I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband has been at Ashley Gardens for two years, and I can’t say enough about the staff. Everyone there from the director to the maintenance staff knows the residents by name and greet them cordially. It’s obvious that they truly care for the residents as they treat them with dignity and respect. I am pleased with the facility and the care and find the rooms adequate. I love that they have a variety of activities throughout the day as well. The only time I have found a smell of urine was directly after a resident had an accident and cleaners were on the way to clean up. Not much you can do about that… Highly recommend!

I visited this facility

I walked into Ashley Gardens, and the entire place smelled like urine. All of the residents were just sitting in chairs, and the ones that I could see were in dirty Depends. You could see the urine stains coming through their pants. It did not look like they were well cared for. I only saw one staff member for about 15 residents there. It's supposed to be one of the best in that area, and I wouldn't recommend it. It is a specified Alzheimer's unit.

My wife of 50 years has dementia and requires full time care. I could no longer care for her at home. After visiting several facilities my daughter and I chose Ashley Gardens. After 7 months there she is happy and content. She is always clean and well dressed when I visit. Her room and bath, as well as the entire facility is always immaculately clean. Her clothes are laundered regularly, and always neatly arranged in her closet. She loves the food. Kudos to the Executive Chef! The health care staff is very professional and coordinate all visits with her medical professionals and therapist. Finally the entire staff is wonderful! They seem to love my wife and treat her (and me when I visit) like a member of their immediate family. The directors have been tremendously supportive to me from day one and regularly send me photos and videos showing my wife enjoying the activities. I consider them not just business associates, but friends. Ashley Gardens greatly exceeds my expectations

My wife of 50 years had increasing dementia for 5+ years. I was her sole caregiver because our children and their families live in western USA and we have no other relatives in the area. My wife did not want to leave our home but accepted she could no longer care for herself, and I at my limit. After visiting several memory care homes our daughter and I chose Ashley Gardens. The private room and bath is spacious and well laid out. The cost is competitive and remains locked in for a calendar year. It turned out to be a wonderful choice! I accepted the advice of the directors to not visit for at least 30 days to give her time to acclimate and bond with her caregivers. It was very difficult for me, but excellent advice. She is now happy and content, and enjoys the activities, especially the music and dance. She also loves the food. Kudos to the Executive Chef! The facility is always immaculately clean and the caregivers are wonderful! My wife is always clean and well dressed when I visit. The caregivers seem to really love her and it shows! They treat her, and me, like we are members of their immediate family.

My loved one has been at Ashley Gardens for almost three months. She was welcomed warmly by the staff, and they have provided exceptional and compassionate care for her (and for our family). Samantha provided valuable guidance through the transition to memory care. Kenyatta and the nursing staff are very sensitive and caring. Jenna and the other activities leaders maintain a full calendar of creative activities. Activities include fun trips away from the facility, travelogues, and hands on crafts and cooking. The food is very good and the facility is clean and pleasant (currently undergoing some upgrades). My loved one has a spacious private room in which we placed familiar furniture, pictures, etc. from home. Stephanie is a gifted administrator who is fully engaged in the community she leads. All of the staff are very accessible and communicate regularly with me. I could not be more pleased with Ashley Gardens and I give thanks daily for the wonderful people there.

From move in, my mother was placed purposely with a roommate to balance both residents. This approach was most impressive as my mother immediately connected a loving companionship. The rooms were more than accommodating. My interactions with the staff were open, loving, attentive, warm, down to earth and welcoming. A very Godly group from top to bottom. Each time I visited there was an activity in progress. Regardless of a resident's condition they participated. The coordinator knew how to connect with each resident.

My father is living in the Ashley Gardens Memory Care & Transitional Assisted Living right now and they have been awesome. He's been there for a little over a year now. The staff has been very attentive and it's one of the cleanest memory care places I've been in. They have a lot of activities for them as well, he enjoys the pet therapies with the cats and dogs. They do a lot of family activities, they had a Christmas program, a Hawaii-themed program where they do meals to bring the families in, and they do singing where everyone can get together. They also do normal stuff like bingo and arts and crafts. I haven't had any issues with the safety at all. When it comes to food, they have a Mediterranean-based diet.

I visited this facility

Ashley Gardens was a beautiful place. They showed us the room where they meet and play games. They showed us the hallway where all the seniors kind of gather in and it looked nice. The staff during the tour was nice. The rooms are confusing though. It's like large, queen large, and super queen large, and his description of pricing was very ambiguous. Other than that, he was great at talking about the facility and talking about the length of time certain people have been there. The new CEO came out of her office and greeted us. The rooms were pretty large, and had big closets and high ceilings. They're just very expensive for what you get. It doesn't look like there's any place for them to go outside. There wasn't a courtyard. It seems a little bit dark on the inside. It's like a bar. It was really old with red cloth furnishings on the wall and stuff like that. It was very old school. They had a big room with a stage in it and chairs and high ceilings.

I visited this facility

There wasn't much space in Ashley Gardens memory care for a memory person to walk around, at all, if you could do it. It also didn't seem to have too many activities for them to do. The residents are all out in one room and look like they should be in bed or they could fall over in a chair so I just didn't like that place. It costs too much money for the studio apartment too and even if you get an apartment, you still have to share a bathroom with somebody, which I didn't think was fair. They want $5900 and you still have to share a bathroom. The staff that assisted me during the tour was fine. It's just that the rest of the place was kind of depressing, to me. The staff was very friendly, they spoke to me, and everybody looked like they were doing their jobs. The neighborhood looked fine as well.

I visited this facility

I visited Ashley Gardens in Charleston. It seems to have everything the residents needed for a memory care unit as well as the atmosphere to keep them comfortable in going through the rest of their time. The staff was very into making sure that my mom is going to be OK and safe, and they understand the needs of memory care. The outside looks basic, the inside is better. Everything that they need is in there, and it gives you a very homey feel.

Ashley Gardens is a respite and memory care center and it is absolutely amazing. The staff cared, was really dedicated, and the director was very easily accessed. She helped us with my mom's situation and she knew exactly what to do. She was amazing. Her room was lovely and spacious, and she had a large California queen bed. It was set up more like a hotel. Even the decorations on the wall were from older times. It felt very royal. They had bios of each person's life with a beautiful picture of them outside their door so you knew they were more than just elderly patients and that they did amazing things. They did a lot there. They went out to O'Charley's and they have a salon. The lady did wonderfully and she got all of my mom's cradle cap and she looked gorgeous. I saw her doing puzzles. She had a blast there. The food was really good. It's on the pricey side, but it is a great value. They had her therapies perfect, which included OT and PT.

I visited Ashley Gardens, and the environment was beautiful, open, and airy. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable. The residents can roam if they want to, and they have lots of activities to keep them engaged. My mom stayed there for respite care. They helped me step by step and walked me through the process of getting my mother there.

Ashley Gardens is too small. There are very few people in the dementia care. It's really a small group of people. No activities seem to be done in the dementia care. It just didn't seem really geared for the memory care population. It's really geared for the assisted living. I would not consider it a memory care facility.

Ashley Gardens Alzheimer's Special Care Center is a very nice place. It's open, airy, has double beds instead of twin beds, which is good, they've got very nice and clean semi-private and joint rooms, and they’ve got very good staff. They have good meals, and they’re still hiring people so they're going to be staffed up a little bit better. They had a bunch of people starting yesterday and so far, I'm very pleased with it. They have activities at least 3 or 4 times a day. They do word association for memory care, a lot of singing, Bingo, outings, arts and crafts, and chair exercise. The place is brand new, and my mom is staying there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My relationship with Ashley Gardens is, of course, fairly short term considering that they only opened to residents this summer. This is the fourth facility my mother has been in and thus far I am very happy with the care she is receiving. I cannot speak for the rest of my family so these observations are totally my own. Ashley Gardens is light and cheerful in all areas, including the rooms. There are different rooms for activities and several outdoor areas which seem very pleasant and safe. The dining room is pleasant and the food seems to be of good quality. The building is laid out in a circular nature, all hallways connected, and is very good for Alzheimer's patients who may wander and get confused about their location. I have visited on different days and at varying times and always found adequate staff on duty. The staff is very interactive with both residents and family members and seem to be well trained. Planned activities seem well attended by staff and are of a nature that helps residents stay involved, such as making pizzas and banana pudding. Recently, I visited just before lunch and the staff brought my mother's lunch outside so we could have a picnic. Placing a loved one in an assisted living facility is a difficult decision to make, but based on my experience with Ashley Gardens, residents are clean, happy and safe.

I visited this facility

The rooms were small at Ashley Gardens, the closet space was smaller, and they didn’t have as much space to go out. The 1-bedroom unit was setup different. It felt like a home to me.
