My mother likes Timberhill Villa Retirement Community the best. It was great. Everybody was friendly. We were told a lot of information. I think what we like the most about them is their studio. It had half a wall separating it, so it wasn't altogether with the living room and the bedroom. It was kind of separate, so my mother felt like she had her own bedroom. They do a good job on upkeep. It looked pretty clean. It is an older building, but the staff reassured us that they don't have any problems with the owners fixing things that need to be fixed. They will put a little bit of money into the community. The staff who gave us the tour was amazing. She made it where I felt comfortable with leaving my mother because she interacted with people. She made it known that if she didn't see my mom for a lunch or a breakfast, she would be like, 'What's going on? Has anybody seen her?' It made me feel a little at ease. She was wonderful. We didn't try their food, but we checked their dining area. There wasn't anybody in there at that time, but it was spacious. If you want them to make you some dinner, you just have to pay a small price for it. Then you can take it to your room.

The apartment I saw at Timberhill Villa Retirement Community was exceptional. There's a twin-size bed in it, you could put a couch in it, your TV, and make a nice little setup with your refrigerator and a microwave. It was very upscale and I liked that. It was an older facility, but it was taken care of. Just seeing the different residents that were sitting, playing cards, playing dice, and having conversations, made me think that it would be the place that I would even choose for myself. You could tell that the staff wasn't there just for the paycheck, but because they cared for the residents. Everybody was very friendly. They have a lot of things to offer their residents. There were lots of places where they could get together and just sit down and have a conversation. We ran into a few gentlemen that were playing cards in their libraries as well as four ladies who were playing dice. It was just a very welcoming place. It was more of a homey feeling. They actually had a theme week that week. One day they had crazy hats, then another day was for crazy socks. It was based on something anybody could do.

We've visited Timberhill Villa Retirement Community. It's nice, their rooms have a microwave and refrigerator, it's very, very nice, clean, and spacious. They offer everything, they do bingo, movie night, trips to go to dinner, and a hair salon. They would also take your animals for a walk. It's fairly small but nice. My impression of the staff was very nice, and the residents loved it there.

We visited the Timberhill Villa Retirement Community. What I like best about it is that the grounds were very nice with trees and bushes and flowers and plants. It was gated and very pleasant. The staff who gave the tour was very informative, very friendly, and very nice. We enjoyed our tour, they were very helpful. The rooms look nice and comfortable. It was in an older part of the town and seemed to be established. It's very well kept up, just older and a little dated. They told us about some of the activities. They have a calendar, we looked at it, and it looked like they had plenty of activities. They were very helpful to the people there, they had rooms where they had games and entertainment, it was very interesting. They were just very nice and they did a good job.

We toured Timberhill Villa Retirement Community, everything was nice. The staff showed very good hospitality. The rooms that we saw were spacious and there's a little kitchen there without an actual stove. You can place a microwave and things there, and it's very clean. They have a library, a salon, a crafts room, a church area, and a workout area. They pretty much have it all and everything about the place was great.

Timberhill Villa Retirement Community is a nice place. It's more senior living, and no assisted living, and what we needed is assisted living. They were very, very friendly and everybody seemed like they knew everybody. It's an older facility. The coordinator or the lady that was in charge of showing us a tour was really, really helpful and very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information. I like that. She called back last week just checking on us and seeing where we're at, so I appreciate that. The unit that we saw had a refrigerator and a microwave.

Timberhill Villa was a very tall building. It's four stories, which I had my qualms with. The outside was kind of dark. Although it did have a lot of land, and I like that part. It looked like they had a good walking area, but there wasn't much to look at. The entranceway was fine. They had it very cutely decorated with lots of bears, stuffed animals, and dolls. It's definitely geared towards women, and I thought that was attractive. It was just kind of impersonal walking in. You felt like you were just walking into a large building of apartments. I didn't see any residents. I only saw the employees who were going about their business taking great care of the place. It was very clean and attractive, but the hallways were all very dark. The sitting areas were also in the center of the building, so they were very dark. They had some small sitting areas by open windows, and those were more appealing. Because it was a taller building, it had bigger views when you looked out at things. It was in a little bit of an industrial area. It's an older neighborhood, so I didn't really care for that either. The staff was polite. They were trying to be friendly, and they all looked happy. Nobody had a blank look on their face. They all tried to be very interactive with me, which I appreciate. The cabinets inside the rooms need to be replaced. They looked old, and they looked like they were deteriorating. They had more of a hotel feel, rather than a home feel. The bigger rooms had a little bit more of a home feel, but the smaller ones looked basically like you're walking into a hotel. It was pleasant. I'm sure it has its perks, but the hallways were just so dark. It was a 55 and up community, but there was nobody around. I didn't see a single resident, so that was discouraging.

Timberhill Villa Retirement Community seemed OK. It just didn't sparkle, particularly. It seemed to be very well organized and very solid. I just didn't sense the same kind of joy that I felt from the other facilities. I think they provide good services. They had a good outdoor area. It just didn't seem very bright or as welcoming. The only one I interacted with was the one who gave me the tour. She was very knowledgeable and very helpful. They had a large outdoor area, which is very nice. They had an exercise area. The facility was located on several acres, and it was well-maintained, well-manicured with grass and bushes. The biggest thing is it's the closest to my home since I'm the one that will primarily be visiting my sister. So, that was the primary reason we looked at that.

Timberhill Villa Retirement Community said that in case the people would need special care, a CNA would come over and take care of them. The ambulance or doctor can even come to the facility if they need it. The only thing I didn't like was that the hallways were very dark, and for me, it looks very depressing. The lady told me that they're planning to update it. You can have in-home-care come in too if you need it. The people are very nice, but I like the other place I toured better. The staff who gave the tour was a very nice person, I don't have any complaints. She was very nice, very courteous, she told us everything and showed us all of the apartments and everything. The rooms were nice but it was very old. When we were there they were having a knitting activity, they have other activities too. They have an outside space but they need a lot of improvement. The carpets were so worn out in the hallways, they said they were going to change the carpets because they're all dirty.

I am moving into Timberhill Villa, and I am impressed with what I saw. It was a friendly group of people. It is within my price range, and my sister was there, and she loved it for a year or so. I am very pleased with what I've done. They have exercises, they have doctors that come in and talk to us, they do a lot. It is a Christian community, and I am impressed. I don't know anything about the staff other than they are there, and they cook and clean.

Timberhill Villa is a nice place. The price range is doable. They have an active calendar, which is very good. The rooms have very nice floorplans. They provide a little bit of everything that we would need. They serve three meals a day. Up in their kitchenette area, there is no stove but there is a refrigerator and a nice cabinetry. You can put a microwave in one of the cabinets. They have a patio, which is nice. They have a very nice walking area, covered parking, an open parking for a fee, and three meals a day. We were able to taste their lunch menu. Food was very good and very tasty. They served them with herbs and spices; they're very flavorful.

Thanks so much for taking the time to review our community! It makes me happy to hear that you recognize the great staff we have and the fact that we are very respectful of our residents. Because Timberhill Villa is not a big corporation - it really has a personal touch. With owners here on property all the time we think you will notice a big difference!

Timberhill Villa was good. We didn’t stay there for lunch or anything like that. They just showed us the place, it seemed very clean, and the people seemed comfortable.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been here in Timberhill Villa for less than a month. I like the location. It had all the amenities that I needed, like meals included and exercises. The food is OK. It would be nice if there would be more of variety instead of having the same stuff over and over but it’s good. The staff is very friendly. They have a devotional on Monday nights, and I get involved in that and also do bingo. Those are the only activities I have tried so far. You can get two or three meals a day. They have an open dining room, and you can bring a guest if you like. They have 2 dining times for each meal: 11 and noon for lunch, and 4 and 5 for dinner, and you can choose whichever you want to go to. They do assigned feeding. I don’t much like that but that’s the way they do it here to make sure that everybody is accounted for, so I think that’s a good idea, but I prefer to have a little more freedom to sit around and meet new people.

Provider Response

Sherry thanks so much for taking time to post a review. We sure love having you here. You just dove right in and got involved! You even brought your scrap book club here and invited our residents to join you. Wow! FYI, we do suggest a seating assignment when folks first arrive here just so they aren't wandering around looking for an open seat but you are always welcome to move around. I know you and your table mates are great friends now so I'm sure that won't happen! Thanks for your suggestions - we are working on expanding our menu choices. We do have a three week cycle and offer 2 entree options and 4 side options with every meal plus a few "anytime" items to provide variety for everyone.

Timberhill Villa is located in Riverwalk in San Antonio, and the place has a definite Southwestern flavor to it red roofs, wooden floors, lots of land, and a Spanish design theme. Housing is nicer than I've seen in other communities. Timberhill offers apartment units or separate cottage homes with garages. The landscaping is very nicely done with a pet park, trails, fish ponds, and a petting zoo. Yes, they actually have a petting zoo which the residents love! The food is good and they have very flexible meal plans. For example, Timberhill offers pre-planned meals or a buffet option. One of the best things about Timberhill is that it's a family owned business and not a large corporate entity. For example, they allow residents to make menu recommendations, which are then added to the chef's food preparation schedule. Management seems approachable and the staff members are attentive to resident needs. Shuttle transportation is provided so residents can run errands downtown without needing to own a car. Timberhill is a solid choice for a retirement community in San Antonio.

I visited this community with my Mom and brother, looking for a place my mom could be comfortable in, and this place didn't disappoint at all. They have a lot of amenities available, and the cottages they have would be great for my mom. We probably would have gone with this one but it was just too expensive. It seems to have all the services available that a upper scale retirement home has, and the staff were extremely helpful to me and my brother during the visit. Perfect for the one that can afford it.
