Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community is a life care center. You go in with independent living and then you can go to assisted living and then to nursing care. So once you're there, you don't have to move again and we like that about it and the five-star rating they have. We are also Episcopalian so many of our priests are on the board. Our bishop is on the board so I know they've never tossed anybody out when they run out of money, whereas other places have these long contracts. You're there for the rest of your life and they will take care of you. The apartment has a washer and dryer and a complete kitchen. Before you move in, you can have it painted with the colors that you like. They spend eight weeks personalizing it for you in terms of the colors, the flooring, the countertops, and whatnot. All the appliances come as part of the furnishings. Everybody there seems to be very satisfied. The staff was wonderful, very good, and very helpful. There's a flexible meal plan. You can have the main meal of the day or you can have six meals a week if you want to eat out and spill or you can have five meals. If you decide to go out of town for a week, you can suspend the meals. The food is excellent. They have guestrooms, so you can stay overnight for two or three nights or however long you want to during the week. We've eaten the meals there and enjoyed the amenities. During the weekends, they reserve both guest rooms for the relatives of residents.

Deerfield was excellent. We saw two apartments, and they seemed very comfortable. The layout was fine and very livable. The staff was courteous and helpful. We saw the exercise room, the pool, and the lobby area. We stayed overnight there in the guest room, and we had one evening meal there, and it was good. The grounds were nicely wooded and taken care of.

Deerfield Episcopal was nice and clean. The room had a nice layout. However, they had a waiting list of two to five years, so obviously it's very popular. The staff seemed fine and friendly. I had dinner, and the food was good. They had good facilities, but it was more expensive. You pay for what you get. You can get a cottage but you pay more.

Deerfield's skilled nursing policy for soiled garments is to place them in plastic bags which are left in residents rooms until laundry day.......outraged

Deerfield was a great place, and I like everything about it. The food is really prepared nicely and presented well. The grounds were beautiful, and it’s in a pretty area with a lot of things around it. If somebody was able to get out with family, there’s a lot of things close by that looked like they were interesting or just pretty to see. There was nothing about it that I didn’t think was nice, but it’s very expensive, and it was more expensive than we really wanted to pay. I could understand why it was expensive as it was very nice.

I know some people who are at Deerfield. It was fine. It looked fine and the people that were there all said it was lovely and it seemed to be lovely if you like that sort of thing. My impression though was that it was too big. The rooms looked very nice and fine, no problems. Everything was lovely. They have apartments and houses. They were all large, spacious and nice. They have lots of building. Deerfield was just too big. The dining room was lovely but the food was boring. If I have to eat there everyday for the rest of my life, I would just give up. There was just old people food. However, activities were great. They have loads and loads of activities. They have buses to take you wherever you want to go. All of that was great.

The staff at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement is very helpful. They made us feel welcome. We toured the rooms and the apartments. They seemed fine. They could be bigger. We ate at the dining room. The food was very good. I like the location. They have a whole community there. The town is also very interesting. The pricing was good and they also had adequate medical. The overall setting -- the whole area where it's set up and the community is very attractive.

We had not yet moved my mom to Deerfield, but she's on the waiting list at the moment and we don't know how long it's going to be. Deerfield was very nice, and they had two-room apartments instead of individual rooms. They had different sizes, ranging from one that was 380 square feet to one that was about 780 square feet, and they were nice. She was impressed with the facility. We liked the kindness and consideration of the people that we talked to there.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I have friends over at Deerfield Retirement Community. It is a lovely place. It is probably the most popular in Asheville. There are a wide variety of people who retired there. They have the activities that are comparable to other facilities. Food is wonderful. Everything is fine.

Deerfield NC was an excellent coontinuing care facility at every level. The skilled care was the number one reason we went there and had ourselves waitlisted. They had a wellness center with exercise and swimming pool, a croquet course, and a lot of recreational opportunities. The dining facilities were wonderful. The health care was just excellent.

Staff were amazingly patient, well trained, helpful, genuinely caring and so supportive. Facilities were spotless and full of opportunities for socializing--also very attractive and well maintained.
