My mother moved into Mesa Springs Healthcare Center. It's a nursing home. It seems like they're shorthanded just like any place these days. But the people that are there, I do like. The nurses and the aides are very helpful. I wish her room was a little bit bigger, but it's adequate. She has a roommate, and so when you get two wheelchairs in there, and two trays, and then her roommate has a gigantic recliner, there's no room for anything else. My mother couldn't have a recliner too. If they were normal-sized recliners, there could be two I think. It's just a little crowded with two people. She does PT and OT five days a week. I know it's good for her. I don't know that it's helping her get stronger, but I think it's helping her maintain. She eats the meals, so I'd say they're okay. It's older, I think. And her closet doors are beaten up and her night's stand is beaten up. So, they can improve the way things look. They have a courtyard. They have an activities room, that's where they have the PT.

My mother was in Mesa Springs facility for rehab after falling and breaking her hip. We were really worried about her being in a facility without my sister or I being there. My mother is 91years old and looks at all things as an obstacle to overcome. She had a wonderful experience. She meet so many wonderful and caring people. The food was great. The room was spacious. They did her therapy in her room because of Covid. They called to let me know what was going on with her during this time. My mother said it was as an experience of a life time. I would agree.

My dad moved into Mesa Springs Retirement Village in May. It's very clean. The staff is exceptionally nice, and they're very willing to work with dad in whatever care he needs. They have been very open and honest with the financial side, which helped us through the insurance side. Because he hadn't had the second COVID vaccine yet, they had him in quarantine for two weeks; he just came out of quarantine. He'll start his activities sometime next week. He likes bingo and dominoes, and they've got it all set up for him. Dad has actually said that he has enjoyed the food too. They give him a monthly calendar that has all the activities in it. They also give him a little piece of paper that has the menu for the month, so he already knows what he's going to have. He really likes that because it helps him out a lot. I think it's a good value for the amount of money that's being paid there and it's a beautiful facility.

My mom is at Mesa Springs in Abilene. I really can't say a whole lot about them, just my observations, because she just moved in yesterday. They seemed to be accommodating, and they gave us all the information we requested. Her room, compared to the other ones we visited, was very spacious. It's sort of a cottage so she has more independence, and that's very good. She can pretty much take care of herself, but everybody checks on her once in a while. They have a lot of activities on their calendar. They take the residents to town to take care of their needs (like doctor's appointments). The place is located in the outskirts of town, so it's a very quiet neighborhood. It's not on the main road, so it's very quiet. It's close enough to town where they can take care of everybody's needs, too. They have a community center and a beauty shop on the premises.

I would never choose Mesa Springs for my loved one again. When we wanted to take my mother in law out of the facility, they tried to stop us. We almost had to get an attorney. Their care of her was extremely low.

I think my dad had very good care at Mesa Springs Healthcare Center. The social worker had called and informed me that they've had 3 COVID cases with either a staff or a resident. They would call and let us know when things like that happened, like when there was a fire close to the community, I received a phone call within a couple hours. The nurses were really good, but right now we're not allowed inside the community. We would do window visits in my dad's room and his room was clean, he enjoyed his food and he had a TV, a phone and a chair. Physical therapy had helped him get in and out of his chair and walk. I have been in the lobby, it's very nice and clean. We had the screening questions and temperature taken. Dad was there for several weeks. He enjoyed the food there, and breakfast was his favorite. We just had a really good experience. His insurance paid most of the cost.
