First of all, we are not in any way affiliated with this facility other than our loved one is a resident there. When we were in a position to find a secured Assisted Living home, we needed information such as this to help in a time of need.
We were very fortunate to find such a wonderful secured Assisted Living facility for our relative who has Alzheimer's disease. Clare Bridge of Perinton was very highly recommended by both the memory specialist and our attorney. We needed a secured facility and this fit the bill perfectly. They specialize in memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's which many others only have as a part of their facility. At Clare Bridge, they are all specifically trained for this type of care. As soon as we toured, we felt a very homey feeling with friendly staff to care for the residents which gave us great comfort. Throughout the process of transition to this new and secure home for our loved one, the staff was so accommodating and supportive. I sometimes think of the facility as the Goldilocks Home. It's not so small that there aren't residents to interact with, but not so large that you feel like your relative is just another person in a crowd. It is decorated lovely and kept clean with no smells to turn you off. They monitor the residents very well both physically and emotionally. You don't get the feeling that they are restricted from wandering throughout the facility which is what many dementia patients do. We had looked at other places, but decided this was the only place we would feel comfortable with to make sure our loved one was secure and well cared for. This was over a year ago, and we are even more impressed now that we have seen the competent staff in action as they care for our relative in a very respectful and loving way. Anything we ask about, they immediately address to make sure our minds are at ease as this is all new to us and is a difficult and stressful journey having a relative with dementia.
At Clare Bridge, there are so many activities to stimulate the mind that we sometimes wonder how they can do it all! Some residents who are able are taken on fun and interesting outings such as Canal boat rides, trips to farmer's markets, the RPO, out for a special meal and much more. The activities director is amazing and so caring and knows exactly which activities are perfect for the residents no matter what their level of dementia. There are a wide variety of crafts, lots of musical activities which they really enjoy and seems to be very good for dementia patients, different clubs, gardening, holiday activities and parties for residents and their family, evenings at the "spa", Lollypop pet visits, gentle Zumba, choir practices for their concerts, out for walks in good weather, movies, cooking projects, many types of games to keep the mind and body active, a variety of religious services, and so much more! (none of the other facilities we looked at had anywhere near the variety and amount of activities for the residents and family as well) They have musicians come to the facility quite often which is always great. Our relative enjoys many of these things and has made new friends and they enjoy the activities together. Of course if the resident just wants to sit and relax, they are not made to do things, but are gently encouraged as it is good stimulation for their mind and body. (They are not just left in a corner to sit as we saw in many other facilities) The meals are delicious and well prepared and served in a dining room with smaller tables which makes it feel like a restaurant atmosphere. We have been able to enjoy some of the special family programs/dinners and we find this is wonderful when they involve and encourage families and make us feel part of their family as well. There are several outside secured courtyards for both residents and visitors to enjoy being out in the nice weather which is very pleasant and a great place to visit in!
We were told to make our relative's apartment as much like home as we wanted to. They regularly clean and make sure things are all maintained. Anything we need them to do for us or repair in the apartment, they are right there to take care of it. Our loved one is very happy and comfortable in these secure surroundings and we feel at ease knowing the care is exactly what is needed. Any of our family or friends that visit Clare Bridge are as impressed by the facility as we are.
We had looked at other facilities, but the others didn't come close in any way. Most secured facilities made us feel like we were in an institution or fortress! Clare Bridge is completely secure, but is done in a discrete way that you know the residents are safe, but you don't have a feeling that your loved one is locked away which many others felt like to us. Most didn't seem homey or very friendly, but felt like institutions or were run down and didn't seem clean (were smelly) which was definitely not where we wanted our loved one.
If you are looking for a secured, compassionate, caring and home like facility for your loved one with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, we would highly recommend Clare Bridge of Perinton. We and our loved one are extremely happy with our choice.
