I visited this facility

They were very informative at Brookdale Winter Haven. The lady that typically does the tour wasn't available, so the director gave us a tour. They were helpful in letting us know about how to apply for the VA benefits for my mom. We also liked that there were two separate areas, like one for the assisted living and one for the memory care, which was nice. We were able to look at a room and that was good. While we were there, the staff were very interactive with the people, so that was another plus for us. It just seemed to be very well organized. And then we also know of other people that are in that facility, and they seemed to be happy with that location as well. The food is not a criterion for us because my mom's taste changes so often, but I'm sure that they will make sure that she eats. So that's not a deciding factor. It was more the atmosphere that we were looking at. Like the cleanliness in that when you walked in there there was no old people smell, that type of thing. As far as the layout of everything, you can't get lost. And then they have everything onsite. If my mom needs podiatry service, haircutting, and nail cutting, we would not have to take her out of the facility to go get these things, and that was another big plus for us. The place was very clean too.

Brookdale Winter Haven was nice. We talked to some cleaning staff who happened to be there, and they were nice, too. Everybody we talked to was nice there. The whole place was just very small and there wasn't a whole lot of amenities. They had some, but it was a very small place. I think the lady said they only had like 47 people there.

Brookdale Winter Haven was a very nice facility and I liked it. It's on the expensive side, so I can't afford to put my husband in there. The person who gave me the tour was a very nice lady. The apartments were good, they were bright and cheery, and they all had windows. I would have considered this place if not for the price. Their facilities looked good.

Brookdale Winter Haven was a nice place. It was clean and nicely laid out. The people we talked with were nice. It seemed to have pretty much what we were looking for. We did go through the assisted living quickly, but we mainly focused on memory care. We looked at a private room. They have a larger private room and a smaller one, and we looked at the smaller one. It was nice and it had its own bath. They had an activity room, a library, and a nice courtyard. This is in the memory care unit, and there were a few people out there. They had a good activities list. They had bingo. It's a place I wouldn't mind putting my mother.

We toured Brookdale Winter Haven for my father-in-law. The staff was very nice. The facility was clean and small, and I would feel more comfortable that he would be well attended to. They told me that they had activities all day long for both assisted living and memory care. Even if you are in memory care, they'll let you go into the assisted living side for their activities. The rooms were nice and clean. It looked like everything was taken care of.

Brookdale Winter Haven seems a nice place that provides everything my mother would need, but it was a little overpriced for what she could afford. The staff was very nice, personable, informative, showed us all around, and gave us options. Everybody seemed very nice. The facility was clean, which is very important. The rooms were very suitable for one person or even for a couple. They had a bigger apartment, a little walk-in sitting area, and a bedroom, which was cute. There is no oven.

Brookdale Winter Haven was beautiful. It had wide, wide hallways. It was bright, cheerful, clean, and immaculate. It's a little bit pricey. We saw the assisted living. You don't change rooms unless you have to go to memory care. The experience was very good. The person that toured us was very, very cordial, very nice, and upbeat. She enjoyed her job. She matched the interior of the building, which is very cheerful and very upbeat. The colors are bright and cheerful, they're off-white. The rooms are larger too, but not much closet space. They have to work around that; but I guess if you're not out, you don't really need much too. The dining area had a lot of windows, and it was bright and cheery. There's no swimming pool, which is fine for me. There's a small exercise room though.

My mom is at Brookdale Winter Haven and the staff has been very good and very helpful, and as far as I know, the food is fine. I like the price the least, but the cleanliness is good. They have bingo and the usual activities. They have a layout that's easy to access. There's no stairs, so it's just all on one floor. The tables in the dining room seemed in position nicely so they could visit too.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We lived in Brookdale Winter Haven before for about a year. It's a single-story, rectangular-shaped, with an opening in the center. The room was medium sized and definitely clean. The dining area had assigned seatings and timed eating. The food was pretty common, but the staff was pretty good. They had bingo, trips to Walmart, and that's pretty much it.

Brookdale Winter Haven was outstanding and very clean. The people were nice and attentive. It's a beautiful place. The people's attitude is outstanding. They had a little library and a lot of activities. The place was very well set up. There's also a chef. The room was very nice, like a little hotel room, except not quite as big. It was decorated tastefully and looked like people were able to bring their own stuff, decorate their doors, and put their own touches on things. The grounds were nice.

Brookdale Winter Haven was nice. The person who talked to us was super nice. We were looking for a one-bedroom, but it had such a tiny living room that looked more like a foyer. That was the only thing I did not like about that place. The staff was really nice. They had an activity room and a library, and the dining room was nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was a past resident of Brookdale Winter Haven. It was very clean and updated. It was secure, but there were still spaces where he could go outdoors to do some gardening and bird watching. The staff was just outstanding in all aspects. Melissa, the overall caregiver in that unit, the nurses, and the doctors were good. I have nothing but positive comments about my experience with Brookdale. The food was good. I ate the same meals that all the other residents ate and it was very good. The meals that I saw my dad eat were all excellent. They had an activity planner that helped make sure that his day had lots of activities, and they also took him on day trips to go out into the community. Their facility also offered bus service once a week to the local area at no charge, so he could go to his doctors. It was highly recommended by all of my parents' friends as well and their families. They played Bingo and they would start their day with some movement to whatever level that they could. They had a communications person so that my brothers and sisters that live in California could Skype and talk to my dad. It's a wonderful facility. It's what they call an age in place facility. They would give me a report once a month and he was actually gaining weight at that facility. That's the testament to how good the care he got was and how good the food was. Their outdoor area had a raised planting area and my dad loved gardening there. Even though his memory was almost 100% gone, they would still get him up. He wore a toupee and somebody in their staff helped him with that. They even had a beauty parlor there.

Brookdale Winter Haven was a very nice and smaller community. I saw floor plans, not apartments, but from the looks of everything, it was very nice and had a nice setup. The higher the level of care, the higher the cost.

Brookdale Winter Haven was an older building and was kind of drab. I didn’t care for it very much and they had tubs there which, for seniors, are sometimes a little difficult to navigate but the staff was very nice and very accommodating.

Brookdale Winter Haven is an excellent facility, especially if you’re interested in memory care. They really work with their residents and keep them busy all day long. They were all very caring, very friendly, and very helpful. For us, it was just too far away from our home to regularly visit my mother-in-law.

Brookdale Winter Haven seemed to be very well organized, and had structured events going on for the patients. It was very clean, and it looked very nice. The staff seemed cordial and professional. The rooms were nice. They had screened-in porch. They had full bath with shower. They were doing something, but I did not remember what, in one of the main areas. They were doing something as a group.

I set up my folk in Brookdale Winter Haven already. It is very nice. I like the way it is set up a lot. They have been there for about a month. You will get high level of care. I like it. They are very caring there. They watch over them. Everybody seems happy. I talked to the residents. The people that work there, they have been there for more than ten years. They have an outdoor area that it is secure. I dined there one day, and the food is good.

I go to Brookdale Winter Haven (Formerly Sterling House of Winter Haven) every week, and I have friends there. The staff know their members by name, and they're communicative. The rooms have a bathroom, bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen. It's small, but it's OK. They take them to doctor's appointments every Tuesday. On Thursdays, they take them out to eat. They have ice cream socials where they have a little ice cream parlor. Last time I was there, there was a gentleman singing all the old favorites, having the ladies get up and sing with him. You could tell that they really love that entertainment. They have a little square inside, and they go for a little walk like a walking club.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My father was in Brookdale up in Connecticut, and Brookdale Winter Haven (Formerly Clare Bridge of Winter Haven) was very similar to what he was used to. They have daily activities -- i.e., arts, music, they do go out -- but not as much as in the other unit. It was a very positive transition. There were a few bumps along the way, but he wasn't expecting to go into an Alzheimer's unit, so that was a little bit of a shock for him. He is very frail, and they didn't feel he could live in the assisted living part, and he needed more attention. It's very clean, but it's a difficult situation. It's probably not as clean as the other regular assisted living facilities, which could be expected considering the clientele that's there, but they do a good job.

What I like most about Sterling House of Winter Haven was that it was homey and small enough that we felt my father would actually get to know people there. It was very organized and well kept. It is fairly near my father's house. It is across the street from the grocery store he used to shopping to. The facilities, like the dining area and the waiting area, all seemed very nice, clean, bright and sunny, so it was very uplifting. It also had, on the grounds, Clare Bridge, which is memory care unit, so my dad could transfer from one facility to the other because they were on the same ground.

I just wasn't happy with Sterling House. When you walk in you're not sure where you need to go, who to talk to. Everybody was kind of roaming around. That just turned me off. I'm weary of safety for my mom. I just didn't like the surrounding town.

I wanted my wife to go to Clare Bridge, but unfortunately there was no availability at that time. I've been there several times because my daughter-in-law's mother was there and that was an excellent place. The rooms were very nice. It’s a one story building set in a green area with trees, very nice. It looked very homey. The staff seemed to really know what they were doing and everybody in there seemed happy and it was in a very nice condition. It also has a great reputation.

Sterling House was a very nice facility. I found the director very accommodating and very helpful. I have really no complaints with them. The place was very clean. It was moderately priced and not out of the line. They have nice things to offer the residents. It was on my consideration list that my in-laws are going to go.

My parents are very happy and content at Sterling House. As long as they're happy, I'm happy. The food is wonderful. Mom and Dad haven't been there for that long so I haven't heard any complaints. Everything's neat and tidy. The only thing I'm probably looking to see is if my father gives up his driver's license, the harbor transportation issue will be worked out.

Every member that I had to deal with was very caring. I felt that my friend had a great place to stay. They treated myself, the guests, as well as everyone I encountered them having to deal with with the upmost respect. They held activities in the courtyard for them to do. Bingo night was the most popular.

Before I placed my loved one in this facility I was told that they were not providing the care they say they provide. I was actually stopped by a family as they were walking out of the facility and was told "they do not do what they say they do". I was hoping none of it was true because it looked like a very nice place for my loved one. I hate to say it, but they were right. My loved one was left to be in the room all day and their staff does not seem to have the training needed to deal with Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. Residents sit in the dining room staring at their food and staff does not offer help. I removed my loved one from this facility and will not recommend it to anyone else. All these places on paper sound great, but in fact they hope the families dont notice and since our loved ones cant tell us what is going on, how do we know what care they are receiving while we are not there. I should have listened. I also heard it from their own employees, but I thought maybe they had some personal problem with management and refused to believe it. If you can find another facility in the area, dont put your loved one here.

Friend or relative of resident

Clare Bridge assisted living was a place both my grandparents stayed for the last part of there lives. It seemed they were always well cared for by the staff and did not seem at all miserable in there surroundings. Having even eaten the food at this assistant care facility and can even vouch for the quality and thought that goes into all of there residents. All together the care here at Clare Bridge seemed to be very good and genuine. This is certainly a place that I would feel safe leaving my parents or grandparents at, which I feel nowadays is a very rare thing to say about assisted living facilities.
