I visited this facility

We toured the Superior Residences of Cala Hills. The tour was good. The people were very informative. They gave us a folder. Me and my daughter went and talked to them because my husband was working, so we talked to them first. They were very considerate, and very informative about things. They sat and listened to what we needed, what we were looking for information, and stuff for my father-in-law. I think they connected another wing, a small wing to their facilities, and we took a tour of the new park that they had just finished up. It was all very clean. I was very impressed, and so was my daughter. They were very good people. They have a nice garden area. They told us about where the residents can go out and sit outside in the garden area. They even have grills and stuff that some of them watching over can use. It did look good. It's clean and it was close to shopping, right uptown in Ocala and everything. We were very impressed. My father-in-law's allergic to peanuts, they said they were complaining that they put that all on their records and stuff. The dietitians had pictures of each of the residents and what they liked and what they couldn't eat in their kitchen, so that when they were making their meals, they could look up and say this person can't eat this, this person can't eat that. They even had their picture with what they could eat so they could recognize who was who and everything. I was impressed with that piece of information.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I like the Superior Residences of Cala Hills because they're small and very personal. They seem interested in giving a good quality of life to my dad. I just really like them. They have board games and bingo, and they watch a lot of TV because it's easier for them. I think they take them out from time to time, but we take dad out a lot ourselves. He might not even be there for a lot of the activities, because we spend a lot of time with him. They're way more reasonable than most places, and I feel like my dad is getting better care because we tried another place before this, and we yanked him out pretty fast, and they were way more expensive. In this place, I like how the people are very engaged with the residents. They talk to them and spend time with them, more than just when they have to.

Superior Residences of Cala Hills was in the city and it's very nice looking. The staff was very happy and very pleasant. They showed me everything they had there. The courtyard was pretty. They also had a dining room and a garden. It's in a good and safe location. It's near everything. Just that I wasn't there long enough to do more. I was only there for about 10 minutes.

We went on a short tour of Superior Residences of Cala Hills. It seemed to be adequate. The rooms were a little smaller. We weren't quite as impressed with the layout and the size of the room there. They showed us a studio. We saw their dining room and it looked adequate. At the time we were there, there wasn't anything going on. The staff were very good.

I liked that the security of Superior Residences of Cala Hills seemed good. The activity schedule also seemed good and the relatively small number of residents that they had in their memory care seemed an appropriate amount. The staff was very caring and attentive. The facility just seemed quite old and not updated, and there's too much carpet, which could increase fall risk.

Superior Residences of Cala Hills had a welcome sign when we arrived, which was a nice touch. The staff and the residents seemed very engaged. They had someone come in that would do a salon kind of thing for the residents. The whole facility looked very welcoming.

Superior Residences of Cala Hills is a very clean community. They have very nice people that work there. It is complete memory care. There is no assisted living. It is only for memory care people, which makes it very nice. They break their people up into three areas, from the least amount of memory care to the most extensive amount of memory care. I just thought it was a very good place. We only met the gentleman that was in charge of sales. He had a lot of information, and he was very helpful. He answered all the questions we needed to be answered.

We saw Superior Residences of Cala Hills. The rooms were very small. The residents were all sitting in front of a television. I heard no one called by their name. The place was clean. There were drinks and snacks set out, but a lot of people with memory care need drinks handed to them, not just set out. I didn't see much interaction between staff and residents. I saw their dining room. They had silverware.

I went to the Superior Residences of Cala Hills. The community was nice. I spoke with a couple of other individuals there. One of them I think was the head, he was over the nursing portion of it, but the place was clean. They seemed to be taking care of the individuals there, and the way they have their memory care set up there, they have it divided into wings. You have the people that get the care and don't require a whole lot of attention as far as memory, and then you have the sort of intermediate ones which require a little more time and effort. And then you have the ones that pretty much require full-time care in the third wing. As far as the facility, it was clean and it was well lit, and everybody there was friendly. The rooms were relatively spacious and clean and the bathrooms were nice and large, and they appeared to have it sort of nice for people that needed assistance getting up and down and using the bathroom. It's just the price. I couldn't afford it. Superior was one of the more affordable places, it's like three grand per shared room, and even that is still out of my price range. The outside area could be a little bigger.

We went to Superior Residences of Cala Hills and we had a good talk with the director of sales. They have three neighborhoods. She showed us through the first and second to see what that's all about. They're strictly memory care. My husband found it quite pleasant. He actually gave it a 4-star but I found it a bit dark inside and not very cheery. When it's so dark, it feels depressing to me. The other issue I had was not getting the actual cost. I've been getting the cost as far as the base price, but when I asked the cost for different levels of care, I didn't get an answer. We were able to look in one room that was occupied, and it was kind of small, although my husband said that doesn't bother him because he said we only sleep in it, so that's fine. The bathroom was good sized. My husband can't have a shower that has a big lip where he has to step over. It's a small shower and it doesn't have a built-in seat, so he would have to get a shower chair. They said they were in the process of trying to deal with contractors to make all their bathrooms ADA compliant, but we don't know how long that would take. There was a yard, but we didn't get to take a tour of it. They had the doors closed, but I was able to look out and it's a small yard. They had a common area that had a movie theater section where they could sit and watch movies. The level one neighborhood had a coffee bar and a refrigerator where they could just go in themselves and get snacks and get coffee and so forth. That one doesn't happen in level two. We didn't look at level three because the staff said that's not something we want to see right now. The dining area was small and it also served as the common area where they could play games or what have you. It may be a fantastic facility and my husband thought it was just fine, but I wouldn't want to go in there. I had my mother in a memory care facility that was very bright and cheery, which doesn't make it so depressing when you go in there. The staff was very good, but I didn't like the fact that he never gave me an actual answer as far as what the cost would be. I would have to put my husband in there and then once they assess him, they would tell me what the cost would be and I just can't do that because financially I have a budget. The layout was good. I don't think anybody is going to get lost in there. The dining area was centrally located and the rooms were around the outside of it.

My wife is in Superior Residences at Cala Hills and we have had a really good experience with them. We do not have any problems. After breakfast they have mid-morning activities like puzzle work, games, and some refreshments. In the afternoon they watch a movie, play games, and puzzles again. They keep her pretty active. She has an excellent room; it's a private room with a private bath. I try to have lunch with her every day or every other day, and what I have seen for lunch is really excellent for her. They take care of her feeding. They have barbecues during the week, outside, weather permitting, and if it's not too hot for the people. They've been good. They have a birthday party for them when their birthday is coming up.
