Bait and Switch tactics. A relative currently lives at Parklane but the steep rent increases in each year has priced her out of this place - rate increases in the past 3 years were approximately 4%, 5% and 5%, And the new rate about 7 1/2%! At a recent residents meeting, to address this steep increase and find out what to expect in the future, she was bluntly told by a regional rep. that 'profit was the bottom line.' Also instead of the ''very vibrant and active senior community" that she had been told by the sales rep it was, she soon found it to be a substitute for the more expensive Assisted Living Centers - walkers and aides everywhere - some people have aides 24/7! - with only a few residents able to fit the type of community she was looking for. Not only would we not recommend this facility, we would warn against it. Once burned, twice learned

I am/was a resident of this facility
The first introduction to Parklane suggests this would be a great place for seniors to live. But the Devil is in the detail. It has its good points, but these are offset by bad. The best feature is the activities director and calendar of activities. Matt provides a rich cultural, intellectual and social environment that is probably unmatched anywhere in the area. The food is spotty; about 50% of meals are good. The staff tries hard and is helpful and friendly. Where everything falls apart is in the management. The corporate owners - Compass Pointe - are in the business to make money and the bottom line appears to be all that counts with them. They have required 5%, 5%, and 7.5% rate increases in the past 3 years. At that rate the rental price, which is already high, doubles within a few years. Prospective residents should seriously consider that an initial rental rate of $3,000 per month could rapidly accelerate to $5,000 or $6,000 per month. Management has not consulted with residents about increases or made any effort to justify the exorbitant rate changes. Many seniors cannot keep up with the price increases. Still, maintenance is hindered by a lack of funds going in to support needed repairs. Heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and both interior and exterior maintenance is not completed in a timely manner. Parklane advertises itself as an Independent Living Community, but has come to resemble an assisted living facility in actual make-up of occupants. I would not at this time recommend this facility to anyone.

Our family was looking for Independent Living for our father. I was familiar with Parklane but it was not in the location we prefered. After looking at many other places, none could compare. Some were pretty with open grounds but the apts. were small and dark and overall just didn't offer the full package. Not only is Parklane beautiful but the apts. were larger and more inviting. (more home-like), the atrium invited you in and everyone from staff to residents were so friendly. As dad has lived here, we have come to realize that the inconvenience of driving further out of our way wasn't as important as where he lives. The staff is so amazing, the food is delicious and the activities keep our dad having the quality of life we all hoped for. We as a family are thrilled with this lifestyle he is enjoying. We made the right choice!

Assisted living was not necessary for our loved one at the time of relocation, but relief from caring for a home, preparing meals, arranging transportation etc. was. We felt increasing social stimulation would also be of great benefit. We've been so grateful for the gaps that have been filled in by Parklane as well as the peace of mind afforded to the family. Though personal care is not a service of Parklane per se, their Supportive Living program helps facilitate awareness of needs when on occasion they arise, and supports the family in arranging what are often temporary extra services. The food is fantastic, activities great, the staff very caring and accommodating. We feel we made the right choice with Parklane!

I visited this facility
The staff was nice at Park Lane Senior Living. They answered all the questions I asked them. The dining room was OK -- nothing special -- and the safety of the place seems OK.

I visited this facility
We had a really good tour at Parklane. The place was very nice. The rooms were too small, but neat and clean. They also had a couple of two-bedroom option that seemed more suitable. The staff was informative and helpful. They had activities, like when they take people to the opera. They had people who were experts in the community come in and give talks. They had weekly grocery runs. They also had transportation for the residents.

We had some references from other friends who have their parents at Parklane. My mother-in-law has been there since December, and we have people who have been there for several years; they really enjoy it. It's a senior apartment, but you can add a lot of services to it. Her one bedroom apartment is quite perfect. They provide her with high-quality service. It's really good, and also it's well-organized. They have activities every day. It's amazing. They have an excellent person in charge who is really quite creative. The activities keep them sharp and make their minds work, like going to the library and to the symphony. We had meals with her there; it's very acceptable. She's not complaining at all about the food. I've been telling all my friends about them who have parents. We are very happy with it.

About Parklane Senior Living
Parklane Independent Senior Living is a very vibrant and active senior community. Not only is our building beautiful and inviting, but we offer three delicious meals a day, exercises every morning, a myriad of social, cultural, and educational activities to participate in, as well as musical performances, current events discussions with a university professor, and Happy Hour on Friday... just to name a few features. Residents stay busy and involved if they choose, but also find time for great conversation with one another in our beautiful atrium or a quiet moment by the fireplace.
What Makes Us Special
Parklane features an established downtown community that's in touch with the vibrant Salt Lake City urban life. Shopping, theaters, university and cultural arts are just minutes away. The atrium is breathtaking and a great place to enjoy fine dining.
