Reviews of The Barton House

I am a friend or relative of resident
My father-in-law was at Barton House for almost 2 years. There were many activities for residents, music of various genres was played, there were 5 meals/snacks daily, and monthly family dinners, often with entertainment. So much more pleasant than any nursing home.

I visited this facility
I visited the Barton House in August of 2011 with one of my girlfriends. My friend had a relative that was living in this facility at the time, and the relative has since passed away. It was a sad experience visiting a nursing home, but it was also an eye-opening experience as well. I did notice that there was a strong smell after I had been in the building for a few minutes. The smell was the strongest near the living quarters of the residents. I did not seem to notice the smell in the cafeteria or activities area. The cafeteria and activities areas were clean and bright, and the meal that I saw looked decent. Watching the some of the seniors during meal time was a bit sad, because most of them fully depended on help to eat. I am glad that they had a hard working staff available to help their residents feel comfortable, respected, and well-care for.

Message from the Executive Director - Elizabeth Garton Masic.
“Alzheimer’s and dementia take an extraordinary toll on families. I’ve seen it first hand with my own family—and our families here at Barton House. That’s why our philosophy is to deliver the best life possible, for our residents and their families. We believe in the dignity of each moment: kind words and a hand to hold, a clean shirt and neatly combed hair, an invitation to sing along, even when words don’t come easily. We believe in answering questions and keeping families informed, but always focusing on the positive. We believe in transparency, and access, patience, and good humor. We believe that the body and spirit absorb everything—regardless of what the mind remembers. And we make every moment count.”
