Rockwood South Hill was a wonderful place. There were a lot of things I loved about it. They were on several acres so the landscaping was beautiful and they had homes that people could have there. The food options were wonderful. They even offered a lot of special food to try to eat, like dairy-free meals, etc. So, that was a real plus. We saw people walking around and coming down. Everybody was happy. They got beautiful facilities. There are a lot of places for groups to gather and a lot of room to visit. They had a lovely dining room and patio outside. The person that took us around and the people from the office were all very friendly and very nice. The only negative thing about our tour was we only saw one room and somebody just moved out of there, but they said they were going to remodel it.

Rockwood South Hill has houses there. People live in their houses, but they don't have to worry about maintenance because they take care of everything. We also looked at one of the assisted living homes and it was OK. It needs a fresh coat of paint and then it'd be OK. The independent living is called The Summit, and that's their new building. It's like living in New York where you live in a building and everybody's got an apartment type of thing. They had more activities and opportunities. They had more movies, and they had an up-to-date library. They had lots of places like a little bakery, a coffee shop, and a wine bar. I thought Mom would be happier in Rockwood, but she keeps telling me she doesn't want to go to Spokane. I was impressed with it. That was probably my first choice, but my mom's friends are all down in Kennewick. They had houses and duplex in one section of it. The Summit was the apartments and The Ridge was more of the assisted living part. The one-bedroom apartment had a living area, a kitchenette, a bathroom that's equipped for the handicapped, and a separate bedroom. They had a two-bedroom, but we didn't see it. We talked to the marketing consultant, and I also got to tour a house. It was like a three-bedroom, two-bath house. One of the things I liked about them was that when people move out, they completely update. If you buy into a house, you can do some of the customizations, too. It's a separate house, and they're all one level. What I liked about Rockwood is it's a nonprofit. Once you get in, you stay in, you don't have to worry about having to move. You might move within the complex, like going from a house to an apartment to assisted living, but they don't kick you out. They have TED talks, they bring in movies, they bring in musicians because they have a theater in there, they have different church services, a library, knitting groups, they have an art room where people do drawing and painting, and they have a wood shop there. They had four different restaurants, a coffee bar, a bakery bar, and they have some walking trails. They also offer group outings to the Spokane Symphony, the performing arts center, Fox Theater, and they also have a place for hairstyling and they do some physical exercises, too. They had book discussions. They also come in with wine tastings, yoga, and meditation. They practice tai-chi, water aerobics, and three card games I've never learned how to do, which are Bridge, mahjong, and Cribbage. I'm considering filling it out for me. The staff members during the tour were really good about showing me what was what. It was clean. It didn't stink like my grandmother's nursing homes did. They appear to keep up on their maintenance well. If there is a problem, they just get in and solve it as fast as they can.

Rockwood South Hill was a very nice community. Their facilities were very nice. There were many friendly people. The rooms were nice. The dementia units have their own showers, which was a nice plus. The residents can take a shower when they want to rather than having to wait for an aide to take them to the shower room. They had a medical van that rotated people to doctor's appointments, etc. Their transportation would take people out on outings and drive them around town just to look at different neighborhood just to get out. They had painting classes and some cooking. Rockwood South Hill would be a 5 if they could handle all facets of dementia but they can't. My husband was there because he had a broken tailbone and bladder infection at the time, so it wasn't necessarily memory care, but it was more medical.

My mother has moved into The Courtyard at Rockwood. We are happy with it. They have two dining areas. A lot of time they feed them when they're upset or agitated. They offer them some food to help them settle down. They do a lot of music, and they bring people in to play piano. There are times when they bring small animals in. They have taken Mother out on a care drive with a small group of people in a van. It was nice. My mother did not do well, but I like the fact that they took them out. The food is good. They can eat all they want. They seem to have a good selection, too. The staff is good.

Rockwood Retirement Community is gorgeous and beautiful. They just built a new tower that has seven new floors, and it starts with independent living. You could live in houses or apartments and it goes all the way through assisted living and Alzheimer's care if needed. We're going to move my mother-in-law this week. Everybody's been wonderful. They have great food, and the dining areas are beautiful. They have three different restaurants: formal, casual and the least casual one.

Rockwood's atmosphere is quite nice. My mother's room is wonderful. The food and the dining room are wonderful and restaurant-style. They have a whole variety of social activities. However, I don’t care for the social worker.

Rockwood Retirement Community was very nice. They were excellent. I highly recommend them. It was a lovely place for a senior. They had a beautiful dining room. They had lovely apartments in the main building, and they also had separate houses. It was probably one of the nicest retirement communities.

I have several friends who live at Rockwood South. The cost of that place was out of my league, so I didn't give a lot of consideration to it. However, it was really a lovely place. Their individual houses on their campus were quite large, which is why they're expensive. The grounds were kept up. There was a certain degree of independence, like for those who want to do a lot of gardening around their place, they are free to do that, or if they prefer to have a grounds keeper take care of it all, that's fine too. They also have a lot of activities. They have buses going on to all kinds of events in town. They have bridge club, exercise classes, book clubs, etc., whatever interests you. There was an art group where they put on an art show every year. Whatever kind of interest, there are enough of people to form a group out of, and they do that. I think that is just fine for those who can afford that kind of lifestyle. They do have different levels of care, and most of my friends have taken advantage of all of those levels.

The facility was always very clean and tidy, they kept it well maintained, especially the gardens outside. In addition the dining hall was decorated festively for the season, and the servers were always very friendly and well mannered. They took very good care of our family friends, and the staff there were more than willing to make any necessary accommodations. The only negative comment I have is that during our visit last christmas both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms of the main building were closed due to flooding... but things like that are expected to happen even with the best of facilities.Overa we have always been incredibly impressed with the facility. It offer residents a wide variety of activities and entertaiment to participate in. While we were there a live band was set to play, and military members from the nearby naval base came in to dance with the residents. It was a great experience and the residents kept talking about it for the next few days

Very clean environment, the residents seemed happy. The staff was very helpful and attentive, they'd call us within minutes of a resident needing help. The facility itself was really very nice. It looked more like a high end apartment complex than a retirement home. The resident's units were very nice. 2 or 3 bedrooms each, all very clean. The residents were allowed to have pets, which I think is helpful to the infirm. They had a very nice dining area, and a rec room with a big screen tv and plenty of activities. The residents are encouraged to interact with each other, and they seem to develop real friendships and relationships. Overall, it was the nicest facility I saw in Spokane. A lot of places just cram people into beds, and do the absolute minimum required by law. Rockwood seems to genuinely care about the happiness, welfare, and health of their residents.

My grandparents live at the Rockwood Retirement Facility in Spokane, WA. They love it there and I enjoy visiting. The grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is quite nice. The area seems safe and secure. The staff there is awesome. They always greet you with a "hello" and a smile. Even the cleaning people are friendly and chatty. Mostly, I enjoy how welcoming and home-like the place is. My grandparents love it there and feel that their dignity as individuals is not impeded. They get assistance when they require it but are not overly bothered. They food in the dining hall is very nice. They even have a French Chef. The only problem with this Chef is my Norwegian grandma says he makes crappy Lutefisk on Norwegian heritage day. Also, it doesn't smell weird like most retirement homes it just smells clean. I like the fact that they allow you many choices for your living situation there. They started in a house on the Rockwood grounds. In that situation, you can have someone drop by and help you lift heavy things, set up Christmas lights, etc. They then moved to the large apt. facility with their own private apartment but meals were provided for them. Grandma is now in the fully assisted living area and grandpa is in the memory care unit. He is able to visit her apt. and they spend a great deal of time together. They also have their meals together in the downstairs dining area. The quality of this place is unmatched. I feel that may grandparents are safe, well cared for, in a happy environment. Also, they have Rockwood representatives that assist you personally. They help you determine your level of care and help solve any issues that may arise. I have found these people to be very helpful, sincere, and capable.
