The physical appearance of Sun Towers Retirement was very good. They seemed to have a lot of activities. I was invited to a Cinco de Mayo day that they had there. It was very nice. The apartments were very nice. They were a little busy because it was an activity day, so the only thing I would say is the other facilities I saw contacted me and are still contacting me, but I did not hear back from Sun Towers Retirement. The meals seemed fine. It was very nicely done and there's plenty of it. They had walking tacos, which was very interesting, but it was nice. They also had a Mariachi band, which was very nice, too.

My mother will be moving into Sun Towers Retirement. Other communities were like all or nothing. She kind of needed something in-between independent and assisted. The fees were really high for assisted. It included things like bathing, dressing, eating, and assistance, and she doesn't need any of that. At Sun Towers, you can add things on. If you have someone that's independent and needs help with their medication, you can just pay for medication administration. I liked the fact that the building isn't super big, so it's not overwhelming. Everything is in one building for her, and she doesn't have to go outside to do anything. Everyone that we met was super friendly and welcoming. They took time to answer questions. I didn't feel like we were rushed or anything. In particular, I've been working with Laura since the beginning, and she's kind of been walking me through everything. She sent me information on pricing and all the services. All the staff have been great. They have a library, a chapel, a theater room, activity room, a little tavern like a bar area, and an entertainment area. They have outside seating to eat. It faces the water, so it's really secluded back there. There were lots of trees. They have a heated outdoor pool and grill area. We went into the activities center. We got to see some of the things they were working on, like painting and stuff, but I didn't see anyone actively participating. They have a calendar of events to show what goes on every day and at what time.

I moved into Sun Towers Retirement. It offers three meals a day and it doesn't cost you anything other than your rent. It's got a pond and you can go fishing in it. It has entertainment on Tuesdays and Fridays. People come in and sing songs and do entertainment like that, it's got bingo that a lot of people go to, it's got a movie theater in it, a little library where they can check books out, and it's got a beauty salon also. It has little busses that take you to about any place you want to go to within ten miles of the center. Wal-Mart is a mile and a half away. It's a golf cart community also. You got a designated parking space. The food is pretty good and it has quite a variety. It has chicken and small spare ribs. You can order different things if you don't like what's on the menu. I'm in here for independent living. They have a studio apartment, which I live in, and they have one- and two-bedroom apartments. It has an in-house rehab facility. It's got everything I want (banks, grocery store, Winn-Dixie is just next door). The staff is all pretty friendly. They talk to you, and even the maintenance people, if you need something, you ask them and they'll get it for you. Some people who move on will donate a lot of their furniture and stuff. If you move in and you need something, you can ask them if they have it and they will get it. They have a housekeeping service. They come in and clean your apartment for you. You don't have to do it yourself. They have laundry facilities. You can do it yourself or you can leave the plastic bag outside your door and they will come and do your laundry. I'm kind of a picky eater and there are some veggies that I don't like, but they offer a variety of stuff like squash and turnip greens once in a blue moon and corn. The food is good. I like it better than some hospitals I've been in recently. They cook it well. There's nothing that comes out tasting bad. They have a lot of activities. They offer church on Sundays. They offer cable TV that you pay extra for. They have a front desk with a person there almost all the time up until about 8:00 at night and maintenance or somebody takes over. They lock the front doors at night, but they have a medical facility and that door is always open 24 hours a day, so they always have a way to get in. Besides the key, they do offer QR to get in the front door.

My 3 weeks at Sun Terrace post knee surgery far exceeded my expectation. The food is great and the nurses, CNAs and other employees was beyond exceptation. I highly recommend all. Many thanks for making my recovery so pleasant.

I've chosen Sun Towers Retirement for the price. It was $1,000 less than the other place. It's very, very nice. It is a seven-story high rise. I've got a two-bedroom, two-bath, which is very nice. You have a choice of carpet or plank flooring, and I had to pay for the plank flooring and the paint. The staff seemed very nice and very helpful. They offer three meals a day, weekly housekeeping, and laundry service. They change your bed and they do the linens and the sheets and stuff. You have to do your own personal laundry and there are facilities on each floor. The food was very good. I'm going into the independent living, but you just can't say, "Oh, I'm independent or I need assisted living." You have to be screened by the director as well as the director of nursing to make sure that you are independent versus assisted. I can stay in the same apartment if I go from independent to assisted. I don't have to move. I can stay right there until I need higher care after assisted. They have a nursing home and memory care there. I have a full kitchen and it's got tons and tons of storage. In the two-bedroom, there are two walk-in closets, another large closet, a linen closet, and a front hall closet.

My mom is moving into Sun Towers Retirement tomorrow. The size of the studio was very large in comparison to the other ones that I looked at. And it also had a full-size refrigerator and a kitchen sink and cabinets in the studio. That was 432 square feet. I think the main reason, besides the size of the unit that we went there was the cleanliness of the facility, and that my mom needed congregate care. So they were able to provide the kind of care that she needs there. And that was the main determining factor, as opposed to some of the other places I looked at. The staff was great. My mom is staying at Sun Terrace, the rehab facility that she's in, and it's connected to Sun Towers, and it's the same kitchen, they use the same kitchen staff for the rehab and the assisted living. She had a delicious salmon dinner the other night. It was a great dinner. It was better than some restaurants do.

I went through Sun Towers here in Sun City Center. Their assisted living would have been lovely, but they thought my sister-in-law needed memory care, which was locked down with no courtyard or anything for her to smoke. It ruled it out. I toured the assisted and memory care. The assisted living facility looked very nice. I was not as happy with the memory care from the standpoint that there's no open courtyard or anything for the residents to be outside. They're kind of locked in this wing, and it was scary to me. I really had reservations about leaving her there. The staff was very good. It's just that they did not take the Medicaid waiver. Also, if she did memory care, then there was no smoking. There was no allowance for them to go outside or to have any time outside that I knew of. It's a nice facility. If I had to go, I wouldn't mind going there. The rooms were beautiful. My sister-in-law was very happy with it. She wanted to go there. In fact, she said to me yesterday, "What happened to that room you showed me with a big closet?" I just was blunt with her and I said, "We can't afford it. They don't take your waiver." It had a beautiful view. They have a lake behind the facility. She would have been a mile and a half from us, but we have to do what we have to do. We're going to help her some, but I couldn't do $3000 or $4000 a month. Their dining area was lovely and very nice, but I did not try the food.

FEARS LAID TO REST My Aunt is a resident and she can't say enough about this place. While she can be tough to please, she was happy that it was so clean, and she loved their bedside manners. Most of all she feels safe and at home here which lays all my fears to rest. I can't tell you how comforting that is when I have to leave there and head home. Thank you so much! We are blessed
