I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Rooms were bland and depressing. My dad was here for rehab from a stroke and significantly regressed in his therapy while he was here. As soon as we moved him to a different clinic, he improved. Would not recommend this place at all.

Husband went from ICU to here - waited 8 hrs. before someone came to the room. She didn't know his name or why he was there - even though he was critical care. Bed was too short and no rails -asked to have other bed made as it was longer. Sent in someone who threw the mattress around and wouldn't reply to me even though we tried to be pleasant to him. Bathroom had urine stains and room reeked of urine. Asked to have it clean so he wouldn't get infection and they sent in a young kid with washcloth - no cleaning supplies who proceeded to wipe down the mattress, phone & clicker without rinsing the rag, even though the sink was behind him. I brought in cleaning supplies & cleaned it myself. Called Dr. to release him. First meal was ice cream, mashed potatoes, meatloaf in gravy - had just had 8 hr. open heart surgery! I cooked meals & brought them in. Awful.

I was a patient at Manor Care for 2 months and really enjoyed the stay. The staff from nurasng to dietary were excellent and went out of their way to make you comfortable and meet all your requests. When you used the "call light" they responded immediiately, no matter how many times they called. The food was very good and if you didn't like something they would bring you a substitute plate immediately. BUT mainly they helped me reach my goals regarding my health. I came there via ambulance and unresponsive and left alert and walking. I felt that I had a whole new group of friends and really hated to leave.

My mother had a severe stroke late 2016. She was at manor care for several months. The therapy was excellent!!!!! My mother did recover quite well from this severe stroke with the help of these dedicated people. She received speech, occupational and physical therapy. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that some of the cna's were not the best at listening to my mother. However the majority of them were lovely people. The caseworkers also could not have been more helpful. I recommend Manorcare - Arlington Heights Illinois for anyone to help in one's recovery.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a resident for 3 weeks after my quadruple bypass surgery and could not have been happier with my stay. The physical therapy & occupational therapy staff were very attentive to my condition. The food was good as can be expected as institutional food. My cardiac diet kept me away from most of the better food but my wife always enjoyed her meals she had with me. I had weekly meetings with treatment planners and was involved in all aspects of the process. I would return there in a flash.

ManorCare at Arlington Heights looks very nice and kept clean. The rooms were average; some people have their own furniture and some people don’t. They have a nice dining room centrally located. The staff seems pretty average, but they helpful in helping people find their rooms and getting residents where they need to go for physical therapy or the dining room. Their dining area is a nice size, has low lighting rather than bright, and didn’t have windows because it’s in the center of the building, but it's charming. The hallways are clean, and the dining room seems clean. I wouldn’t want to be in the rehab wing. The staff on the rehab care is kind of busy, but the staff on the full-time care seems more involved. I think they need to improve on having the people more involved in activities.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Most of the CNA's, Nurses (with exception of Ivy) and therapists were great. The social worker (phone ext# 150) NEVER returned phone calls. The other administration people were VERY snotty and had "not my job attitude". They were supposed to change my dressings on my toe twice a day. One day, they didn't change the dressing at all. Twice they changed the dressing once a day. They over ordered medication also. I take insulin. I was there for7 days. My dose would have lasted 8-9 days. When I got discharged I was given 2 pens of insulin both were both half filled. I take Advair twice a day. I disc is good for a one month supply. They sent me home with 3 disc Advair, one had 54 doses left, one had 58 doses left. The majority of the food was crappy. When you would order a can of soda, you would always have to wait at least 20 minutes for a few ice cubes to appear. Bia (a CNA) was exceptional with her care. I wouldn't recommend this place do the administration bosses attitudes.

My mother was at Manorcare. While she was there, it was all good. The staff -- for the most part -- was good. However, there seemed to be a lot of confusion on releasing my mother, like with paperwork and what needed to get done, so that was a little bit unorganized. But other than that, it went quite well.

The staff is very nice & professional but communication is terrible. I don't know if it is the fault of the social work discharge planning staff or who is responsible. There should be regular communication so that a patient who is there for an undetermined amount of time knows how they are progressing and when they might get out. It seems like they communicate great with family when you are visiting and want to put your relative there, but once there they forget about communicating with the family.

Absolutely not enough staff resulting in a very unsafe environment for those who are frail and/or require extra attention. Staff are well meaning but overwhelmed. Meetings with administrators yield NO results. Avoid this place unless you can be present 24/7 to ensure proper care for your loved one.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father came to ManorCare AH after a hospital stay. My dad needed to regain his strength through physical and occupational therapy so that he could go back home. He had lived at home and was able to drive, cook, clean, do laundry, go to Senior Center every day, etc. He entered ManorCare weighing 180 pounds. He should have been there a month or two, max. Due to poor care, he was not discharged on time and ended up back in the hospital. He weighed 180 when he arrived and weighed in at 150 when he left. For 3 months, he had an undiagnosed infection (abscess) in his spine (discitis) which is incredibly painful. His RN said she was going to order a psych evaluation because she thought the pain was actually anxiety. Thank God for that misdiagnosis because it is what convinced me that my gut was right about this place. His diet was wrong (cardiac vs. diabetic) despite numerous meetings with Dietitians, Head of Catering, Administrators, Nurses, etc. They do not have anywhere near enough CNAs to help with toilet assistance or anything else. My dad hurt his hand because no one could help him get off the commode. His hand should have been stitched but instead was bandaged which resulted in necrosis. My dad had to use this bedside tray table as a "walker" to get to the bathroom. Press the call button, a CNA come in and turn the light off and indicates they or a nurse will be right back. They never return because they are so overworked. Obviously, if this had all happened at once at the start of my dad's stay, I would have run for the hills. My dad had just started to use a cane when he arrived, degraded to a walker and now is in a wheel chair. I wish someone had written an honest review of this place so I could have taken my dad elsewhere. I also wish I had known about Midwest Palliative Care sooner. I have a new Dr. for my dad. 3 days at the hospital on IV antibiotics, the abscess drained, proper care and my dad has gone from asking for hospice care to looking forward to starting physical therapy and gaining some weight at another facility so that he can go home and LIVE again!

The facility is very decent. Amenities are great and well-maintained. Everywhere is neat and clean. It makes you feel comfortable, it makes you feel at home. The staff is well-trained and polite. They are hardworking and dedicated to their jobs. They make sure that the patients and their families are happy and contented to the service they provide. Customer-service really matters. What is business without customers. In order to give the best care to the patients, they also need to have enough budget and continue to take good care of their employees. Overall, I can see that this facility made a long way and is very successful. It's been existing for a long time, lots of experiences and is tested through times. They become a part of the family for a lot of people. They are known for their quality service, fair pricing and good name. A name that you can trust and depend. They are confident in all that they do. They provide proper training to their people, good service to the clients and they give you satisfaction. They are amazing people. They take good care of their patients. Happiness and satisfaction of their patients are their goals. The building, itself is well-designed and spacious. Parking areas are big and huge. Great interior design and beautifully decorated. It's like a home away from home.

I visited this facility

This facility provides both short term rehab and long term care. It could be described as a "typical" suburban Manorcare facility, as it provides a fairly typical product for this corporate chain. It is situated not far from the hospital on a fairly busy street in a safe area. There is limited available outdoor space though it is possible to go for a walk fairly easily into the adjacent residential neighborhood where there are well maintained sidewalks. The common areas are clean and nicely decorated, though since this is a larger building the common sitting areas can often be "full" so that family visiting is most often done in the resident's room. The rooms are of average size and the furnishings and aesthetics are generally well maintained. The food is not exciting but is palatable and not bad. Staffing is adequate and provides professional, kind and appropriate care, though at times there is waiting for assistance and it might seem like not enough staff to meet all resident needs, at least not all at once.

My aunt passed away recently in this facility. She was first on the bottom floor. Small room, not enough light, poorly staffed, beds have no rails so she feel many times. They put a pad on the floor. She was finally moved up to second floor. The room was bigger and had a window. Again, no rails on the bed so bed was almost on the floor. We were there for two hours before someone checked on her. She smelled and needed a bath. The facility was dirty, smelled and understaffed. One of the worst I have been to for care of seniors.
