I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents moved to The Montecito Santa Fe. It is a very vibrant, open, and interesting community, because there's a lot of people who have had very extensive, interesting professional lives that are there. Given that the demographic is slightly younger and slightly older people, you get different levels of energy and engagement and conversation. They have nonstop different interest groups/things going on. There's a guy that used to work for NASA that talks with us about the things that they can track, like weather and satellites, and all sorts of stuff. There's a men's group and my dad, who's a physicist, was involved in that group. There's an amazing gym and my parents actually go up there to work out two times a day. They've got a trainer in there who specifically understands Parkinson's and can help do training associated with people with that kind of challenge to keep their body strong and agile. The meals are over the top. The only drawback I've ever seen is that sometimes they're short on kitchen staff. So, sometimes you can wait for a while for your meal to show up, but it's always really, really good food. I think that the staff is all really super genuine and caring. They really understand what's going on with people and continue to treat them as people.

What I like about The Montecito Santa Fe is how beautiful it is. It's set up very nicely. It's open, and there's more light. It was bright and very nice. They had nice facilities, like hot tubs and a big workout room. They had a lot to offer, and that's why they were full. I saw the people eating, and the food looked very good. They have a menu they pick from. They have a gym, a salon, and a library. They have all kinds of activities.

I am/was a resident of this facility

We're currently here at The Montecito Santa Fe. It is a very fine place. I would say it is one of the best in the city. We get good care, and we have nice and comfortable surroundings. We have a nice apartment separate from the facility with 2 bedrooms and a den, and it's comfortable. Food is good. We have several activities. We have a really beautiful gym because it was built by a tennis player. We have a very nice restaurant area, lounge area, and rooms for games, talks, and discussions. If I do have complaints, I talk to the director and he's very, very helpful and gets things fixed. The other thing I like about him is, because they are short on staff, I see him working the tables. The staff is very nice, and caring, and they communicate with you, say hello to you, and smile. I don't think we've run into a bad person yet.

We very, very much enjoyed our visit at the Montecito Santa Fe. It was thorough. The place was very clean, friendly, and encouraging for a satisfactory lifestyle. The person that gave us the tour was incredibly a great ambassador for the Montecito Santa Fe. Her name was Rachel and she went above and beyond. The apartments were large enough. They were clean and well designed. They're just great. We were very pleased with each of the dining areas, too. They have excellent maintenance. There's constant upkeep and they include the desires of the community in all their maintenance.

I have visited The Montecito Santa Fe and I fell in love with it. It has many advantages. I toured the independent side, but I will move into a place that will allow me to stay if I can no longer be independent. What's best is that there are several buildings. There are grounds to walk around on. You go out of your housing building and then walk a few blocks to get anywhere else. It's a neighborhood. It doesn't look like a hotel. There is a place to be outdoors. We were able to get into a couple of the buildings that were not occupied at the time, and I was very impressed. It seemed a completely livable place. I've seen others that are similar where you walk into the kitchen and then in front of the kitchen is the large room that will serve as the living room and dining room, and then off to the side is a bedroom and bath. They were about a thousand square feet. They were clean, neat looking, and nice. I feel completely comfortable living in a place like that. There were places to exercise. The staff during the tour was very nice, very friendly, and very impressive. I certainly have no objection to anything I saw.

I did a self-guided tour at The Montecito Santa Fe. That place was very nice as well as the layout. They had several activities scheduled like going into town for different things. One was going to the folk art museum. You just signed up for those. There were also on-site activities, like yoga and exercise classes in the fitness room. They have a pool and a spa where you could sign up for a massage. The man at the front desk was very pleasant. He answered some of the questions I had.

My parents are at The Montecito Santa Fe. I like the location. The transportation is really good for doctor visits. It is good if they need to go to a grocery store or whatever. It's a really clean facility, and they have a very polite staff. I want maybe just a little bit more variety in food and less chicken. There are other things you can order, but my mom's not a big chicken fan. Just about every meal, there's some sort of chicken. They're not really involved with a lot of activities, but I know there's a lot they offer there. They have basket weaving, exercise classes, card games, and movie nights. The cost for what we're receiving for independent living is really expensive, in comparison to some of the other facilities. One good thing about Montecito is it's set up more like an apartment complex for seniors, versus like hallways and kind of feeling closed in. I think their independent living facility is one of the best in Santa Fe, but it's really high price wise for just providing utilities and meals.

The Montecito Santa Fe seemed good, but mostly it was just food delivery and an apartment because of COVID. They didn't have any of the facilities available to us, but the food was OK. My father was there. The staff members were pretty responsive and very friendly. They would give us updates every week, and they also had some programs. The cleanliness and upkeep was passable. It's an older place but some of the rooms were nice. He was in a two-bedroom, which was OK, and it had clean carpet, a walk-in shower, and grab bars.

I went to visit a friend at The Montecito Santa Fe. That's the place that I would choose because you can have small homes, you have access to the neighborhood, but it's not like living in a hotel. The only complaint I have is you have to leave your unit to go to the kitchen/dining facility. They will bring your food to you, but there is no shelter between your unit and the dining room. I liked it very much. It's open, you can get out and walk outside your apartment, you can sit outside your apartment, it's adobe, and the façade is fine.

We toured the Montecito Santa Fe. The staff was very accommodating. We talked to the nurse, she was very helpful, and it didn't feel like an institution. They had a spa, a swimming pool, a hot tub, and nice restaurant that was open to the public. The whole place looked clean. We thought an RN on staff 24/7 for diabetes care was lacking.

I liked The Montecito Santa Fe a lot. It was so nice. Everyone was very cordial, and it had everything you could want. They play mahjong, card games, and so on. I looked at the independent living, but they do have assisted living as well if you need it later on. I'm having difficulty having to move, but this community would be my choice. The staff was very nice, and I think they were efficient and everything they should be. In the brief time I spent when visiting there, I had a good feeling about them. I didn't find anything objectable about any of them. The food was delicious, we had dinner there, and it was very good.

The Montecito Santa Fe is much more to my liking. It doesn't feel institutional. They have open areas. You can get out and walk around, and you can go sit out in the sun. You have to go over to that dining room to have your meal, so you are obligated to be outside more, and I think that's good. It is more of a resort feeling than it is institutional. We did have lunch there. It was very good. We did meet the guide, and she was wonderful. The villas are like little condos. They're 2-bedroom, 2-bath condos, with a little fireplace in the living room. Those are the most expensive units. We did go in several rooms. They were all well designed and had a more homey feeling.

The Montecito Santa Fe was really beautiful. The food was excellent. The outdoor dining was very nice. We were impressed with them. I liked that they had a gym with a guy dedicated to being a trainer there. He was very impressive. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The place was clean and bright. The only thing that I thought they could fix the bathroom; they did not have automatic door openers. For someone in a wheelchair, they could not come in.

I lived at The Montecito Santa Fe. I left there because it changed management and became more corporate. It was a very wonderful place to live, but when the new management came in, the whole place seemed to change. Most of the places on the grounds were condos, and they were only 15 facilities in the main building. The grounds were nice. The location was wonderful.

Provider Response

Lifehouse purchased The Montecito (AKA Rainbow Vision) a little over two years ago. At the time of purchase the community was at 36% occupancy, the restaurant was closed, the fitness center was closed & there was no activities program to speak of. Since Lifehouse took over the property they have put in over one million dollars in upgrades and maintenance to the property including the addition of a shuffle board court, putting green & billiards room. The exterior of all buildings were painted, the roads re-surfaced & the entire property was made handicap accessible. Currently there are less than a handful of independent apartments available for rent. The assisted living, which is 26 apartments, is full with a waiting list. We have amazing people running the Activity Department & our residents have a full calendar of outings and activities every month. We are the only community to have weekend & evening transportation hours so that our residents can get out & enjoy all Santa Fe has to offer. The fitness center is open & we are the only retirement community with a full time Fitness Director. We offer several different exercise classes including seated exercise, strength training & tai chi as well as one on one personal training. The Montecito was voted "Best Senior Community in New Mexico" & I encourage anyone who has not been to The Montecito recently to stop by and take a look. It is truly a beautiful and vibrant senior community.

I visited this facility

The Montecito Santa Fe was like a country club. It struck me as very resort-style and geared toward a person who is still fairly active. It wasn’t quite an assisted living facility but more toward independent living. The rooms were rather small and a little grim. Not all of them had large windows or overlooked the courtyard or parking lot. They didn’t seem to be a place where you would like to spend time. They have a restaurant, which is actually open to the public. Oddly enough, the community was not that expensive. The lighting was quite poor. It looked an old hotel, and the main rooms were rather dark, which I think was fine if your vision is good, but my mother’s vision is not good, so it was ruled out for that reason. I was only there for about two hours.
