I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My niece has moved into Harbor House Memory Care. She had been there previously and that's where she ended up going. It's a caring, professional facility. The staff has a personal relationship with the residents. If any issues arise, I have full confidence that they will always be professionally rectified. They have arts and crafts. They don't have a chapel or a library. They probably have some books available, but they don't have a separate room for those.

I visited this facility

Harbor House Memory Care was very neat and pleasant. There were no strange odors or anything. The staff was wonderful, professional, pleasant, covered everything that came to our mind, and was very thorough. The dining area looked alright. The residents were watching television and they looked fine.

I visited this facility

Harbor House Memory Care is smaller, so I think that's nice. The director was very helpful. The rooms we saw were small, but they're very clean and they looked like they've been painted recently. They look pretty good. They have common spaces. It's three separate buildings, and each building has its own environment. The common space looked okay, there were people there watching TV and there was a lady that was kind of a communicator. She was talking with people and drawing them out so they would interact. They have a very good staff-to-patient ratio. As far as anything they can improve, it looks older so perhaps sprucing up a little bit so that it looks new.

My husband has moved into Harbor House Memory Care. It was our choice to go there because they deal only with memory care. Their attention is only on that, and that was one of the big things why we went there. It's a very, very nice. It's a very clean facility. The staff have been very, very nice to us. They're very caring. My husband's room is very nice and very clean. One thing that I do like about there is they do not have a shower in their bathroom that they could go in on their own type of thing. It's very controlled for that part. My son and I felt very confident with that. I don't know much about the food, but the dining area is very nice and very clean. It's small because there's only nine people in there right now. They have three different houses there, and he is in number 1. It accommodates 14 or 15. It is kind of almost one on one situation, which is really nice. They have activities every day. I was there yesterday, and they were doing activities. They play games and all that kind of stuff. It's not high class like some of them we went to. This is more of an average person's place.

Poorly maintained, staff does not communicate well between each other, the activities are not done as you are lead to believe and the director has zero integrity. My loved one couldn’t have had a worse experience. Just awful. This place should be shut down. Terribly run. Stay away!

My mom is now at The Harbor House. The care they're offering is good if not better than some of the others. Also, their fee structure was more conducive to us. The staff members are caring and attentive. If there is anything wrong, they'll call me. They have 14 patients per building, and I have never seen less than a nurse and three caregivers. The ratio is great.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was in a big, fancy, expensive nursing home where she was neglected, fell down in the bathroom with no one helping her, and had half of her stuff taken by either the residents or the staff - we still aren't sure. Caring.com put Harbor House in touch with me and from the moment I spoke with Savannah, the executive director, I knew this place was special. Savannah actually did the assessment at the big, fancy, expensive nursing home and confirmed what I already suspected. We moved her out of there and Savannah actually drove out there and helped me move her stuff and my mom (I was visiting mom out of town). Over the next few days, I got a very up-close look at Harbor House and how the staff interacts with their residents. I popped in at unexpected times and walked through the adjacent buildings. I never saw a deviation from the excellence of care I saw the first time - not even once. I never saw residents mistreated or spoken to condescendingly, like I did at the other place. The caregivers are amazing women. Sam, Becky, Brittany, are really hands on nurses. Sam spent tons of time with me, discussing my mother's medications. The doctors call you and I spoke with Dr. Ernst about my mom for an hour! I couldn't even get the doctor at the big, fancy place to return my call! The place is small and it's warm and cozy - like a previous commenter said, it's not like an institution at all. It's like a home. My mom has an adorable sunny, private room with her own bathroom. She's always got someone there to help her. All I can say about this place except is that it's exceptional. I have learned that big, fancy nursing homes are usually understaffed and can't manage the needs of their patients. This place CARES for their patients. I don't need crystal chandeliers and big lobbies. I need individualized care with people who treat the elderly like the human beings they are. Harbor House does this. The owner of this facility needs to be very proud of his staff and his philosophies. I hope they never change. Amazing place.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband is at Harbor House. It is a smaller unit. There are little cottages, and each one has 16 people in it, so it becomes a more personal experience than a hospital setting. The staff and the services are not as good as those in the other facility, but for the stage that my husband is in right now, they are efficient. The place is very clean. The food is very good.

I had my dad at Harbor House Memory Care. The facility is very nice, and the staff is friendly. They seemed to be very caring, and I really like them. With their security, you have to punch in a code to get in.

My wife is in Harbor House. We choose it because of the atmosphere, and the price is reasonable. The staff is very good. The food is just OK. They have lock-up doors, and the rooms are fine.

Harbor House is great. They are so good. The staff, especially the head of it, was in very good communication with me. They came out here to bring me the paperwork, so I didn't have to go all the way in there. They nurses are great, my husband likes the food, just everything; they are so helpful with everything. I would recommend it very, very highly for anybody that needs memory care for a loved one. The room is perfect for him. They are very good in getting him involved in the activities. The staff that they have for getting him haircuts, they take care of that, and they take care of the doctors, his medication, his foot care, eye care, absolutely everything; they have everything there. I told them to just go ahead with everything he needs and then bill me, and they are wonderful. I would love to keep him there forever if that was possible, but it is not. He is very comfortable and very happy there. They are very, very nice. All the staff actually act like they enjoy working there and with the people.
