I visited this facility

I looked at Affinity at Olympia. It was independent living. It didn't include food services, and it didn't include housekeeping. I liked it very much. It's a little newer and it shows in the rooms. Plus, they have small, but full kitchens. They have a swimming pool that's indoors and they have a craft room that was set up with sewing machines and work areas and a lot of supplies. They have a room with jigsaw puzzles and games. They have a pub, which is kind of weird, but it provides social opportunities. They have a lot of meeting areas. It's got a lot of very nice amenities, but it's not going to work for somebody who needs more services. It's a better match with what we're looking for, for my mother. The staff during the tour was very nice, but they were a little understaffed. Their facilities were beautiful.

I visited this facility

We were in Affinity at Olympia for a tour a few months ago. It had so many pluses to it, and I thought it was wonderful. It was nice and clean. The people there seemed very happy. It checked a lot of boxes for me and my husband. What it didn't check was that they didn't have meals there, which is important to us, as well as a few other services that we need. It had a lot of amenities, but it didn't have assisted living that we needed. They had a lot of group activities, which was really nice. They had a lot of going out as groups together. They had a lot of individual rooms for things like Bible study. What I really liked was that they had a library, a saltwater pool, and a woodworking shop. It was just loaded with everything, but the meals. It even had light housekeeping, which we needed. It was like a resort and just gorgeous.

I am a resident at Affinity and have been for over 5 years. I really enjoy living here. It is a lovely place. During Covid it was quiet but now there are so many activities and things to do. I love the pool, it is clean and open all the time for me to use. There is a new staff in the office and they are very kind and helpful. The new Manager really listens to concerns and the few times I have come down to the office she is so friendly and she sits down with me and takes the time to explain things, never rushing me. I was so excited to see the filthy hallway carpets being cleaned and other such items finally being addressed. Other places let things get run down over time and I feared that might happen here. My granddaughter comes to visit me and she loves to watch a movie in the theater room. I really enjoy living here.

My parents having been living at Affinity for 5 years now and the management has changed 3 times since they have moved in. The most recent management is by far the worst. They are taking away amenities like use of the craft room by limiting what they can do in there. My mother is a sewer and thoroughly enjoyed her time sewing with other residents. That was her social time, now rules have changed saying residents have to put their machines in cubbies when they are done. My mother is 85 and can't be lifting a sewing machine in and out of a cubby every time she wants to use it!! Oh, and now they want to restrict want type of plants residents have on their patios, seriously?! The new management cares more about looks than their residents who pay to live there. I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Your feedback helps us grow and improve. We are very sorry to hear that your parents have had a negative experience with us. We do allow 1 machine per resident to be left on the tables in our craft room. We apologize for the closure of the craft room as we know how much our residents enjoy it but for safety reasons we were not able to leave it open while completing the recent upgrades to the lighting and paint. Our residents are very important to us and we want all of our residents to enjoy their time here. Please contact me at anytime so we may talk about your concerns further. Thank you, Betsy Gonzales Community Director-Affinity at Olympia

The tour we had with Affinity at Olympia was fine. They had a large activity room for people that do crafts. There were not too many activities though, but they had a pool. It was less money, but you had less amenities, like not serving meals. Still, it was a very nice place. I toured the different rooms. I got to see the library, and the people were very friendly. The person who toured us even said "If you have any questions, you can call me back."

I am so extremely disappointed in the corporate policies related to living here. The latest disappointment that I just learned is that if you go into the management office and tell them that you want to rent a carport they will happily assign you a carport and charge you for it every month. If you should decide that you made a mistake and you no longer want your carport, they continue to happily charge you for it until your lease is up. This is just another example of this corporation's creative ways of getting every last penny they can out of us with no regard whatsoever for our fixed income. This policy is indefensible .I can see absolutely no benefit to the renter , both the person who has to pay for a carport that they do not want and the person who wants a carport and can't have it because it is taken up by somebody who doesn't want it. Can you see any way that that benefits the renter? I can't. Shame on them.

My mom is now in Affinity at Olympia. She has only been there a little bit, but it seems good with COVID. They don't have a whole lot of functions right now. Everyone is trying to keep their distance. However, with the movie theater that my mom is allowed to go into and the little cafe internet place, it is very good. Her apartment is also awesome. They have activities and services that we're not able to use because of COVID.

My mother-in-law moved into Affinity at Olympia. It's very new, very clean, and modern. There's plenty of parking there, and the dining area looks clean. I saw a sign saying they were starting activities today. There's a saltwater pool and a hot tub. It's a good value for the money.

I lived there for a couple of years after it first opened. The place flooded a couple of times. It was swampy in some areas close to the residences. In my opinion it was poorly managed. During the summer fleas were bad. Cleanliness was so-so. Residents were nice though.

Affinity of Olympia In a word, INCONVENIENT The building is constructed in a “U” shape, the elevators are located in the corners of the building making almost every apartment quite a distance when loading and unloading. As Affinity requires that all large items, are moved through the reception entrance, this increases the distance to your apartment. Alternatively, you can use the entrances at the corners of the building but ONLY if you have paid the additional monthly fee of a parking spot. And as only a few spots are actually convenient, this makes procuring a parking spot quite competitive at times. In most cities, or complexes, you are allowed to park nearest your apartment for a short amount of time to move your items into your new living space. Customarily, landlords/tenants are accommodating to these necessary actions. Not so here. Affinity sends a bulletin with moving directions that require you to, Pull up to the entrance, unlock door, push your furniture etc into the reception area, down a long hallway to your unit, and repeat as many times as needed. Then back to your car and park in a free spot you can hopefully secure as all convenient spaces are “paid only”. Technically, they do have a spot labeled “Loading Zone”. But it’s the size of a small normal spot and right smack next to a “paid” spot, also there is a fire zone labeled at the same spot. After inquiries two local moving companies replied that they were reluctant to move tenants into Affinity because of the inconvenient moving policies. We got a mover but they said they almost refused. Rent does include WiFi and TV, but the channels available are limited and cannot be upgraded therefor Affinity’s choice of channels are now become your choice. DVR is available but only from Affinity, it costs $250.00. After leaving we were told by management that the DVR would only work in that apartment and nowhere else rendering it useless once moved. Affinity its amenities, but the pool is inconvenient to get to, it’s in another building, requiring a walk outside in all weather and the shortest route is purposefully blocked. The sound coming from the Freeway is loud and constant unless you live on the street side. Keeping windows and patio door shut was required to dim the noise. According to the website, they are a “refreshing new option” and that the “residents don’t have to compromise”. We found the attitudes of some of the staff very uncompromising. We felt like we were being reprimanded more than once by staff and, by the regular bulletins about the need of correcting the actions of the residents. Many moved away while we were there. Requiring ongoing sales and tours. In attempting to contract the parent company to discuss my dismay with the management, I could not locate that contact information. the numbers found on the website were out of service. When I reached out to a different Affinity to obtain at least a phone number, I was told it wasn’t available and asked repeatedly why I wanted it. After being on hold for 35 minutes, I was told they would call me back. They never did. From that time on their response to any questions was ”we will get back to you” or quite often it was, “READ YOUR LEASE”? “ SALES “ and protecting the company are “The” priority at Affinity. Big thumbs down.

I came here for the safety and convenience of the facility. This is a very active community of seniors, but not pushy. This is the place to be if you love animals. There are dogs everywhere. Maintenance and management do a good job of picking up the dog waste and cleaning the carpets. The lawns are constantly being reseeded to account for the dog urine damage. The pet deposit and monthly dog rent is very small compared to the maintenance that goes into allowing your animal to live here. You and your dogs will love it here.

I have lived at Affinity of Olympia since it opened. . The facility itself, the amenities and the staff are wonderful. The corporation that owns these buildings, however, is not wonderful. They have built these buildings and filled them with people over the age of 55 and show absolutely no compassion or understanding for the fact that we are on a fixed income. I have just received my fourth rent increase which translates to a 3 to 5% increase every time my new lease has come up. We were charged $15 per month to have a cat in your apartment when I moved in. The cat rent has now gone up to $25 a month. Please note that this is on top of a pet damage deposit. With my new lease the fee for a late rental payment has gone from $100 to $200. I would strongly caution anybody considering moving into any Affinity building. You will need to look far into the future and make sure that you are in a financial situation that allows your living expenses to increase on a regular yearly basis. Not only your rent but also auxiliary expenses that management is going to increase on a regular basis. I don't recommend moving into an Affinity. I would like to see a message sent to this management company that conveys the message that if you choose to supply housing for seniors , do it in a responsible manner that reflects and respects the fact that our pension and SS does not increase by 3 to 5 percent yearly.

I have lived at Affinity at Olympia for more than two years. It is such a clean, quiet, comfortable place to live. The entire staff does their best to take care of all the details that make living here like staying at a resort! I feel safe walking my dog on the well-maintained sidewalks. The common areas are well-used for activities that are mostly planned by residents. I especially enjoy having the family dining room available for special events with my children and grandchildren. Affinity-sponsored activities are well-publicized and open to all who choose to participate. Active seniors can find a great place to live at Affinity!

Living at Affinity is like heaven...meticulously maintained, managed by exuberant and caring folks, is loaded with more amenities than I can possibly use, affordable (cable/WiFi provided in a new system by Direct TV). I love the pool, the even and new walkways outside, the fact that dogs are on leashes, so people pick up well after them, and that it is calm and quiet with very, very little drama. Friendly residents. Great parties. A theatre to die for, concerts in the day lounge, and even a "senior" prom. Come, check us out and join an independent community with no pressure to do any more than you want.

I have lived here for 2 years and am very happy. The complex is clean. Management is good. Maintenance is good. You shouldn't move here if you can't live independently. Don't bring a dog unless you are physically able to pick up his stuff.

I have been a resident of Affinity for two years and I love it. I will admit that apartment living was hard for me to get used to at first, but as time went on I adjusted. When I became widowed management helped me transition into a smaller apartment. All my neighbors are a great comfort to me. I love the many activities and the people are great. I also feel very safe here , I had several maintenance issues that were handled promptly.

I love living at Affinity. When I relocated here, I knew no one. Now I have many friends who care about one another. There are many resident led or Affinity sponsored activities. You can do as little or as much as you want. There are many rooms to entertain family and friends. This is a very clean and safe place to live. The staff is efficient and caring. I love it here.

Affinity is truly a great place to live. My wife and I have lived here for 16 months and really love it. Maintenance issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently. We don't even have to change light bulbs! There was an issue in the men's room on a Sunday evening. One call to the the emergency after hours number and maintenance was here and had it fixed in an hour. The management team treats all of the residents with dignity and respect. They go above and beyond to try to resolve residents' issues efficiently. There are numerous Affinity sponsored events each month and dozens of resident led activities. You can be as active as you want. Your level of enjoyment is entirely dependent on what you put into it. My favorite spot is the workshop. I also spend a lot of time in the theater watching baseball and football games. There are many spaces available to entertain family and friends.

I am a current resident at Affinity and have lived here for 2 years. I love it here. We have a lot of activities and are like a big family. I wanted to write something because I see this bad review and it is full of falsehood and is just obviously an angry person. We love our management and they treat everyone fairly and with respect. There has not been mold issues here and it is a clean, beautiful, and safe place to live. Come and see for yourself! You can walk around and see all the fun things we have to do and talk to other residents yourself. Affinity is a fun and beautiful place to live! We are an active community, so there is not "walker" parking, but there is ADA accessibility to all of our amenities, and a staff that cares to make it the best place to call home!

If you have a senior loved one thinking about moving into this place WATCH OUT!! If they are disabled, they can not use their walker to go catch the bus or leave it accessible for them when they return. (Office says they can't do it for just one, so nobody can leave their walkers)..They will have to walk unassisted, no hand rail etc, which will put your mom or dad into to a very dangerous situation. This was not the case when my mother moved in AND no one from the office told us that they were going to make this rule..

In the time I lived there, the facility deteriated very quickly. There is only one cleaning person to clean the whole building and move out apartment cleaning. This is unacceptable. The carpets frequently had stains and actual animal urine and feces were found in hallways and in the elevator. There has been mold found in several of the apartment units. One tenant had to chose to leave the complex after a incident with mold in her apartment and a continued illness. The manager fraternizes with tenants with obvious favoritism for "special tenants" She is very inexperienced and incompetent in her position. Her dishonesty and manipulation of people makes it a very uncomfortable living experience. The are people who have been placed on " bonds" and the manager manipulated their income so they may qualify and receive reduced rent. As "a favor" to her "special" tenants. When I first moved in, it was a fairly "active" group of people. With a "push" to fill all the apartments, the population was reduced to many elderly that would have been better suited in a assisted living facility. All about the money?

The intent of Affinity as they proclaim is good, however in one year multiple problems have arisen and Management has accomplished very little. The current issues plaguing this Facility is: 1. Elevators are out of service multiple times and little is seen to correct. There are tenants that are wheel chair bound and unable to negotiate stairs. 2 Hall floors have stains that have remained for months. There is no effort to have a commercial cleaning service to keep the halls clean. 3. Current management fail to respond to tenant request 4. Communication is sadly lacking in all management levels 5. Stairwells have stains on floors 6. One tenant has a reserved parking spot, this tenant does not have a car 7. It is an embarrassment to say I live here 8. There are no posted evacuation plan and diagram.

Affinity at Olympia is quite pleasant and enjoyable. It is small, yet comfortable. They have activities they are just getting going. They have good offerings, and we had a good come-on that got us here. They have entertainment probably every third week that includes food, and it is very desirable. I have only been here since July 16, so we haven't been here very long yet. There is a swimming pool, which is great, and things to do. The rooms are small, but comfy, and I like cozy. They are well-planned; we like them. What is good about this place is you only have one bill to pay. They cover everything, except your telephone. There are no meals and no transportation, but as far as utilities, they cover all of your utilities. They are not totally full, and so they still have things to learn, but I would give them a five. The only drawback is that it is right over Highway 101, so we hear the highway and we can see the highway.
