daily, it's not that big a deal. Though, I do think they should fix that problem.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Mother was sent to Woodruff Convalescent Center from the hospital as she needed rehab. She was only in there for 10 days, and they had a great rehab program. It is so big and not as personal as the one she is in now. The food to me didn't look as good. The staff were OK. The room was adequate and clean. If you live close by, that would be convenient for the person, but I wouldn't want to be there.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mother has been in this nursing home for several years. The attention and care that she is receiving is outstanding! She attends daily activities and has a great relationship with the staff (some) who have been working there for a long time. Whenever I do have a concern or problem, they do whatever it takes to accommodate my Mother. I am really happy with the care!

    I am/was a resident of this facility

I had been in and out of Woodruff Convalescent Center for a couple of times. I had a room with two beds in it. The staff were helpful and they had great personalities, I had no complaints with them. There were a lot of seniors who were older than me but it did not bother me. Although, I was a little uncomfortable because there was a lot of crying. I was not so crazy with their food but I ate as much as I could because I had to. The portions of the food got smaller compared to the last time I was there. I was just there because there was no other place that would accept me. It would be better if they gave a little more attention to the senior citizens.

When I had my knee replacement surgery, I went to Woodruff Convalescent Center. I have no complaints with their staff, but I am just a little uncomfortable with the place. There are a lot of crying. There are a lot of senior citizens in the place. The food is not great at all. I am just here because there is nowhere else to accept me when I want to go somewhere. They need to give a little more attention to the senior citizens.

    I visited this facility

I think this facility does a good job. The workers are patience with the residents. The facilities are clean. The staff also plans a lot of activities for the residents to participate in. I have a regular group I go and speak to, and the most of them appear happy and taken care of. There are some that don't seem too be happy, but I think these have mental problems.I mainly spend a couple of Saturdays a month in the dining area. There is usually an activities coordinator there taking care of the residents. He or she wheels them in on their wheelchairs and provides whatever they might need, such as something to eat or drink. He also calms down some of the ones that may be having a bad day. I always feel like the staff is open to any questions or needs from me or my ministry staff. I really enjoy this center.

    I visited this facility

I toured this facility. They have the Eden Concept in their facility which is the cultural climate of plants, animals and children. They have animals that live in the facility, nice plants that are nurtured by resident's/staff and activities that bring children into the facility. They also have wanderguard system in place for those patients who may try to wander out the door. The patients who are identified as a wandering risk - have a bracelet put on and when they go near the door, the alarm goes off. The down side is that the facility is on a busy street and does present a safety risk if the wander guard fails. If my loved one started to wander, I would place them in a secured-locked facility.
