Questions About The Memory Center Atlanta
What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
We require sixteen plus hours of training before a staff member can begin working. We perform ongoing training monthly through staff member meetings and hands-on demonstration.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
Our care partner to resident ratio is one to four during the daytime and one to five at nighttime. This ratio is not inclusive of the leadership team nor the nurses and housekeeping staff.
What programs or activities does The Memory Center Atlanta offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our Town Center concept is unique and innovative and designed to provide an interactive and engaging environment. Our activity programming focuses on enhancing physical as well as cognitive functioning. There's also 1,000 feet of outdoor walking paths featuring large porch areas with tables and gliders. Our bus provides local transportation to outings and appointments. Residents are engaged in reminiscing activities both one to one and through social programs such as our daily ice cream social and happy hour. Individual plans of care identify a resident's personal interests and strengths and those interests are incorporated into our activity programming and plan.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our resident service director and/or resident service assistant complete the assessment on each resident prior to move in and 14 days after move in, quarterly and then upon significant change. We are staffed with nurses 24 hours per day.
What techniques does The Memory Center Atlanta use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
We understand the challenge that mealtimes can present for a resident with dementia. We serve our meals on red plates to allow the best contrast of food and we offer two entrees to choose from at the time of the meal. We present the plates of food at time of decision as needed to provide a visual cue and stimulate the appetite. We can provide finger foods and special diets as needed and ordered by the primary care physician.
How does The Memory Center Atlanta keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
Via family meetings and telephonic and email communication, families are provided with updates, positive moments and changes in condition. We host family nights and send family newsletters to further enhance communication, gain feedback, and provide educational opportunities.
Describe the neighborhood around The Memory Center Atlanta. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
