I visited this facility

The sales staff at Brookdale Alderwood was very nice. She was a little apologetic because they've been doing a lot of remodeling, and they had just done Scotchgarding of the carpets and furniture. So, there was a bit of a smell in there. Even though it's going through all the remodeling and everything, it's still a little bit older. They also had some music and entertainment while I was there. The rooms were just smaller though. I met the gentleman that was the activities director, who was very exuberant and very outgoing. He was very enthusiastic and talked about what he was doing, or what they do with their activities. So, that was nice. The gardens were nice too, and it was secure. They have a central recreation room, a little area for the men to work on, like a workbench, if they want to work with some tools. They had a quiet garden area where there were birds singing in the background, which was also nice.

Brookdale Alderwood's layout is OK. They are short-staffed and don't have enough staff members to take care of the people that they need to take care of. The food is not made there, and they have it shipped from somewhere else. They have a company that comes by and drops off the food that's already prepared. They sit in a room, watch TV, sing, do exercises, and have somebody come in and play the piano or guitar to entertain them. My brother is staying in a really small room that fits a twin size bed, a night stand, and one dresser. He also has a closet and bathroom with no shower, just a toilet and sink. The place is pretty clean, and they pick up after him and do the laundry. The smell is OK. The price of a room and the personal services they give my brother are running $8,700 a month, so it’s pretty high, and every year, they raise the rent.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When my husband was still alive, he was at Brookdale Alderwood. I liked the way the different houses were laid out. The staff was outstanding and very helpful when my husband needed a lot of care. It was hard for me put him in there. The activity director came out and comforted me. They were just so wonderful to me and my husband.

I think Brookdale Alderwood was very appropriate and affordable, but the bedrooms were too small for what my mother needed at this time. For patients who have Alzheimer's, it was an excellent location. I did see an activity; it was a very appropriate activity, and they did seem involved. It is affordable, and it is an enclosed facility for Alzheimer's patients, so it is safe for them to go outside and walk. The bedrooms were small but adequate for someone with that illness.

Right now, my husband is in Brookdale Alderwood. It is a dementia/Alzheimer's facility. It seems perfectly adequate, and he seems well taken care of. I cannot ask for much more. He is in a private room. They live in a cottage environment. They have a living room and a dining room. They gather there. The whole facility consists of four cottages. It seems to meet their needs quite well. However, they do not have a Medicaid contract, so he is a private pay.

I visited quite a few, but I ended up picking Brookdale Alderwood (formerly Clare Bridge of Lynnwood). My girlfriend told me to go and look at it because her father was there. I liked it enough to go ahead and put my mom in there. I am pleased with it so far. I wish they had more healthcare workers to how many people they have. Her room is small, but it is fine. I like their dining facility, and their food is so much better than where she was before. They are very wonderful, and I like everything.

Brookdale Alderwood is where I went, and my mother has been there since January. So far, the place appears to be kept up as far as being clean, and the food seems OK. As a matter of fact, my mother has put on almost ten pounds since she has been there. There is more room to walk around, and one of the major reasons we picked it was that if they want to walk outside, they can. There is a courtyard and pathway that goes around the building. Of course, there is a 9-foot-high fence, so they can't get out, but I think you don't feel like you are trapped or caged in. If you want to open the door for a walk out, you can. I think that tends to give the residents a sense of freedom, she seems to be so much calmer there, and so I am happy about that. At first we thought the caregivers that were there were too relaxed, but after thinking about it, if you are constantly on people, if you are uptight, these people that have dementia feed off the people around them. So if the caregivers are angry, if they are like constantly in a hurry, they are going to feed on that. So, I kind of like the laid-back feeling because the residents, everybody there, seems like they are OK. And the workers, I am appreciating their personalities now. So far, we are pretty happy. For me, my main concern was to bring down my mother's anxiety level. I just had an assessment meeting with the nurse, she is doing really well, and her anxiety level really has come down a lot. It is not a bad place -- it is actually a decent place -- and the people who work are pretty decent, so I am satisfied.

My mom had some aggressive behavior at Clare Bridge of Lynnwood. Even though we had an appointment, we waited for a long time. The director had to take us because the other lady was on the phone doing something. But she tried to accommodate us also. It smelled like urine. It just didn't seem organized and everything seemed smaller, too. I saw one lady get lost. She was in the wrong area. I didn’t like the set up. It felt like it was more locked in. I was not just impressed.

Clare Bridge of Lynnwood is in a good location. They cater to different levels of needs or different levels of sickness. The staff was quite helpful. They provided food, entertainment, as well as movies. Although I did not feel that my husband was quite ready for that, and he wasn't in there long enough. Sometimes it seemed they were short staffed.

They have the best caregivers and nurses. Every time I go see my Aunt, she is clean, happy, and well taken care of. She loves some the activities they have like bingo, crafts, and this new computer they have that lets her chat with me via web cam and sing Kareoke songs. I can't think of a thing they do wrong. They have some patients there who need a lot of attention and care and it's sometimes hard to understand how they can do it all. But, every time I see the care givers with these people, they're lovingly caring for them and involving them in activities. I love this facility. It's awesome!

Well it was pretty much a horrible experience. My mother, who was a paraplegic, stayed here after having back surgery. She stayed for nearly a month. In that time they dropped her twice while trying to transfer her from the bed to her wheel chair. They were trying to use a Hoyer lift to do the transfer and it seemed like nobody had ever used one before nor did they want me to show them how to properly use it to do the transfer. I know I do not have any certs or have been officially trained how to use a Hoyer lift but with a little common sense, I had been using it for years and done thousands of transfers. To make matters worse after the first time they did not want listen to my advice and they ended up dropping her again. They are lucky they did not cause any damage to her recent surgery on her back.

The staff do nothing to engage the residents. I heard them speaking a foreign language right in front of them and the look on their faces was frightening. They have dementia and anything out of the ordinary just confuses them even more. The State has shut them down three times, the Director has been fired, and the RN was also fired. They can't keep their residents safe. They should be shut down permanently and if you know anyone that has a family member there, you should get them out NOW!
