Interactions with staff were less than acceptable. The room was clean. Food was average. I would not recommend this facility for you loved ones last days. There was a general lack of communication and empathy with the personnel.

My in-laws moved here recently. They are from out of town, and were concerned about fitting in "with all the old people" and making new friends. Turns out that their neighbors really reach out to them regularly to invite them to the many events and happenings on the campus. They love it here, and are so thankful that we talked them into moving here. Lots of great events on campus and off, lovely welcoming residents and staff, and a sweet little home with vaulted ceilings, a patio entrance, and plenty of outdoor areas for their dog.

I do not recommend Tacoma Lutheran Home at all. They are planning on demolishing where we are living without any retribution. The maintenance is very poor and short-handed. There are about 58 work orders for things that they're supposed to replace or repair in the apartments, and they're just working our main maintenance man to death. There's a lot of activities available for the residents, they have art lessons of different sorts, and they have a bus that takes us once a week to get groceries. It's an aging-in-place community, so aside from independent living, they also have assisted living and an Alzheimer's unit.

Although the building is older the apartments are well maintained. Staff members are very caring and try very hard to be supportive of residents. My only complaint in the 6+ years I have lived here is the food, which is very unsatisfactory. Highlights of TLRC start with the pastoral of nature of the campus, lots of trees, open spaces and even a tiny wilderness area. We also have a well equipped arts center with everything from a woodworking with all kinds of power tools to a ceramics workshop with a kiln. Our fitness center has a pool and a well equipped workout room. There are also a variety of classes, for a range of different abilities.

I was a patient on the Rehab hall from March 24 through May 5, 2016. I have not one complaint about any staff member. The food was ok...but I realize it's difficult to cook large quantities. And snacks were always there for the asking. The therapy staff were fantastic. They worked hard to get me going again. If I needed a place to recoup...I'd come back in a heartbeat!

Run away! They do not take responsibilty for their neglectful care. It is not the caregivers/nurses that are the problem, it is the lack of them. The bedding is ragged. The tv remotes change any tv, so it is an all day battle with the room mate over tv specifics. It is this way in the entire facility, and the endemic is caused by greed. They claim to be a charity, and they claim to be Christian, but judging by the way they treat their customers and employees, I would have to say they are good at talking the talk, but not so good at walking yet. I looked their numbers up online, being a non-profit, and I was shocked. That is how I realized that the dirty, understaffed environment was caused by greed. The food was unpalatable, and I'd say, it was one of the better things about the place.

My mother and father stay at Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community and though mom passed away, my father is still there. We like the place a lot. They are awesome. I like the cleanliness of the place, the caregivers and the care that they give. I also like their professionalism. They offer all sorts of things and I do recommend them to others.

I think the staff were overworked. They barely had time to do all the things that were necessary. I also feel that the owners of the place should be in their to see that some of the residents were sat outside their rooms to wait for someone to help them to the dining room, and some were out there for a long time. The staff was very nice, but not so professional.

The staff seemed very positive and committed to providing a healthy, enjoyable stay at the community. There were many activities and social gatherings to keep the retirees busy. When speaking to a current resident, he told me he was more busy than he had been his entire life with all the activities. Throughout the facility it was very evident that a lot of work had been put into making the residents feel at home.

I visited Tacoma Lutheran Home and Retirement Community when my husband's grandmother was having issues related to her emphysema. She came there after two weeks in the hospital to rehabilitate. She was having a pretty hard time recovering, but luckily ended up at Tacoma Lutheran. The building and grounds are super clean and attractive, and every staff member we saw had a smile on their face. They made an effort to remember the names of the family coming to visit, and treated my grandmother-in-law (who can be difficult at times) like she was their own family.94 One of the nurses in particular was in the family's good graces after Grandma J. had a tiff with her roommate, and she stepped in to settle things. The short and long term residents look well cared for and pretty happy, and I think this would be a good choice for elderly people or their families who think they might like to live with more help. They took great care of Grandma J. and she is back keeping the whole neighborhood on it's toes!

Overall, I have a positive view of the retirement facility. The resident's themselves in the apartment complex seemed to happy and content-though naturally, there were exceptions, as some of the residents appeared to feel lonely. And generally, the staff seemed to care for the residents. Many of the dietary workers became close acquaintances with the residents, and made them feel comfortable and at home. The cooks would be very good at making food suitable to the resident's dietary needs. The Nursing Assistants were generally very caring. However, some of the Nursing Assistants seemed to be impatient with some of the residents. But even so, such can be seen as a natural occurrence in human interaction. I never recalled witnessing any instances of neglect or privacy violations on part of the nurses, nor have I witnessed any real "rudeness" on part of the nurses or nursing assistants. The staff in general were very helpful toward the residents. The food being served to the residents is also generally good; at least, most of the residents liked the food most of the time. And during meals, there was always more than one option to choose from, and the staff was accommodating to the dietary needs and desires of the residents.

Great staff, kind, considerate. Residents share common values of respect and care to each other. My friend liked the food in the assisted living center.
