I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Country House is a brand new facility. It is really nice. They are all single rooms with single baths, no shared baths. Upstairs are the memory care patients, and down below are those who are still basically functioning, so they are not all lumped together like some facilities. It was excellent. The chef even came out and introduced himself. He was talking to all the residents after they had their meals; he went and talked to each one. It was a real friendly and open atmosphere. They were playing Bingo, and the other day when I talked to my mother, she said that they took her out to an art studio, and they had Hawaiian dancers come and perform for them the other day.

I visited this facility

I had the pleasure of visiting Country House in Granite Bay yesterday. Each staff member who saw me was quick to make sure I had been taken care of and had smiles on their faces. I was also impressed with the interaction between staff and residents. The executive director was quick to grab the hand of one of the gentlemen in memory care to comfort him and make him feel involved in the day to day operations of the community. Very lovely building.

Provider Response

One simple goal is at the heart of everything we do: to provide a community where we’d feel comfortable having our own loved ones if the need arose. We love our residents and are honored to walk with them (and their families) through this part of their lives. Please know you are always welcome here!

Overall the facility and the staff are excellent. The common House and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The activities and family events are fun and a great way to connect with other resident's families. My dad has been living at CountryHouse for almost 1.5 years--there has been quite a bit of staff turnover during that time and they continue to be understaffed--this is my biggest concern as proper attention to housekeeping, safety, interaction and ADL care has been sporadic. It improves when I bring my concerns up but isn't always sustained. My dad doesn't require a lot of care at this time thank goodness, but I am concerned for when his care needs increase, if staffing levels do not improve. The outside agency "extra" help are not devoted to the care of the residents nor do they go out of their way to interact with families--this is very concerning as they usually appear to just be a warm body to help staffing ratios. I would like to see all of the staff wearing name tags, all the time so I can easily identify them and get to know them without having to ask their names. I would like more thorough cleaning of my dad's room (bathroom most especially). I worry about the "long term staff"--I can see some of them getting tired, I hear them comment about having to work extra hours/double shifts---It creates stress for the devoted caregivers that have "weathered this ongoing storm". The staff that have been present for most of the time my dad has been here (Brittney, Lexi, Nichole, Christine, Goshong) are fabulous--very loving, kind, caring & as attentive as possible. I'm very thankful for their presence in my dad's life--they truly make a difference. The activities director, Julie is genuine & caring in her approach. She has created fun activities, engages with the residents and tries to ensure their involvement. She too needs help to be able to continue to engage the residents in individualized activities --for these residents it isn't a "one activity fits all"--she has great ideas and clearly a passion to carry out individualized activities but she is only one person.

The activities director, Julie, is amazing!!! She is organized and has a lot of fun and interesting activities for the residents. She is sincere and honest. I have participated in many of the activities from bingo to sing a longs to family BBQs. And they are a lot of fun for everyone. The rooms are very nice. You can decorate any way your love one likes. Most of the time the rooms are basically clean but if you are super picky you might get upset at how personal items are handled. linens, blankets and other items are rarely folded neatly in the closet. The same goes for clothing in the drawers, they are not placed in an organized or neat fashion. I would not bring items of value (sentimental or price) as they can not be supervised well enough to ensure they will not get broken. The staff are very kind and caring to the residents. They interact with them like they are good friends and try to engage the people in conversation and are very positive. The staff will bend over backwards to ensure you have everything you or your loved one needs when you visit. Overall I have been pleased with Country House. BUT I DO HAVE A FEW ITEMS THAT HAVE MADE IT VERY STRESSFUL FOR ME HAVING MY RELATIVE THERE. I feel that the community is not staffed with enough care providers to ensure all the residents are appropriately and safely supervised. The facility is very large and spread out with 2 separate wings- Barton & Douglas in addition to the backyard and a second floor now open to certain residents. If you have a 6 resident to 1 staff ratio and you include your administrative & office support staff in this ratio you are spreading your direct care staff too thin to appropriately provide supervision to the residents. Thus the interactions between the staff and residents are often hurried and rushed because the staff are constantly being paged via the ear bud headphones to yet another room or area to assist other staff thus leaving the resident that may need additional care due to toileting needs or assistance with feeding or other personal care with unfinished or less than ideal care. The administration often uses an agency to augment their care staff and these extra care givers do not know the residents or their specific needs. Hygiene, dressing and other basic levels of care have been neglected on more than a few instances and sadly the residents that can least care for any of their own needs are often the ones who are neglected the most. I have seen several instances where residents are engaging in dangerous behaviors and there are no staff to alert - as the staff are in a completely different wing of the building. Meals are a prime example where 1 staff member is available in the dining room to supervise and support over 25-30 residents during a meal. Ensuring that every resident gets the necessary one on one time needed to complete hygiene, dressing and feeding every day is imperative.

Country House Residence provides outstanding care for our mother and support for our family. The staff is extremely caring and well trained, and provide a warm and loving environment that is very apparent with the interaction our mom has with them. We are so happy to find a loving home for our mom that specializes in Memory Care and caters to her needs. The staff goes the extra mile to make sure that the residents feel safe and comforted. The facility is clean and beautiful inside and out and provides lots of great space for the residents and families to enjoy, including a lovely patio out back where the residents can enjoy the sunshine. The apartments are clean and well maintained. Country House provides wonderful activities for the residents both onsite and offsite, and outstanding celebrations for the families to enjoy meals with their loved ones. The food is excellent and they make sure that the residents are maintaining a nutritious diet that is customized to their individual needs. I definitely would highly recommend County House Residence to anyone looking for outstanding memory care for their loved one. They are an Excellent Facility and our family is so happy to have found Country House Residence. Sincerely, Patty P. Granite Bay, CA

I spent a whole summer visiting local places to handle the physical and mental needs that my mother had developed. From the very get-go, the lovely young woman who guided us (unannounced and unscheduled - spur of the moment visit) took us on a tour. What impressed me the most was that she talked directly to my mother, making eye contact and reading her concerns. My husband and I were afforded the opportunity to talk to "The Dementia Whisperer" (a consultant affiliated with CountryHouse), which made a huge difference in our understanding of what was happening to Mother. The staff has always been so helpful to us and considerate of all of Mother's various needs. They are open to our contributing Music and Art. They go out of their way to include families and visitors and have graciously handled unfortunate interference by an unpleasant family member. For us, CountryHouse has our confidence and applause for Mother's care on a very individual level. Her personal health has improved because she feels safe. There is consistency, understanding of dementia behavior, and a truly loving staff. We feel so luck to finally have what works for us. What you see really is what you get. Most sincerely, Sarah V. I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

It has almost been a year since I placed my husband at Country House. The experience has been very emotional because I was the sole caregiver prior to having to place him in a memory care facility. I think that Country House is very unusual in that it is truly a family-oriented facility and the staff tries extremely hard to include their residents' families in so many activities. When I go to visit my spouse, I feel like I am always welcome no matter what time of day, and I feel as if it is my second home. All the caregivers and staff welcome me with hugs and are truly happy to see me as well as some of the other residents. We are all one big family!! If there is one thing that we can work on it's our communication skills. I'm sure this is something that needs to be addressed in most care facilities, and that is making sure all those in charge of care are on the same page in understanding all the variables that need to be addressed in the day-to-day care of each resident. I think it would be helpful if I had a regularly scheduled monthly appointment with a staff member to discuss my husband's care in detail. Another suggestion that came up recently was that it might be really beneficial for the families of Alzheimer's patients to learn more about Hospice and how they can interact and help not just in the last days but as the disease progresses. Hopefully Country House could sponsor a session to learn more about what Hospice can offer to help Alzheimer's patients as well as their families.
