Our parent had a good experience in Oakcrest Independent Living, so we expected the same in Assisted Living. Total opposite experience! Very few caring staff and recent months zero staff on multiple shifts. Constant thefts. No visible supervisors while young, untrained and uncaring staff played on their phones (observed this very often). Poor laundry. Dining is best department but very difficult for elderly to navigate complex menu options, then staff in dining room did not seem to know the residents and their meal requests (or health requirements). Tiny rooms. Admin refused to share medical/Rx info or documentation of Rx given. Constant battle trying to get care. Activities staff did not try to get participation and seemed to give up. Cranky workers. Then they raised rates almost 10% to almost 12K monthly. Finally moved our parent out of there with relief and found better care for half the price. AVOID OAKCREST ASSISTED LIVING, in our experience and opinion.

My friend has moved into Oak Crest. It's a large community, but they do a very good job in sections. There are a lot of offerings for restaurant-type dining. She has a one-bedroom. They have outside areas and they have someone at the desk always for supervision. The staff members are overworked, but they're all pleasant. My friend selected this place because she liked the food and she still likes the food. It's nutritional, but plenty of options are available and nice snacks are available all day that is almost self-service. You can get them yourself or have somebody get them all day long. There are three meals a day if you want them. They will bring you breakfast to your room if you prefer. The facility is quite clean. The assisted living where she is, is quite attractive. It has a very nice common area, and they have some good programs for participation. She needs memory care as well, so she's on the borderline there, but she's managing quite well where she is. She doesn't need a wheelchair or anything like that. They have trivia and music. She doesn't have a great deal of interest in the other things, but I know they have news discussions, field trips, and movies. There have been a couple of good lectures. All the holidays are celebrated. Veteran's Day was a big celebration, which she enjoyed because she was an Army librarian and spent her life working for the U.S. Army, and she was distinguished for her service. They have Christmas tree trimming, cookie baking, and that kind of thing, so it's pretty busy. It's very attractive and great value for the money. The activities director is fantastic.

We're considering Oak Crest in Parkville, Maryland for my friend. We want to get her in a place where she can socialize with other people her age, and get to do activities. It's a great place, it's top-notch. They have care right there in the facility, doctors, therapy, and so on, you name it. It's a pretty large facility, the food is very good and they have a top-notch chef there. It's like being on a cruise ship, she doesn't have to do anything as she's independent living. She will have her own kitchen in her apartment if she wants to cook. But they also offered two meals a day which is included in the cost. And when you go to dinner, it's like going to a restaurant where you sit down at the table and pick what you want from the menu, and they come over, take the menu and go fix your orders. It's a lap of luxury.

I was visiting today and the first complaint was by 1:30 the bed wasn’t made. Second complaint is the food. Why ask what they want if they aren’t going to get it? She got a banana and a muffin for breakfast.. not what she asked for. She asked for western omelette for lunch and there was only cheese in it. The chicken and dumplings were definitely not chicken and dumplings. It was some sort of soup! The place needed a good cleaning! For this kind of money they should be treated as king and queens! The woman is 99 and can do some for herself but not much. So disappointed!

Medical care is inadequate. One Dr. taking new patients. Has be taking unexplained leave time. No appointments available with other Drs. My wife has had two appointments rescheduled (over 5 months) and who knows if it may be reschedule. One of the "sit down" restaurants needs total revamping if possible. It was designed to be a buffet. Servers take your order and go over to the buffet and your order is put on your plate and returned to you. Vegetables or often very over cooked. Will not eat there any more. This puts pressure on other restaurants for reservations. If you want at one of the other restaurants, you must get up during the night to get a reservation at a reasonable time.

I am a resident of Oak Crest. I'm very satisfied, and everything is provided. You don't have to worry anymore about what's going to happen. My husband just died a month ago, and I know that I will be cared for as I deteriorate or get worse. I have a large apartment, with two bedrooms, two baths, and a balcony. There's a kitchen, living room, and dining area. We have just about anything you want. We've got our own medical staff of about five different doctors, and several nurse practitioners there all the time. We have security that's EMS trained. We got eight restaurants here, and we got a CVS on campus. We've got everything here; you don't have to leave campus. On top of that, they do have a shuttle service to the grocery stores. Because of the Covid problems and transportation and stuff, I'd say the food right now is about a four; but you can't blame them because it's just the way things are right now. There are so many activities you can't keep up with them all. I can't find fault with them.
