I am/was a resident of this facility

I am living at Elison Independent Living of Niles. The staff is wonderful. They provide weekly cleaning. Each apartment has its own kitchen. Most people use it very little, except for the refrigerator, because meals are provided in the main dining room. For me, I think the food is fine. The one thing that I am amazed at is the servers. They just redid the lobby with new carpeting and furniture. It's very appealing. My family is always impressed when they come here. There are several activities each day.

Elison Independent Living of Niles was very nice. That would probably be one of my first choices. It's just they don't have graduated care and if I move, I only want to move one more time. I like their room the best. The rooms were very nice. I can afford a studio. Their studios have the bed partitioned off, so there's at least the illusion of having a bedroom. The staff was a very kind, gracious lady, answered all my questions, and was very nice. The food was very good. I had a bowl of soup, and it wasn't salty.

Elison Independent Living of Niles had a lot of activities and things to do there. They had a pool, an activity room, and a small pool table. It's open and airy when you walk in. The rooms were very nice. They have a nice kitchen in them, and they have a good use. The person who showed me around was friendly and accommodating. I even had a meal there and the food was good. I liked that place.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The unit that my sister and brother-in-law chose at Elison Independent Living of Niles was a little bit larger and there were a lot of activities going on. They have quite a bit of entertainment. The people that I've met have been very nice. My sister and brother-in-law are still kind of trying to get acclimated to the place, but the food, from what I understand, is good. There are a lot of amenities for them to take advantage of, but again, they haven't taken advantage of anything yet. They are still trying to get acclimated to their surroundings because they came from a five-bedroom house to a one-bedroom unit. It was a very big downsize for them. The facility is clean and nice. I think that all the exteriors, like the common areas, are clean. I've been there bringing stuff to them and by just walking around, I see that everything is very clean. There's a library and activities that they try to engage the people that live there into joining. They have people there who help with physical therapy and exercise, but I was just amazed at the entertainment that they have for these people. It's nice.

Provider Response

We're thrilled that you've noticed these efforts during your visits. If there's anything more we can do to assist your family members in settling in comfortably, please don't hesitate to let us know! I like that Elison Independent Living of Niles is very clean and very updated. The only thing I didn't like about it was there was no balcony. It's nice to have a balcony to go out and get some fresh air, but I understand it's a very tall building. So that was probably the only thing I didn't like. Otherwise, everything else I liked. I didn't try their food, but it smelled very good. If I can figure out this financial situation with my parents, I would love to have them there because I think they'd be a great fit for them. However, the only thing is that I don't think they can transition to assisted living. Nevertheless, the cleanliness of the place was beautiful. Absolutely wonderful. They have a pool and a physical therapy room, which is very nice.

Provider Response

Richard: We are delighted to know that you appreciated the cleanliness, modernity, and amenities offered at Elison Independent Living of Niles. We strive to provide an environment that feels both comfortable and luxurious for our residents, so your positive remarks truly mean a lot to us. We understand your desire for a balcony, and we recognize that outdoor access can be a wonderful feature. While our building structure does limit this option, we've endeavored to incorporate plenty of communal spaces where residents can enjoy fresh air and natural light, such as our beautifully kept gardens and spacious common areas. As for the transition to assisted living, we understand your concerns. At Elison Niles, we believe in providing a home that caters to our residents' evolving needs. While our current setup may not cater to assisted living, we're more than willing to help you explore solutions that ensure your parents' well-being and satisfaction. Finally, we're glad you found our food enticing even without tasting it! We take pride in our culinary offerings, aiming to provide meals that are as delicious as they are nutritious. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome your parents into our community and become part of their journey. Thank you for considering Elison Independent Living of Niles as a potential new home for your loved ones.

I would have moved to Elison Independent Living of Niles today, but the problem is their cheapest place is $2,500 a month. However, they're beautiful. There are restaurants, shopping, and all kinds of stuff. But it's just too much money for me. The staff members did their best. They asked me if there was somebody in the family that could give me money. They did everything to try, but the problem was I couldn't afford it. Food depended on what your diet was, but it was a good variety. They were perfectly fine with providing me with everything I needed. The food was good. It was like eating in a restaurant. The place was very clean.

What I liked about Elison Independent Living of Niles was the price. The staff was great. They were very informed and very helpful. The chef was very elegant and they made good food and good portions. They had a gym, a salon, and a pool. They offer everything except the transportation to the VA.

Elison Independent Living of Niles was very nice. They have a big area where all the residents tend to congregate and sit. They also have a beautiful pool and rooms where they do different events. The apartments were also nice. The staff was lovely.

The people at Elison Independent Living of Niles are very congenial, accommodating, kind, and compassionate. They welcomed me very eagerly and very sweetly. I enjoyed the tour a great deal. Anita, the lady who gave me the tour, was very kind as well, and very professional. As we went through the facility, the residents were welcoming and came forward to greet me. I liked it very much. The only thing I was not able to accept was that they did not have laundry facilities within the apartment. The laundry facilities were on different floors, they weren't on every floor. The food was excellent and very tasty. The dining staff was very professional and very smooth. People came over to my table and greeted me. The kitchen appliances in the apartment they showed me seemed dated, but that was only in the apartment that they showed me. Perhaps they weren't dated in the other apartments that I did not see. They have huge amounts of things that they do. It seems like it is a constant rather than just every other day or every week. Every day, they have exercises, and they have an exercise room with the proper machines. They have very active recreational facilities. They have an art room with displays of the residents' artworks. Their calendar is filled with different things that they do every day.

I went to Elison Independent Living of Niles. The woman I met was very professional, engaging, thorough, pleasant, and inviting. Just a very, very warm welcome by the woman who showed us around. It seemed to be very clean. Well-run, the rooms were nice. I liked everything about it, except the location for my brother's needs, which weren't as great, and not as close to public transportation. There wasn't much with an easy walking distance and that sort of thing. But the facility was great, the staff was very professional, and I couldn't say enough good about that. It was a very good tour.

Provider Response

Hello and thank you SO much for your kind review! We are glad you loved the community and our sales team member who showed you around! We are very proud of our community....it is clean, vibrant, hospitable and has an energetic feel to it. Our apartments are bright and beautiful and many have great views! Also so happy you noticed the cleanliness as we have one of the best housekeeping teams around! Re: TRANSPORTATION: Our community is set back a bit from the street which can may make it difficult for some residents to walk to surrounding stores/businesses. Therefore we provide the following for residents: *Community BUS Scheduled transportation - (we take residents to the grocery store and other nearby stores) with our bus on a weekly basis. * We take residents to nearby doctor appointments weekly * We also have a "Here For You" program that can take residents by appointment to their location for an addt'l fee. Other options: PACE BUS -We also have residents who take advantage of the PACE bus. Residents complete an application to use PACE and they will pick up and drop off right in front of the community. UBER - Some residents use UBER services as well. Thank you again!...hoping you will reconsider and bring your brother to see our community...he will see it and fall in love! I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I visited my uncle at the Elison Independent Living of Niles. It's very nice, very well kept, and the staff is friendly. They've worked well with me, being at a long distance and paying for it. When I get to be old enough to be in a senior center, I wouldn't mind being there. The place is relatively reasonable for the quality and I have no complaints. I have never eaten there but my uncle says the food is very good. The rooms are like a normal apartment. My uncle is in a small 1-bedroom apartment that's nicely kept and well maintained, it's nothing deluxe but it's pleasant. They offer a regular shuttle bus service to local theaters and shopping because it's actually near a major shopping center, only a few blocks away. They have movies once a week, they have public computers for people, and they have a nice little library. They also have a swimming pool and they have lots of regular activities.

Elison Independent Living of Niles was 10 floors, so it's a lot bigger. The studio had a full kitchen, which took up a lot of space. They had big closet spaces, but odd-shaped rooms. There were a lot of people in the eating area, so it was more like a restaurant feel. They had a swimming pool, physical therapy rooms, a lot more parking (since it's bigger), people on staff that would work with you, and hair salons. They also had a book deal with one of the Nile's libraries where they could bring books over in their bookmobile. The staff was wonderful. They offered two free months of rent, which was like $2000 each month. The place was well-maintained and clean.

Provider Response

Thank you Betty for your review. We seek to serve our residents and provide them with the highest standard of living, so we are incredibly grateful to hear your kind words.

Elison Independent Living of Niles seemed very, very nice. They were a good community. It reminded me of a hotel. It's got a very open atrium and there were a lot of residents sitting in the community area and talking. The apartments had modest appliances. It's important for us to have a washer and dryer in the unit, but they don't offer that. The lady we spoke to was lovely and very knowledgeable. She was very friendly and very helpful. She gave us a little goody bag when we left. The dining area seemed fine, too. We met the chef there and he seemed like a great guy.

We're moving my cousin to Elison Independent Living of Niles this month. They're very good and everybody's been very caring, compassionate, and understanding. It's independent living and the community is clean, accessible, and safe. Of course, it's extra paperwork to get in and everything with COVID but I understand. This community is small, but it's the cheapest one we could get because my cousin's money is limited. She's just doing a studio room with a kitchen and bath. We had a chicken salad lunch there and it was very good. The dining area is nice and upscale. It's better than anything she's been used to. They have a swimming pool and an exercise room. They have a big PT room which she should go live in if they can get clearance from Medicaid to pay her care. Everybody gets together for different games too so I'd say it sounds like it's more than enough she'll get out to do. The place is clean and well-cared for. Everything looked good. She can do her own laundry or she can pay extra for it. The negative to it is that I wanted her to go in and they take the money out once a month to pay for that month. With this place, the electricity is separate. She has to pay her own electric bill and they said the estimate is $40. I don't like that. The other thing is if she wants Wi-Fi, and everybody wants Wi-Fi, that's another extra. She has to pay that herself and that's $60. If she can't do her own laundry, which she can but she's lazy, that's $14 a load and I don't like those extras. The storage in the basement is another $50 extra for a tiny storage area so I told her she couldn't have it because she can't afford it. To me, it should just be one price but I think they sucker you in with a lower price and then they hit you with the extras.

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words about our community. Our goal is to make life for our residents as good as possible while they live here. Our community is moderately priced which makes it very affordable for many. However, the extra costs are necessary in order to maintain staffing for any extra services. We continue to work hard to provide quality services at a moderate cost.

We toured and it was a really beautiful thing. It's an independent living and it's very clean and fresh. Their greetings blew me out of the water, everything was very nice, and the people and the staff were nice. I like the scenery too. You could tell that whatever the staff was doing, it was work-related with how they were entertaining the guests. The dining room makes you feel like you are at home with your family. They have several different things for activities. There was a little entertainment room, exercise room, and stuff like that. It was for them to come together so they wouldn't feel like they were not at home. They even have this little store that had several things in it.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother has moved in, and he likes it a lot. The food is very good, he gets two meals a day, and everyone is very friendly and caring. He feels very comfortable. He has a studio, and it has a lot of closets and a beautiful kitchen. The elevators were good. He just really likes it. The apartment is just fine for him; that's all he needs. He has a big enough kitchen, a nice bathroom, and a walk-in shower, which is what he needed. There are safety bars everywhere for him, which is great. They do light housekeeping once a week. This is all very good for this bachelor living out his fifties. The laundry is on the same floor as his apartment. There's one on every other floor, and the laundry is free for him. It's just beautiful and clean, and everything smells good. He has a pool he makes use of; it is wonderful -- ninety-one degrees. It's warm, and he has an exercise room that he can use. They do have physical therapy if he has a doctor's order. They will do things like your laundry for a fee. They will help you with medication for an extra fee. They do a well check if you want, which I don't think there's a charge for. They have assistants to bring you down to dinner if you need assistance, but you pay extra for that. They have a nurse, and they have a doctor who comes every week if you need it. They have free transportation within a seven-mile radius, and for a fee you can have someone come with you if you don't feel you can be by yourself. They have regular runs to the local grocery stores and dollar stores. They have activities during the day, movie nights, and daily exercise. They have a walking club. It's great; you could be involved with how much you want. They have an outside trip every month that you pay for. They transport you there, and they give you lunch. They have a theme for the month. The staff go out of their way to know your name. With food, we're trying everything. I eat there a lot with him, but I pay for my meals. They have a wide variety. They have lox and bagels on Sundays. They have cinnamon French toast, stuffed cabbage, meat dishes, and sandwiches. It's very nice service, I must say. We eat in the dining room with service. When we saw this one, we thought we hit a home run, so we didn't go any further.

The personnel were very caring. Tanisha was exceptional. She really took time, and she followed up. On Mother's Day, they sent a bouquet of flowers to mom. They were very caring. They had an Italian theme day. They had songs and my mom's Italian. They were awesome. She's in hospice, and we'd have to get extra care over there. If she was in better health condition and had she gone there five years ago, maybe by now she'd be really acclimated to the atmosphere. The director of the place was amazing. It was almost like we had a relationship going. She would text me, and I just said she's not ready. The apartments were beautiful. My mom loved the apartment. What she loved about it was it had a kitchenette, and it had a stove. Although they provide all the meals, you have the ability to cook if family members want to bring stuff. The one-bedroom on the top floor that they showed us was lovely. She loved the views. She just didn't want to commit to that. She needs some help with dressing some days. She's not completely assisted living yet, but she's not independent. She's right in the middle right now, and that's what makes it so hard. My brother took her that day. They had a brunch, and it was OK. It wasn't excellent. That's the other problem mom has; she likes her homecooked food. She cooks the best. The food was not lousy, but it's not outstanding. It's in the middle of the road. They had Cinco de Mayo, and in April they had an Italian theme. It was very nice. Every month, they have different things. They have a big atrium, and everybody just gathers there. It's very social, and my mom likes that aspect of it. It's a really nice facility. There's a pool. They have an area where they garden, and seniors could do their own garden.

We did an in-person tour. They had meal options. The rooms were fantastic, and that's the thing I liked the most about this place. We didn't get to see a lot of outdoor spaces. Most of the community was still locked off at the time. They didn't want people walking about too much. The amenities were fairly good. The communal dining room was nice. They had a physical therapist on-site, so someone that needed it wouldn't have to go offsite for that. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. It's just too far away from me. If Niles is the area that you're looking for, it's a great place. The location can be difficult, especially if they have a lot of medical appointments and they're not close enough to where you need to be.

I really liked this community. The lobby and the floors were open and airy. They had a lot of outdoor areas for residents to sit, play games, read, or walk. They had an indoor pool and a little garden area where people could maintain their plants. The people were friendly. It just made a very good first impression.
