My mom is currently in Arbor Terrace Fairfax. It's all memory care and all of the staff are very responsive, very accessible, and very prompt in returning phone calls. The activities staff is excellent too. The physical layout is an open concept so it's very light and bright. All of the rooms, the majority of the rooms open out just across the hall from the open concept activities area so it's easy for the residents to find their way over to the room because it's right across the hall and it's all open. They have an excellent calendar of activities all day long. They have very good quality food. They make sure and get all of the residents out of their rooms and invite them and encourage them to participate in the activities. They can have activities catered to different levels of dementia or memory care needs. They will divide up into small groups and have some activities for a more advanced level of memory loss versus people who are not able to do that activity. They have them doing something else. Another thing about this facility is that they have it divided into parts. There are two parts of the building, one for early dementia or early memory care needs, and one for more advanced memory care needs. That is a positive thing about this place, to be able to divide the levels of the residents and cater the activities to them.

My father was at Arbor Terrace Fairfax. They were very much aware of getting them all involved in the community. If they were in their room, they would make sure they would go and get them and bring them out into the area. If they didn't know or realize activities were going on, they would make them aware of the activities and bring them out to be social. If they want to stay in their room, they would then go back and check on them. They each have individual care. They have a person that was their person. That person would be responsible for checking on them during the day, helping them get ready in the morning, and helping them shower. Of course, everybody was responsible for them, but they had one-on-one care with a caregiver. That was good. Everyone was looking out for them, but they had one person that was caring for them a lot. So it worked out well. It was always very well taken care of. It was all open. The members would come out into the open area, which is a living room, where all the activities were held. There was the main area, a cafeteria where they would all eat, and then there was a private area with a piano. If some people wanted to talk privately, there was an area over there. There is the main area where they would have a TV. They have tables for some people who wanted to do puzzles. They have a little porch area where they could go to sit out. They would have to have someone go with them. Family members at that time were able to come. Even through COVID, there was COVID regulation, family members were welcome, and they could take their family outside in the fenced-in area. They could also take their family members out of the community versus ongoing regulations, but you were free to come. Their laundry was taken care of, and their medications were taken care of. It was very well maintained and very well organized. They all love their job, and they all love the members of the community. The staff was excellent. I think they did a very good job with the physical appearance of the place. For the seasons, they would decorate outside and inside. They were taking care of that. They had a very good activity menu, and they were always getting the members involved. The activities director was always getting the members involved and trying to include them and I thought that was a very good meeting.
