I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has moved into Stratford Commons Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. It is a very nice place, updated, and it's very clean. Her apartment is about 525 square feet. That's the biggest room they have there, but they are about $1,000 cheaper per month than any of the others I looked at. It's very nice and very convenient, easy to get to. Though it's nice and everything, my mom is not adjusting very well because she lived with me for eight years. It's a little tough for her at the moment, but not for their lack of trying to get her involved. I would rate them a four right now because we've got a few things to tweak with them. The staff were all very nice and very attentive. They have a doctor on staff, she comes once a week. They have a podiatrist that comes in, and somebody that does hair. They even have a dentist that comes in and does checks and stuff. They have a lot of amenities. The building is built kind of in a square, so there's no way any of the residents can get lost. Because no matter which way they walk, they end up in the common area where the dining and stuff are. My mom said the food is delicious, and I had one the last time I was there. Everything looks very good, and that's wonderful. Daily, they have a bus that takes them places if they want to go on drives. They go to lunch and things like that. You can get your prescriptions from their pharmacy and all their medications come in bubble packed. So, there's no possibility of getting messed up dosages or anything like that. They coordinate with my mom's primary care physician as well. They have bingo, and people that come in and do music. They have arts and crafts, a movie night, or whatever. They put out a little printed newsletter, and it's got a calendar in it for the month telling everything that's going on. It's very nice, there's plenty for them to do if they choose to do so. We pay $6450, which I said is about a thousand difference, maybe a little more, depending on other places I looked at. She's got a kitchenette, no stove, but it does have a refrigerator, sink, cabinets, living room, bedroom, a huge walk-in closet, and a huge bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's very nice. It's all one level, kind of ranch style, only the courtyard is in the middle, so it's secured.

I visited this facility

Everything about Stratford Commons Rehabilitation & Health Care Center seemed very fine. We just felt that for my mom, it was kind of big. We felt like she would be constantly lost. The rooms were very nice and roomy. They had a few different sizes of rooms. There was nothing about it that we didn't care for. They had little gathering spaces. They had a large activity area. They had an outside courtyard, and they had nice artwork in the halls. They knew they were large, so they like to paint a hall a color. It kind of has a theme in all of the artwork. I thought that there were helpful reminders for the residents to find their way.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. Our residents are our top priority, and we are so pleased you've had a great experience. Thanks again!

I visited this facility

I had an in-person visit to Stratford Commons. The person who gave me the tour was very good. The place had a better value because it was all inclusive. It didn't matter what level of care my mother was at, it was one all-inclusive price, and I really liked that. However, when their sales director called to follow up with me, he started asking me about her financial situation, and at the time I wasn't exactly sure if my mother would have the finances to be there for a full year. When he realized that she may not, he offered to help me find somewhere else, so that sort of turned me away, even though I thought it was better priced. All of the rooms were newly renovated. The rooms were just beautiful, and the cleanliness was good too. I didn't think there were a lot of places for gathering. Their main gathering area is their big dining room, which is right there as you come in the door.

My sister has moved into Stratford Commons. She has been welcomed there and is settling in quite well. They give her quality care and she has quite a bit of freedom, there are lots of places to walk, and places to go outside that she enjoys. They have a nice activities department that keeps the people busy. They prefer that people don't stay for long periods of time in their room during the day. She's being well cared for. Her room is small, but they deliberately said that it is her home and she can have anything she wants that's safe, but they really prefer for them to have lots of activities during the day and a lot of opportunities for people to be active. She has no complaints at all about the food, the only thing she gets to have is diet coke. We like that the staff is very considerate of my sister, considerate of me, and consults me frequently since she's a new resident, so we're still working out those details and working with the medical side as well. So far the staff has been excellent. The facility is improved, all of the residents rooms and residents areas, except for the dining area, which is now just remodeled, are just beautiful. It's an older facility, it isn't brand new, so the architecture is very adequate and designed very much with their residents' needs in mind. The maintenance is excellent, it's very clean. The value for the money is very good.

Provider Response

At Stratford Commons we know you have a choice of providers and would like to thank you for choosing us and taking the time to give us your feedback. We take pride in offering the highest standards of service. Sincerely, Stratford Commons

We love Stratford Commons. They're very caring, they've been very diligent with COVID, and they treat my mother-in-law with a lot of respect and care. The staff appears to be very attentive and caring. She hasn't participated in the activities because she's in quarantine, but we saw activities when we moved her in, and it's good. The price is reasonable for the area, she loves the food, and it seems clean. They're in the process of updating it, and they're remodelling rooms and stuff.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was a resident at Stratford Commons Memory Care for almost 27 months. During that time, I visited him at least once or twice every week. Most of the nursing staff were caring, hard-working, and respectful of residents. Unfortunately, as is all too often the case in assisted living communities, staff sufficient to effectively meet residents’ needs were not always available. Another detrimental, but common to assisted living, problem was staff turnover, especially among supervisory personnel. For example, four or five different activity/program coordinators were on staff during my father’s residency. The meals were above average, I believe, and the one-bedroom apartments were spacious. However, I cannot really recommend this memory care community. It lacks group transportation to take residents to any outside activities. Of more particular significance, my father lost the ability to get up and walk while there, primarily because staff did not follow through with exercises begun by physical therapists. Finally, he lost more than $300 worth of personal items during his stay.

Everything in Stratford Commons is very nice. The people who work there are fabulous, and have been so nice, patient, and kind. It's a very nice community. You walk inside, and they have to let you in because it's memory care, so you ring the buzzer, and everybody smiles at you. On the left is the eating area. It has paintings and animal pictures on the walls which my friend likes. She hates the food, but she hates it at every place. They left her a lunch tray, and it looked good. If I hadn't had lunch I would have eaten it. They're so kind there. The nurses work with her and are all trying. The staff is very nice. They can't force her to do anything, but they smile at her at least. They always have something to do. They're working with the residents and playing games. To me, the price is expensive because it's over $5,000 a month. On the other hand, she has 24-hour care.

I visited this facility

I hope I never have to be a patient at one of these kinds of facilities. I was here several times visiting a friend who is dying of cancer. She was moved here because it is the nicest of similar facilities in the area. I watched my friend wait over 20 minutes with her nurse call button on with no response. Tony/Anthony, the african american nurse with the glasses, was quite rude to me when my friend was in extreme pain and trying to get some medication. I know how difficult it must be working in a place like this, so I am intentionally nice. Tony, however, thought it was alright to completely ignore me in my requests for assistance for my friend. I have to say that everyone else I came into contact with was very kind. It takes one bad apple like him to make an experience unpleasant. Another visitor of my friend had a similar experience with this same nurse, Tony. Unemployment is at an all time low. It's time for this place to find a replacement for him.

We were happy with Stratford, and we had no issue with the people or the care. We didn’t have any issue with the place. We had to move pretty quickly to find my mother-in-law something and this was the one that my wife and her sisters chose. I think they were happy with the service, the place, and everything. It is just that her dementia accelerated pretty rapidly. Comparing it to others we’ve looked into, they were slightly less expensive. We thought the room was a little nicer than we had seen at some other places and a little roomier. I do know that my wife and her sisters liked it better than the other places they looked at, and they thought it would be a better place for their mother. One of the reasons primarily was it was somewhat centrally located between the 3 of the sisters who live here. So from a physical location, it was good, and I think they all liked it. They all thought the room was a little better for her than the others.

I visited this facility

The thing I was interested in was some respite care for 2 to 3 nights and Stratford Commons seemed to have a very nice facility for that. It was very home-like, and everybody seemed happy there. I saw a nice room that would be used for respite care. It was a little living area with a couch and then a separate room with no door but with a bed, a bath, and a little kitchenette.

I visited this facility

Stratford Commons was wonderful and I loved it. It was fabulous. What I loved about that facility was their dining hours; they were basically open from 7:00 A.M to 9:00 P.M, and you could go and eat or order anytime you wanted. I haven’t been to it since, but the lady that keeps calling me is very nice. She calls once a month to check how we’re doing and if we’re going to make any changes and the couple, that I was looking for, decided not to make any changes. But she’s been very pleasant.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Stratford Commons was amazing and remarkable for my mom. They were really awesome. They were just so delightful with her. My mom passed about two years ago, but she was there for about a year. It was fantastic. We couldn't have been happier. It was upscale. The people were so happy and kind. My mother could play the piano and she loved that, that's what she lived for. Even though she couldn't see, she could play, so they encourage her to play in the room and they would sing or they would ask her to play for a group. Mom was 102. Here, she had people that were coming by. It was just the loveliest-looking place, the kind you're proud to say "my mom lives here". It was clean; it smelled great. It was homey and cutesy. They had pictures on the doors that you could put in one of their fancy frames that showed all stages of your mom's life. They let us do whatever we wanted to with her room, so we set up a couch, bed, a piano, and two guest chairs, and she had a little kitchen in there where we could keep her favorite treats and ice cream. I can't say enough. Whenever we emailed them, they emailed us back, and they invited us to events that they had all the time. It was awesome. The only thing I wish they had was maybe a nurse or a doctor that is there 4 or 5 hours a day. The food was very nice. They had a formal dining room for all their normal assisted living people, and then in the back it was casual, like four seat tables and no linens. But whenever there's an event and they invited family in, we go to the formal area. The food was great. If she wanted a special something and didn't like what they're serving that day perhaps, we could say that she would just like a grilled cheese and they would do that.

I am a past client of this provider

I was very happy with Stratford Commons. It was one level, so residents didn't get lost and I got to know all the staff easily. I thought the rooms were nice and I felt there was good care there. It was like a small family, and I like that. The room that my son had was a one bedroom and it opened up to a courtyard in the middle of the facility. The food was okay and served at a certain time so everybody ate together. The staff is very caring and very good. The director that was there before, if you ever had any kind of problem that come up, she would address it immediately. My son was there four years and I did not have a complaints.
