Brookdale Olympia East was the nicest facility. Everything was updated, and it was clean. The people were very friendly. Jordan, the gentleman that gave us the tour and took us through everything was really good. He was very friendly and he wasn't trying to force anything. He was just a nice guy and we enjoyed our time with him. Theirs was probably the best rate of the other 3 properties that we saw. They invited us there for lunch, and the food was good. The choices were good. Their restaurant was open from 7 AM to 7 PM. Everything was on the menu during the whole day. The only problem I had was that there was only one elevator for all the floors, and the elevator was a little small.

Brookdale Olympia East was high on my list. I liked the people and it was convenient to my medical needs. The building is a bit old and parts of it don't look very secure, but I really liked the place otherwise. It's very convenient location wise. It looked like the restaurant was good. The environment was good. I just wish they had air-conditioning. Otherwise, I found it favorable. The staff was great. There was one room on the first floor that had a sliding door in the back, and it was not secure at all. The building generally is a bit on the shabby side, but not dirty nor bad. You can't rebuild the building, but it was marginal, and without air-conditioning (which I have at home, and I was very thankful for it last summer), and that makes me nervous.

I moved into Brookdale Olympia East 2 months ago. We have a lot of activities like exercises, games, and movies. My room is very comfortable. We have a lot of options for food. Some things are better than others, but generally, it's good food and fairly healthy. The staff is very helpful, but I think they need to add staff and increase their training.

I went to Brookdale Olympia East independent living side, although they also have assisted living. I was very impressed with it. It was very welcoming, very clean, large, and spacious. I was immediately helped when I went in, "What are you here for? Who do you want to see?" that kind of thing. The staff took me around and showed me all that we could see. She showed me a couple of the rooms. I did not get to eat because I went there late, but they have a dining room that's open for 12 hours and you can go in at any time and get any of your three meals. I like the fact that the assisted living and the independent living rooms are qualified for all of them. If I had to become assisted living, I wouldn't have to move. I would stay right there. It is very clean and they did their best to make it homey and appealing. The staff was very willing to assist me. She answered all of my questions. She showed me the entire layout and took me to see a couple of the rooms. She showed me a one-bedroom and a corner studio, which was quite spacious, but not for me. They had a full kitchen, although the stove was small, and I guess people don't do a lot of cooking when they get my age. They were doing bingo at the time. The staff also showed me other activity rooms and gave me a list of all the activities that they have weekly. They'll take me to my doctors and things like that. They had trips like shopping trips or going to movies and they had movies every night. There are a lot of things. It is a little expensive, but it's right at the edge of what I can afford.

We chose Brookdale for our Mom and although they use all those "comfort words" to tout their facility, It was none of that. I spent many days just staying there with Mom and observing staff interaction and contact hoping I would feel reassured she would soon get the care, assistance and attention she needed. Our expectations were high because the price was high. Yet her few months stay at Brookdale was never more than minimally sufficient. My siblings had similar observations over the course of her stay, and we coordinated to make sure one of us saw her weekly. That was often hard because we all live hours 2-3 away from her. There was no peace of mind while Mom was there. Many components of her service plan were not provided consistently, some not at all. I came to see her on "laundry and housekeeping day." I waited until evening to observe staff attention and she was given her medications but no one came to provide these necessary services. I washed 3 loads of clothing, including her soiled bedding vacuumed and emptied garbage as well. Mom was not familiarized to the environment and routine of the community and rarely escorted to the dining room. Maybe it was best. Diners were only allowed one person per table, and looked forlorn sitting close, yet far from other residents. Mom was not familiarized or prompted with the menu or how to order food from her room. It was obvious when my siblings and I showed up that the "personalized service and clinical guidelines to meet daily needs with the right care at the right time, delivered by the right people" failed my Mom. She spent most days in her room sleeping. Food and medication was delivered by techs and staff that was mostly new and stretched thin. Added to the anxiety was the total non-transparency of Brookdale's billing. Often inquiries regarding Assessment Plans and Summary were not answered or calls returned. This particular Brookdale has a very antiquated message system. No voicemail for key people. You leave a message with the front desk person. Questions regarding Assessment Plan, Summary and costs often get no response, Calling the corporate office is just as bad.

I was fairly satisfied with Brookdale Olympia East. I would say it's hard for me to say impressed because of the whole circumstances, but I was pretty satisfied. If I needed to, I would feel comfortable having my mother there. I believe it was a studio/one bedroom that we went to have a look at. It is fairly decent, and about the same size as the apartment building that she has now. I believe they showed us some of the common places, like where she would be doing any kind of activity or eating (if she wasn't eating in her room). They had an exercise area. The caring staff was pretty good and very understanding about everything. They're doing a very good job with all the other patients (not like I heard anybody screaming or anything like that). There were some walking paths and benches outside.
