I visited this facility

I liked the decor of Arden Courts of South Holland. I liked how bright and inviting it felt. I liked the different areas where they had recreation for the seniors. The rooms were not as large, but they were nice because they had double rooms and then they had rooms that were studios. So, they gave you the option to work with the individual cost of what a person could afford. So, I liked that and I also like their level of security. They have tight security. Every door is monitored and you have to be buzzed in for access, and if the door is open, it'll trigger some type of alarm to allow for the staff to know that someone is entering or exiting. They had walking pathways for the seniors to exercise. I don't have any experience with someone that they care for, but while being there during the tour, I saw residents that were in different stages of memory care, and I could see that they were very attentive to the individual needs of those. They were very pleasant and very informative.

My dad will be moving into Arden Courts of South Holland. They were open and flexible. When we got inside, the place was clean. The people were regular, friendly people. They didn't necessarily act like they needed to sell a unit for us. The tour was really comprehensive and very natural. As we're going through saying hi to people, somebody was having a moment or was in trouble, and they were able to easily deal with it. It showed me that they're trained on how to deal with people with Alzheimer's. I feel good about this choice. I feel good about the layout of the place and the food. I feel good about the workers. I think that my father will thrive here in his last years. The room my dad will be in has enough room for a person to move around comfortably. It has a bed, a bureau, a window, and spaces that he can control. He can walk right into the bathroom. There is a closet there that is reasonably sized. It is easy to clean. They have menus every day. The cook seems pretty nice and dedicated to planning the meals. I was able to see that early in the morning they had a large attendance of people doing crafts. They've got karaoke, people coming in, and games.

Arden Courts of South Holland is a memory care facility. It was very nice and very well kept. I liked it. They had nice staff and they were on a really good level of care when it comes to memory care. My mother stayed there for a month, but she had a setback where we had to admit her to a skilled care facility. Arden Courts was a nice place, but mom needed more skilled care than I was able to admit. They didn't have enough staff to really accommodate her. When I would get there, she would dress herself, and pretty much do things by herself. The staff was accommodating, but when it came to nursing care, they didn't acknowledge the fact that she was declining in her health. In terms of her congestive heart failure, they overlooked it. I went out of town for one week and when I came back and saw her, she declined so badly and she was really out of it, so I had to take her to the hospital. Everyone was very polite and very nice, but they have to let the family know when something is happening to the patient. They have to acknowledge the fact that some patients are not behaving in some kind of way and they have to know that this is not regular for that patient. It's a very clean, very well-maintained, and very nice facility, but overall I gave them a 4 because of the incident that happened with my mother after I went on vacation. The CNAs and the nurses were very nice, polite, and cared for the patients, but they did not pay attention to my mother's overall health. She was in their memory care facility and they overlooked it. The food looked pretty good. I saw the activities department, and they were very active with the residents. They had a worker there that attends to the residents' needs for activities. I would recommend patients or families to go to that facility. As far as community living, it was nice. It was worth the money.

My aunt is now at Arden Courts of South Holland. It feels very homey. It's a small facility where they get excellent care. Everybody knows everybody's name. They have different houses in the facility. Each house can have up to 15 patients, and each house has its own common room, dining room, and kitchen, so it makes her feel more like she's at home, rather than in a facility. The staff has been excellent. I have no problem with them. Any time anything goes on with her, no matter how small, I am given a phone call for an update on how she's doing and what's going on. They care there, and they know how to talk to and deal with patients with Alzheimer's and dementia because they need a special kind of care. Activities are music, crafts, trivia nights, and TV-themed activities. In the common part of the facility, there are different stations where you can have a gardening station, a sports station, a handyman station, a book station, and a little store station. They have different things that people might be interested in, and they could go to the station to just see the things, touch them and get hands-on. And I think that's important because they take into consideration all the different ways the people might have grown up or what they might like. The food is excellent.

I visited this facility

I toured Arden Courts of South Holland, and all they do there is memory care. The rooms were very nice, seemed very comfortable, very homey, didn't have that institutional type deal. They have their own baths, and since it's memory care, there's no kitchen. The staff who assisted me was very professional and I had no problems with anybody. I got to see everything. The activity area was very nice, the outdoor areas or the courtyard areas were nice, the dining area, everything was first class. The dining area was nice, very cozy, like walking into someone's home. Everything was immaculate and nothing was out of place. They were on the high side, I would have to pick them, but they're very nice. Other than that, I have no complaints about anything.

My father-in-law has been in Arden Courts of South Holland for about two months, and it's all doing great. I am very pleased with the staff. They're really doing a great job. It's wonderful, and I love it. It's only a one-storey building, which is all we wanted. It's circular setup wise, so that's great for his dementia problem. It's a nice small property. We're happy with his care, and the staff is very accommodating. It's very centrally located for the brothers to come and see him.

We choose Arden Courts for my father. They do the latest research with dementia. They have wandering trails, and they let them go outside. They don't use psychotropic drugs, they don't have chemical restraints, and they don't stick them on the top floor and not let them come out.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband was in respite care in Arden Courts. He is a walker and he has gotten into a place where he's not cooperative like he used to. The first time I used them for respite, it was good and I was satisfied. However, the second time, when I went to pick my husband up, he needed to be cleaned and shaved and that bothered me. However, I can understand that because even at home, my husband is not cooperative. They did have three eight-hour shifts, so it wasn't like a 24-hour duty, although I like their concern when he was there. As a whole, the facility was good. It was pleasant and clean. They would allow their patients freedom to move around like go into a little court garden that they have there. They also have a dining area, a TV area, etc., and they were set up strictly for Alzheimer's patients. I like that part of this facility. Security was excellent in this community. If you push your door, it will go off and it would alert the staff. While my husband was there, they did try to accommodate him in terms of food. They even asked us his favorites. The only thing they could improve on is the cleanliness of their residents. The facility is excellent, so I feel like their patients should be kept as clean as possible. However, with the patients they have, I don't know how to get them to do that.

This facility offers assisted living for people suffering from Alzheimer's Disease among other things. My great aunt suffered with Alzheimer's Disease and lived here for a number of years. They were very cleanly and respectful. They cared about their patients and allowed us to bring her gifts and sign her out of the facility when we were taking her out to lunch, dinner, shopping, doctors appointments, etc. We were out of state so it was very helpful to have these options. My great aunt got to the point where she forgot that her dog was her dog before we moved her here. The facility allowed us to come visit her and bring her dog with us. This was in 2000, so I'm not sure if the rules have changed, also the dog was very well behaved/ not in areas other than courtyard. Overall this was the best place for my great aunt and she lived out the last years of her life here.
