I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is 95 and has lived at Spring Gardens for 5 years. I feel very good about the service and care she receives there. The CNAs and other staff members are attentive, cheerful, and friendly to my mom. She enjoys meeting with her friends who are residents in the dining hall for meals, but she also enjoys that she can have meals delivered to her room if she wants to do so. The dining room is open from 7 am - 7 pm and residents are free to eat what is on the daily menu or they can have breakfast anytime of day or soup or salad and ice cream, which my mom really enjoys. The room size is quite adequate for her with a bedroom, living area, and bathroom. There are many activities for residents to choose from. My mom is not fond of crafts so she frequents the library and the hair salon. I feel good that she is in a secure place with helpful, loving people to care for her.

I visited this facility

We toured Spring Gardens Lindon. They have wonderful, large, and open spaces. The bedrooms were smaller than in other places, but the community spaces were very big compared to others. When you walk in, there's someone there to talk with you. They get back to you quickly and communicate very well. They gave me a wonderful tour, I had just walked in and didn't even have an appointment, but they made time for me and I got to talk to a nurse. They called back but they weren't pushy, they're just really helpful. Their dining experience was awesome, you can go any time and order anything you want. They have servers come out, and if you sit down there's going to be a waitress there for you. I think their dining was their most impressive feature. It's an older place and kinda spaced out, so it's almost too big. The amount of time it takes to walk and go down to these wonderful places and things, it's a lot. So if you have issues walking, it'd be hard to walk that far. It's not quite as new as the others but it's nice enough.

I visited this facility

Spring Gardens Lindon is a very warm, inviting, and welcoming place. Their rooms were clean, and the staff seems to be wonderful. They're very friendly and a little more seasoned than some of the other places I looked at. They've been there for a while, so the facility seems to run well, and they know what they're talking about. They have good people that work there, and they went above and beyond. Their dining area is also great, and the dinners I have brought home have been very nice. When I was there, the memory care residents were having a snack and were getting ready to play a game, like a Jeopardy or a word game.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Mom was very happy at Spring Gardens. She loved the staff in the Memory Care Center. All the staff from the Front Office Management to the CNA’s on the floor treated her with love and respect. From our monthly payments to her personal care we were always treated professional. We were always greeted by name when we either entered or left the facility. She said many times that the staff were just like her own kids. She had staff that would take her for walks, encourage her to join activities, as well go on bus rides and they were always more than happy to just sit and visit. She was so thankful they would take the time to style her hair and paint her nails. My Mom was always welcomed with a smile when we would return from visits. Mom mentioned many times that she never felt alone while she was at Spring Gardens. She always had friends and staff members that cared for her. I would visit her many different time during the day or days of the week and she was always happy. The facility was always clean and the Ice Cream Parlor became one of our favorite hangouts. When you are trying to find a home away from home for your Mom it is so important that you find someone that you can trust. We found that at Spring Gardens. My Mom was at Spring Gardens for 7 months and passed away on 1 October 2019. I know she was happier at Spring Gardens than she had been for a while. Thank you so much for your loving care.

I visited this facility

We visited the assisted living of Spring Gardens. We ate there and the food I would give a two. It just doesn’t have the same quality as the others. It was nice, and when we first went in they had a little ice cream parlor up front, so you can get ice cream anytime you want. I thought that was nice. It’s new, and so it was shiny and clean, but it did not have the feeling the other places had. I would give the staff member who accommodated me a four. She was friendly and answered all of our questions. For activities they had a group come in and sing to the residents, we went to that, and that was very nice.

Provider Response

Hi Norene, and thank you for your feedback. We normally receive rave reviews about our food and the overall feeling at our community, so I apologize that your experience wasn't what we were looking for. I have let management know and we will do everything in our power to improve based on all your comments here! -Carsten Ellsworth

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents lived in assisted living at Spring Gardens for just a few months. My initial impression was that it was a beautiful, clean, friendly place with caring, dedicated staff. The receptionists quickly learned my name and always greeted me warmly when I came. The kitchen and cleaning staffs were amazing - always cheerful and kind to the residents and their guests. The cnas and med techs were attentive and patient with my aging parents. There were many fun activities and outings, and the food was usually quite good. (I especially enjoyed the salad bar.) i appreciated that meals were served on demand from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm - so accommodating. I was also very impressed with the various entertainment, especially during the Christmas holiday. Mom thoroughly enjoyed the Valentines dance in February! Beyond all of that, the thing I loved most at Spring Gardens was the wonderful residents who warmly welcomed my parents and took the time to get to know them and befriend them! As time went on and my parents began to settle in, I started to notice some areas which had room for improvement. Services we had signed up and paid for were not being done, and/or my parents would be charged for services, like laundry, that we did not sign up for. There was also a LOT of pressure from administrators to change my parents' primary caregivers to the in-house medical staff. Though convenient, it quickly became an obvious conflict of interest. Another concern was the staff's lack of training on "redirecting" residents with dementia. (Mom has Alzheimer's.) One staff member told me that when there was dementia related training made available, few staff ever attended. (Why wasn't such training mandatory?) When the time came to move Mom to memory care, my family spent several hours, on different days, in the Spring Gardens memory care unit observing the way the residents were cared for. I found the atmosphere very different from assisted living. Of course a great deal of that had to do with the diminished cognitive abilities of the sweet residents there, but even more so was the stark difference in lighting, furnishings, layout, and activities. There was minimal natural light and the common area was small and cramped. Residents were often found sitting in front of a t.v. Rarely did we see them engaged in activities. The unit always felt understaffed and lacking. We checked out seven other facilities in the valley and found several we liked much better. The bottom line. If your loved one does not have dementia, then Spring Gardens is a lovely place to live, though not perfect. However, if your loved one needs, or will soon need, the additional attention of memory care, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Provider Response

Thank you for your honesty and for giving us your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have the best experience possible with our memory care and I have brought up your comments here with management! I would like to stress that we do host mandatory dementia care training regularly for our staff. We even had memory care expert Eric Collette come to speak to the team recently! At any rate, we're sorry to see you go but wish you all the best. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything. -Carsten Ellsworth

My mother-in-law moved into Spring Gardens. It's wonderful, it's brand new, and it's really nice. The staff is wonderful. They have arts and crafts projects, and a place to walk outside. She's doing really well.
