Reviews of Good Samaritan Society - Alliance
Skunkmelon November 20, 2012
I am a friend or relative of a resident
For the most part, staff were kind and considerate, although strung too thin. I think staff must keep themselves somewhat distant from the residents, because becoming attached can be depressing, especially when residents die. However, I think that some staff didn't have the empathy or compassion you need in order to give care to elderly residents. There were a lot of great activities at the home: bingo, exercise, story time, singing, guest singers/speakers, clergy brought in, etc... I wished there were more variety, though, as my mother didn't care for many of the activities. She was a sports nut and would have been more involved, I think, had the nursing home had sports groups, sports nights, or something else related to those interests. My mother did enjoy her room and had a nice view of the courtyard. We bought her a bird feeder and seed, and staff were nice enough to refill the feeder twice a day. (It was a popular spot for the local birds.) Outside, the nursing home also had a wheelchair accessible swing and my mom enjoyed being outside on a warm summer's day, swinging with me and her grandsons.
