I toured Brookdale Northbrook and that was lovely. It seemed very active, too. A lot of things were going on when I was there. However, religiously my mom is very Catholic, and there's a majority of Jewish people there, so it just didn't seem like it was going to be a good fit permanently. The place itself was lovely, and the people and the residents seemed like they were happy and all that, so that was good. The apartment was nice too.

The staff at Brookdale Northbrook was very friendly. Everyone seemed very happy, not only the staff but the residents. There are smiles on their faces. Most of them were engaged in an activity. The rooms were nice sized, not overly spacious, but just enough. They had a nice little kitchenette, a nice-sized bedroom, and a bathroom. The dining area looked comfortable. It had tables all setup. The menu looked good and had nice options. It's more like a restaurant. The indoors were very nice. Everything's good and very comfortable. They had mahjong and bingo and one was sitting in the library at that time.

Brookdale Northbrook was lovely and I know many people there that are very happy to be there. The staff was welcoming and kind. They offer all kinds of activities. They have arts and crafts, a beautiful weight room, a nice garden (they have a gardening club), a nice card room, and a pool table. They made the place so that people could just sit in different areas and it was just a very homey feeling.

My mom is still in Brookdale Northbrook. The staff is very nice and very attentive. Their food has changed a lot. They're short in staff, so they're doing a lot of buffets, which is harder obviously for elderly people, and the price has gone up a lot, too. We were going to move her, but she has made friends there, so she wants to stick with the friends she made, so that's one good thing about them. What I could suggest to them is to give them what they're paying for. They're paying a lot of money and they're not getting the service, the staff, and the food. The staff are very attentive and very caring, but the food is not appropriate for elderly people. It's high in sodium and high in fat. They serve them hotdogs, too. They have a lot of variety of activities that she does participate in. Their units are very nice.

Brookdale Northbrook was very clean. I was impressed with the spaciousness of the area. The tables were not on top of each other. They were very articulate, knowledgeable, and polite. They knew their business. They're the best at following up with me. They gave me sample food to bring home, and it was very tasty.

Brookdale Northbrook was very nice, very clean, and seemed well-run. The lady introduced me to the staff and gave me a tour of the place. They were very nice and a lot of them had been working there for many years. We looked at a one-bedroom apartment, and it was very nice. She pointed out all the things that would be available and answered our questions. We were impressed. She was very helpful. They also do a lot of activities. She gave us a schedule and told us how they arrive at doing certain activities. They get input from the residents on what they want, which I thought was nice, and the same thing goes with the menus. They had a real nice choice of daily menus, and a very nice dining room. The landscaping outside was very nice, too. You can take walks or sit outside in the nice weather. It's very pretty.

Brookdale Northbrook was very nice. I like the setting where it was located. It's right within a townhome subdivision so it's not in an industrial area, which was nice. If you wanted to take a walk outside and walk through the neighborhood, it was lovely. We were able to have lunch there, and the food was very good so that was a plus. We looked at the independent living and the staff showed us 2 apartments and it didn't have the finishes that I would have liked. It wasn't as nice as the place that we'd put our deposit down in. The building itself just wasn't as updated as I would have liked either. I just don't feel that I could have been happy living there. It had the services that my husband needed, but so does the place where we've put our deposit down. She showed us an apartment and we were looking for a 2-bedroom and 2-bath. The only issue was as soon as we walked in, I could hear the noise from the highway. It was in the location that was upon the highway, and I couldn't live with the noise. I wouldn't be able to have my windows open so I didn't like this aspect of it. They didn't have another apartment which was a 2-bedroom, 2-bath and in another location, that would face the back of the townhome subdivision or the gardens, which was quiet. They didn't have anything like that at all. What they have that I liked was they had this thing that when later on, if my husband would have needed assisted living, they have an apartment where you could start as independent living and if you need assisted living, you can stay in the same apartment. You wouldn't have to move again. But there was a waiting list for that, and so there was nothing available. I think they would have to put in nicer finishes in the apartments. There was a service too that they offered where you could have your car valeted, but there was a fee for it. It was something like $40 a month but in the location that we've put our deposit down, the service was free. We didn't have to pay anything. Also, my husband is a veteran and the place we've chosen will be taking off 7% of the rent that we have to pay for his portion every month. At Brookdale Northbrook, they don't do that. What they do is they put my husband's picture on the wall, a picture from him when he was in the service. I think the 7% off would be a lot more beneficial to people than having your picture put on the wall.

My sister, age 78, entered the Assisted Living at Brookdale Northbrook in the fall of 2019. Unfortunately her health declined. She died in Dec. of 2020. I am a nurse and my husband a retired physician. Brookdale impressed us with their excellent staff in all their departments. While at Brookdale, we eventually utilized their Home Health Care Department and added Brookdale Personal Caregiver Services. Hospice care occurred in her apartment toward the end. We had frequent contact with the Nursing Director of Assisted Living, who helped coordinate the excellent care her staff gave as well as made sure other services were coordinated if necessary. Without a doubt, my sister’s health care and needs were individualized and given in a very caring loving way. My sister was an avid horsewoman. Horses and the loving care of her cats were an integral part of her life. An example of Brookdale’s loving care, was a visit by a horse my sister knew well at the loading dock of this facility, with the help of the Nursing Director of Assisted Living coordinating. This occurred despite my sister’s health limitations posing challenges. We felt overwhelming gratitude for the recognition of how this contributed positively to her physical and emotional recovery at the time. Covid 19 issues were also met quickly at Brookdale. The very low positivity statistics are a testament to their concern for the safety and health of their residents. The life and care my sister had at Brookdale comforts our family during the grieving process.
