I visited this facility

We liked the cleanliness and the overall condition of Brookdale Plymouth. The one thing that put us on a little hold was that the residents didn't seem engaged in any way, shape, or form when we were there. It could be just at that moment, but the other facility we're looking at now has residents that were engaged with the staff and we just could not see that there. They had all of the amenities and exercises, but that wasn't geared solely towards men. The facility was nice and well-kept. We had to come back the second time though because the person who was supposed to give us the tour left the organization and nobody told us about it. The dining area was lovely. We saw a sample of their menu. It is a 5-week continual. So, that changed every five weeks.

We looked at Brookdale Plymouth. The person that I spoke to there, her name was Christa, was very knowledgeable and answered my questions. I liked that she knew a lot of the residents and interacted with them, and they seemed genuinely happy to see her. I've observed them doing something during their group time, and it looked like the residents were having fun during the group time. The rooms looked pretty nice, there was a nice big window in all of them. They were a little bit smaller than some of the other places, and if you want to use the elder waiver, you'd have to have a roommate. I also saw the showers and that looked fine. They have a couple of TV areas and a dining area.

Brookdale Plymouth would've been our first choice, except for the distance that my dad would have to drive to go see my mom. They were top. They had the most interesting, pretty interior. It looked like a little street in a town and the offices of the staff all looked like little shops along the street. It was really unique. The residents' rooms were just beyond that, but they could walk around. They had a chef that did all their cooking and they sent us home with a little container with some treats in it. They have activities daily, and it was quite a variety. Their prices were comparable, but they were probably number one on our list except for the distance. They had nice companion rooms. It did not look like a hospital at all. You either had a private room that was just like a studio apartment and they were just real small, or if they were a double room, there was definite separation. This side of the room is for this resident and that side of the room is for the other one, and there was a bathroom in between that they shared. For memory care, they definitely would visualize and see their spaces over there. One of them was even L-shaped, so that one resident got one part of the L and the other resident got the other side. There was definite separation and that was nice, and at a discounted rate because it was a room for two people.

We went to look at Brookdale Plymouth. When we first walked in the front door, it had the feel of Disney World, where you have all the little shops right there. All the fronts of the offices and the salon looked like little storefronts. The place was a bit of a maze. They were doing well for the clients they had, but it felt more like a nursing home. They just have one kind of gathering area. They tried to be interactive, but not everybody there was very interactive. They could simplify the layout. It's very easy to get turned around in the hallways. It was a little congested and felt like there were a lot of people in a very small area sometimes. The staff members were all very friendly. They were older and had been there for a while. It looked like the facility was kept up well.

I liked that Brookdale Plymouth was a little cheaper than where mom is now. There was outdoor space. The staff was very nice, friendly and showed us everything (just like what you'd expect). The cleanliness was good, but the rooms were way too small and that's what we didn't like. I also didn't like the fact that the shower was down the hallway. There's no microwave, no refrigerator, no nothing. It's just one little tiny bedroom with a bathroom, no shower or tub, just a toilet, and a sink. They had entertainment for the residents, and the dining area was more like a cafeteria.

I liked Brookdale Plymouth. It was nice, but it was all memory care. I prefer to have a mixture even though their memory care was separate. The people were very nice. It was a circular place, and there were 45 residents there at the time. They were doing interesting activities. I was pleased with it. The staff during the tour was wonderful. I really liked her a lot.

I liked the feeling when you first walk into Brookdale Plymouth because it's in a little square and the walls looked like the outdoors. The people seemed very nice. The community areas where you can sit and watch TV were very nice, open, and light. It's a very nice place, and the rooms were a nice size and very clean. The residents were in the dining area playing a game when I got there. It's an easily accessible area.

Relative of a resident who has been there almost a year. In that time, staff turnover has been 300% for the kitchen and dining room staff, and 100% for management and medical. Only David, the recreation director, is still there, God bless him. Housekeeping is terrible - after multiple requests over a week's time, the room still had not been cleaned, until I started doing it myself. Then the staff showed up, totally disinterested, and spent 15 minutes vacuuming and washing the bathroom sink and toilet..They stand around at mealtime instead of serving coffee and beverages, as needed, just throw the plates down in front of the residents, then grab the plates back when the meal is over. No polite comments, or serving more coffee or drinks.

They talk a good game but they don't deliver. Rooms aren't cleaned, The place smells strongly of urine. They are only private pay even though they will tell you you can stay., your out when your money is gone. The food it terrible. High staff turnover, poor training. They don't keep the clients clean, teeth brushed hair cared for regular bathing. Look some where else this is run by an uncaring corporation just looking to make big money.

My mother was a resident of Brookdale of Plymouth for several years and I felt her care was exceptional. She had been very isolated and unwilling to participate in activities at her previous residence but the B of P staff helped her feel welcomed and she was so much happier. She said many times in her last year of life, "I'm so glad I moved here." My mother was fairly high functioning so didn't need a lot of the care many do, but I felt her care was stellar. The food could have been better, but the director, activities staff, receptionists, and nursing staff were amazing. I also felt the layout and aesthetics were lovely compared to other places I had toured. I felt they truly cared about my mother and our family, and would highly recommend Brookdale of Plymouth.

I didn’t have any problems with people at Brookdale Plymouth. They’re fine, but they just didn’t seem like a good fit for Ann. I felt the style of the shared rooms were not very good because there was just a partition between the two beds. They had good security system, which was important.

Don't believe what they try to sell you. During the touring process the place seems amazing, warm and loving. However, they are not a facility that follows patient care through end of life. It starts out ok as long as the resident is somewhat functional. Once a residents symptoms gets worse, care goes completely downhill. The residents are not clean. The nutrition is horrible. If a patient can't feed themselves, they don't have enough staff to take the time to feed them or they don't even notice that a resident isn't even eating. There is no one around that can tell you anything. Phones aren't answered in the evening and business management is poor. Management is never there and RN nurses are not there during the evening, only on call and the staff is not educated to even know to call a nurse. Patients are left with unskilled aids and med passers all night long. It is not a place I would put anyone in. Falls are undocumented. Bruises can't be explained and quality of care is extremely poor.

Brookdale Plymouth did not have much parking, but it was very nice. Another negative was the public restrooms were locked. The rooms were nice, and the dining area was very nice as well.

I had a family member who lived here. Overall they're Ok but I think the facility is too big and poorly manages. When loved ones become more vulnerable and can't speak up for themselves it gets worse. We were not happy. Things were stolen, lost, etc. The director didn't seem to care. When my family member was injured they couldn't seem to keep it straight how to care for her and I got mixed messages all the time from various staff. I think in general there are a lot of good folks there, but it is poorly managed.

I was looking for a memory care facility for my mother with Alzheimers, the person that helped me was very knowledgeable of facility....it was able to see to my mothers needs medically and physically. I was very pleased with information she was able to give, and I shared this with my family. Unfortunately the majority of my family lives 2 hours west of here and they wanted my mother to be closer to them.

Do not believe all they tell you. We had many problems getting staff to follow diet (no dairy) and not serve her foods she hated. Some meals looked unattractive, sometimes there was no milk or creamer for residents requesting it. Room was lovely, looked out on a courtyard. We planted flowers outside window but courtyard was sadly neglected, weeds, shrubs needing trim, empty planters. Some staff were incredibly kind and attentive, others not so. Getting call lights answered was an issue. Shower room was too cold and no temp controls in patient rooms. Ours was cold in winter so we put plastic over the window to keep it warmer. Not sure I would place a loved one here again.

The rooms are really good. The staff were friendly and informative, but I just think they need to redecorate the place because it looks old.

If we only need dementia care, this is our first choice. That was beautiful. It is small, the staff knows all the residents, and they call them by name. It is just a really lovely place and very caring staff. My sister-in-law also had met the lady that headed the staff in one of the seminars about Alzheimer's that she attended, so that helped as well. The rooms were small and cozy, and the facility went around in a kind of semi-circle, so there is no way you could ever get lost. It was just very well done.
