I visited this facility

The community of Lakewood Gardens was very clean and very nice. The person who gave us a tour was very, very knowledgeable and answered our questions. They prepared a folder with all the information, which is something that I hadn't seen in other communities. They were just very accommodating and very thorough. The people were friendly, very willing to answer questions and help. We were impressed with the community. It's huge. You wouldn't think that way from looking at it from the outside. They had a salon/haircuts, crafts, and nice spaces for outside.

I visited this facility

The people that work at Lakewood Gardens memory care were nice, easy to deal with, and seemed very professional. What I didn't like about it was some of the areas where most of the people were sitting didn't smell very nice. I think people talk about that. It didn't seem quite as nice inside as in the other places. I didn't meet very many of the staff, I just met the person who runs the place and she was fine. They had a kind of a patio. They also had an activity room where everybody was during my visit and it seemed like there were a lot of people in a small area. There was no one out there on the patio and it was OK, but it wasn't nice, by any means too. It didn't look like they'd kept it up as much as they could. Some of the sliding screens on the outside, for people going to the patio, were off track and kind of bent up. It just didn't look like they've taken great care of the place. It seemed clean but the upkeep on the outside didn't look quite as good, and the patio on the inside didn't look quite as good either. It's kind of an industrial feeling with its long hallways but you can't do anything about that. It just feels a little cold maybe. It's a good location because it's pretty close to where we are at. There are restaurants very near it and also a hospital, Kaiser, right there.

Lakewood Gardens Alzheimer's & Dementia Care was a very nice place. Unfortunately, my mother was only there for 10 days because she passed. The staff was super nice, and they're very well in tune with dementia. My experience with them was just great for that type of experience. Becky, the community relations person was excellent. She was only there for 10 days but it was excellent. The communication with the staff is excellent. She was in quarantine, so we weren't able to see her but the staff called me and communicated with me daily about her care. It's an older facility, but very clean and well-maintained. We saw the dining room and it looked great but because of Covid, her meals were brought to her room. They had a nice activity room and when I went to go pick up her belongings, they had several residents in the activity room. In looking at other facilities, I think they have the average pricing so they weren't any less expensive or more expensive than the others. They are very interested in their residents and we had a really lovely experience with them. My mom was there for St. Patrick's Day and she did not have anything green so her caretaker borrowed something from somebody else so that she would have something green on that day, which I thought was excellent. The staff and employees were just great. I would call as many as 4 times a day and never was I ever told not to call. I was always given an update on her.

My grandfather moved in to Lakewood Gardens and so far everything has been pretty good. They have pretty good staff there and they keep us informed. They call us on the phone letting us know when things happen or what's going on. They take care of everything, they do transport, medication, clothing, and everything to minimize your worries. There were a couple of hiccups here and there, but it's not the end of the world. The atmosphere and surroundings seem to be pretty good. They have an outdoor patio that every single room is connected to. So every person living there has a sliding door, so they can go out to the patio to get some air or light. The place itself is really nice and they keep it really clean. They have common rooms like TV rooms where people can gather. In terms of safety, it's very secure. It's not like the most luxurious place I have seen, but it's nice, clean, safe and simple. For the rate that we're paying for the shared room, I would say that it's good value.

I was introduced to Lakewood Gardens in December and went to visit the facility before I moved my Mother who is diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer's. When I got there I was greeted by Cecca who made me feel so comfortable and expressed so much love, compassion and love for her residents. I cannot reiterate how happy I was once my Mom moved there. The place is so clean, the staff so caring, kind and compassionate with everyone. I have never seen a place that has so much love and compassion for their residents. From the administrator who helped me hang my mother's clothes in the closet, to Cecca who helped me carry boxes into my Mom's room, to Jeanie who went to the kitchen and brought me hot coffee when she heard me say that my coffee was cold. I really could not believe my eyes with such an incredible treatment. The nurses, Helita, Chris, and Joanna are so extraordinary and never fail to amaze me with their care and willingness to work with you. I am in awe. My Mom has been there for a month and a half and every time I go into her room, I find it clean, the bathroom spotless and her sheets changed on a regular basis. One day I came to the center and saw the cleaning crew shampooing the carpets in the hallways. I was in shock! Would you believe it? They even wash the wheelchairs that the residents occupy, weekly. This is the best place I have seen. I requested that a hand shower be installed in my Mother's bathroom. Nick, immediately bought it and installed it. I am so grateful to all the administrators, nurses, caregivers, staff and cleaning crew there. THANK YOU!

I ended up choosing Lakewood Gardens for my mom. I chose it because they deal with Alzheimer's, and dementia patients. It was more like of an assisted living, so it was not a very good fit for my mom because she needs 24/7 care. They kind of made it sound like it was going to be like that, but once I got her in there, it was more like assisted living. We had to really demand things. The staff is pretty good even if they are not always on the same page.

Provider Response

Lakewood Gardens is a non-medical, assisted living, specializing with Alzheimer's and various dementias. We encourage our residents to participate in activities designed to meet group and individual needs beginning 9:00am to 7:30pm daily. Lakewood Gardens does not provide one to one care without family and friends participation but, our designated staff members provide assistance with daily living such as bathing, dressing and grooming, feeding and incontinency service. All staff members assist with supervision in our secured environment created for the memory impaired. Three nutritious meals and snacks are prepared by the dietary staff while environmental services ensure a safe clean living environment. Our wellness program monitors all residents on a 24 hour basis, along with the residents physician, nurse practitioner or medical professional who provide support to the designated Lakewood Gardens staff. Come by and meet us, take a tour and discuss our services.

I visited this facility

Lakewood Gardens was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. Their walk-through was very informative. It was just costs too much. If it wasn’t for the price, I would definitely place my mom there. They showed me a double room, which is like $3,600 and a private room, which is like $4,500 a month.

My husband was admitted to the hospital for dehydration when I took him out of Lakewood Gardens. They did not give my husband water I guess for four days. My husband moved there for four days, and when I went to get him, he wasn't talking, and he wasn't eating. He was doing nothing, and he wasn't like that when I dropped him off. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take their loved ones there. My husband was there for four days, and he couldn't get any water. They said he wouldn't eat, so they gave him a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some crackers. Then they said he wouldn't sit up in his wheelchair. He was doing fine when I brought him. I had to take him to the emergency room, and they admitted him. I hadn't even called them back to tell them that my husband suffered a stroke. Apparently the staff was not working because how did my husband get dehydrated for four days and not get fed when I told them he needs to get fed? The rooms were OK when I got there, and everything was fine, but it didn't turn out fine with my husband.

My mom is in the dementia and Alzheimer's section of Lakewood Gardens. Of all the ones I've visited, this one is fine. It's close to the house. The staff is really great. They take really good care of the people. They know everybody by name, even the people who come and visit. The rooms are clean; they're not crowded. We ate there during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Food was OK. They have a lot of activities too. When I bring up something, they take care of it, like an issue with her diet.

I picked Lakewood Gardens for my father because of the proximity to my house and the price range. It was also specifically built for seniors with Alzheimer's and dementia. The staff were caring. They interacted with the residents and helped without hesitation. There were also activities in the facility. My dad was always clean when I visited. His room could accomodate two persons. It was pretty big. I haven't tried the food but it seemed great.

My mother recently passed away. She had lived a Lakewood Garfens for over three years. It was always clean. They were always baking cookies or bread and the building always smelled good. My Mom was never bored--she loved playing ball with the nerf hoops and loved holding the puppies. At the end, she enjoyed the sensory stimulation of the smells and touch. The staff was awesome and very attentive. They were very persistent in reaching the doctor and actually identified some problems that we, the family, would have missed. I would recommend Lakewood Gardens to anyone looking for an Alzhiemer's center.

I visited this facility

This place is dirty and smells like urine. The caregivers are really nice but the administrator is mean to her staff, she treats them so badly they are scared of her. The scary part is the administrator and her assistance jeanie(who speaks English very badly) think they are doctors and interfere with pts care at time

Lakewood Gardens is just five minutes from my house. It is a dementia and Alzheimer's facility, and they will do respite care for anyone and for whenever you need it. The people there are exceptionally nice and very caring. It's not quite as modern but it's not subpar at all. The food is good, too. I took my daughter there and she was extremely pleased with it. It's all private pay, but very affordable. I would recommend this facility.

I visited this facility

I have visited this facility many times and am most impressed with it. It is a secured, assisted living facility for Alzheimer's/Dementia patients. They have wander guard on the door, resident's wear bracelets and the alarm will go off - if a patient trys to get out. It is clean and decorated tastefully. The Administrator is very nice and demonstrates a compassionate attitude toward the resident's. I attended a family BBQ Hawaiian Luau there and all the staff were dressed in Luau attire as well as the families/resident's. It was so fun, a very uplifting experience for everyone. They have a baby nursery set up for the resident's to rock/nuture baby dolls - feed and dress them. They have a laundry/chore room where resident's can fold/separate laundry - will a mock iron/ironing board. The down side to this facility is that it is on a buysy boulevard which can be noisy. There is a nice shopping center accross the street with restaurants as well. I would highly recommend this facility.
