I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

During this unsettling Covid 19 outbreak, I have to give kudos to the management and all employees for putting safety measures into place in a timely manner. Thank you for being proactive in an attempt to keep the residents healthy. Your hard work is very much appreciated. As a daughter, I sleep better knowing my mother is at the El Dorado. A home she loves!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We had my Mom residing here for almost three years, until I decided to move her closer to me. I really hated to have to move my Mom from here, because I thought this place was great. The staff is caring and helpful. They are not an assisted living facility, but they do have nurses on duty around the clock. My Mom needed there services a number of times, a few times. They are right across the street from Boswell Hospital, and she is a cardiac patient. Being that close to their ER was a big plus when she was adjusting to being on BP meds. They offer transportation services, so if someone is getting to the point where they probably should not drive, the transportation staff is very professional, and handled by in-house staff. I have never had a bad meal there, the dining services are good, and the folks there are sweet. I miss them. (I used to fly out once a month to visit my Mom). Regarding the bad review I noticed, I will say this. It is a typical CO-OP setup. The HOA fees are still there, still need to be paid, even if the unit is empty. This is no different from any other CO-OP or Condo community I have heard of. If you are looking at El Dorado for short term, (less than five years) then I would say wait until a rental unit becomes available. A lot of folks, if they have stayed there long enough, just sign their condos back over to the HOA at the end of their stay, so their heirs do not have to pay the HOA fees while waiting until the place sells. Once someone has been there about eight years, depending on your purchase price, it is cheaper than renting. As long as you live there long enough, it is a great value. Selling these units can be difficult in a down market. Also, the units that face the courtyard and the lake on the backside of the property sell more quickly. they tend to cost more, but, might be worth it to get a unit with a better view.

I am/was a resident of this facility

El Dorado of Sun City haseverything I want. It's pleasant and friendly. It's got 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments for purchase. It's not a rental place although you can lease some, but it's mostly buy-in. It's a quite nice place and it's just right for me. The staff provided typical services and they have an on-duty nurse 24/7. The dining room is nice and the food is excellent. The prices are quite reasonable. They have plenty of nice activities and ongoing educational programs. It's a very nice place and I'd recommend it to anybody.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is in an apartment complex called El Dorado of Sun City. It doesn't have assisted living. It's just basically a senior apartment. They have nurses on duty who can make decisions. For example, he has fallen a couple of times. He has one of those medical guardian buttons and pushes that and then the people from the apartment complex will come up and help him. They have a lot going on. They have book clubs, card groups, and programs like Christmas programs, but he doesn't participate in a lot of that. He was there with my mother, but she passed away about 18 months ago. He was more independent before she passed, but now he's less independent. All three meals are available every day, but with a 30 meal ticket a resident can chose which meals they would like. Everybody comes down with a walker, but they put them away in another room so you don't see any of that while you're eating. You order off a menu like a restaurant and they have a basic menu as well as daily specials. The wait staff is very good. He's got a small kitchen with regular sized appliances. It's supposed to be like a 2-bedroom, but whoever had it before made the second bedroom into a dining room, so it's a 1-bedroom with a bath in it and then it has a little living room and then next to it is the dining area. He has a bookcase and a table in there and then there's another bathroom off of that dining area. It's a nice sized apartment and the building. The staff is very good. The facility is very nice and large and has just been remodeled. The only drawback is you don't want to be three miles from the dining room where you have to walk. There's only one dining room and it's big, but some of the people have to walk quite far to get there. When my father got there you had to buy in, but about six months after that, they allowed people to rent, and it's going to be a problem when we go to sell. He pays $2,100 a month for the meals and activities, and they have vans that take residents to the doctor or to the grocery store.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I would give this place a zero if it were possible. You need to be aware that when your parents/family member purchases an apartment in the El Dorado, eventually an heir will be on the hook for the outrageous HOA fees until the apartment is resold. For many families, that is well over $1000. If you notice, there are consistently many apartments for sale at a given time. They will be aggressive with you until you enter a contract with them, but then it is too late and they do not want to hear from you again!!!! . Please do your research when buying there.

I visited this facility

My mom will be moving at El Dorado of Sun City. We chose this place because their amenities were very good. The cost was very acceptable. Their rooms were of adequate size and really nice. The buildings are nice, and everything is kept clean. They have a bus that takes the residents to doctor's appointments, churches, mall, pharmacies, or wherever. They also organize games, and they have a library.
