Holiday Astor House at Springbrook Oaks was nice. I like it; it is just too far. It was better than the other place. It's a very large facility. It had a great physical appearance. The staff were really good.

The residents at Holiday Astor House at Springbrook Oaks were very nice. The salesperson was very nice, but the specific apartment that they show to people was horrible. It's a very poor representation of what somebody would move into and I told them that. The food was very disappointing. I would never move into that facility. However, the people that I talked to were very pleased with living there. The amenities and the activities looked just fine. The facility was very nice looking, very bright, and appealing. They had knitting, a book group, and bible study.

Holiday Astor House at Springbrook Oaks is beautiful. It's much newer. It's very nice. The manager was very polite and very nice. He showed us everything. It was clean. They have a nice library that everybody can go to. They have a big size room. There were games and stuff; it's kind of like a game room. They got a courtyard, too. It's fairly new and it's gorgeous.

A gentleman showed us around Holiday Astor House at Springbrook Oaks. When you first walk in the building, there's a cafeteria area. Everybody was down for lunch. They looked like they were enjoying the company of their fellow roommates. We walked around and saw one of the sample rooms, which seemed bigger than the other place we toured. They had a newer building, and the staff was very helpful. We would have preferred that place. The price was a lot less expensive also. They had a calendar full of activities. It looked like a fun place to be with a lot of choices. They had a library, and it just looked like there was more going on there.

I chose Holiday Astor House at Springbrook Oaks for myself. It was a lovely tour. I got to see everything I needed to see. I like the people that represented the Astor House, and the people that I dealt with. I like the tour that I took and the time that the person spent with me. I like the grounds. I saw a little apartment and that's just exactly what I needed. The meals are all provided. I couldn't find any fault with it and I'm kind of particular. I saw them serving the food and it looked lovely, but I didn't eat there. The staff was excellent. It's very clean and very beautiful. They had all kinds of seating areas, a library, a church, and little places where you can gather and talk and have a little get-together. They had beautiful grounds. They allow pets. My dog is big and he was in there also and they loved him and he loved them, so that's a huge plus for an elderly person.

I toured Astor House at Springbrook Oaks. They showed me a wide variety, one bedroom, two bedrooms, and they had some on corners which were different shapes. The size has to do with the layout as far as I could tell. I did not appreciate the views at the windows, because I was on the third floor, it was mostly the roof, so you couldn't see anything but the roof, which I don't think I would care for too much. But that's what they have available right now, and I'm not ready to move. I noticed the hair salon there and a kitchen that you could use if you wanted to because my biggest complaint with that place is that the kitchenette is ridiculous. The only thing you've got is a sink, a cabinet, a refrigerator, and that's it. The cabinet is not very big. You couldn't even put a coffee pot and a microwave in that size of the cabinet they have in there. The kitchen you could use was very large and you'd have to mix up your stuff, whatever you are filling, let's say it's a pie. You'd have to make the whole thing and carry it down to this kitchen because they don't have a mixer. They don't have any of the smaller things, which is not bad as long as you had a way of carrying it down there or putting it on a cart if they had carts. The other thing I didn't like and I understand why they do it, but I don't like the limited amount of time for each meal. It's only open for about one hour for each of the three meals. Sometimes you can't make it there as opposed to one of the other facilities I've looked at. Their kitchen is open all day. So it's easier if you accidentally forget a meal or you're out shopping and you come back. You can go in there and ask them for something to eat, and you can't do that at Astor House. They have a snack thing, but it's not a big deal, like yogurt.

My tour at Astor House at Springbrook Oaks was very good. It was clean, the staff was wonderful, and I was very impressed with that one. Unfortunately, they have probably a lot of vacancies because they're the ones that have six deaths, right when the Coronavirus came. I noticed that everybody's wearing masks.

Astor House at Springbrook Oaks is a Holiday facility that only offers independent living. It was okay, it's one of the facilities that I was a little disappointed in their meal program in the sense that their meals started at a particular time and all the residents were expected to be there for that particular time. At the Astor House. It was lunch at noon, and at 12:30 it's done. Their staff was nice, the gentleman that toured us around was pleasant, knowledgeable. I think the prices were better than the other places. Substantially lower, although what I've found is oftentimes what they quote you is usually for the cheapest low-end apartments and things can escalate up from that price due to location, or views, or resources. I didn't try the food at Astor House. They were keeping visitors away from the dining area when people were having their meals. That was due to Covid. I could see people were saying that the food was OK. I would change the meal arrangements. I would offer a wider window of opportunity to go to a meal. I would also offer the choice of ordering off a menu so that you had more than one or two choices for something to eat for a particular meal.

Provider Response

Hello Frank! Thank you for taking the time to review our community. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our community. We serve three to four different entrée options for lunch and dinner so residents have a variety of options to choose from. If you have any further concerns or recommendations, please email or call the community’s General Manager.

I went to Astor House at Springbrook Oaks yesterday. It's way over my hopeful income. It was wonderful. The community is very friendly and very caring. They listened well. They got all the facts before they showed me a place. I love the room they showed me, but when we started talking about money, it was over my budget. Otherwise, if I had the money, I would move there in a flash. The apartments are adequate size and have good conveniences like a refrigerator and so forth. The facility looked well cared for, but I would just do something different. I would put somebody at the front door to greet people with a thermometer, a mask, and some hand sanitizer, but there was nobody at the door, so that's the only downside. The staff was wonderful. They were very friendly, listened well, were polite and very caring. They have a whole calendar of activities and outings. They have a library and a workout room.

My father and I found Astor House at Springbrook Oaks very clean and peaceful. It has a number of options in terms of rooms or apartments with different views. It's very pet-friendly. The manager was conscientious, very helpful, and answered all of our questions. It seems as if it would be a very nice independent living place to live. We've been invited back in August to attend one of their afternoon functions.

Astor House at Springbrook Oaks had the amenities that I wanted. However, the rooms were not real big. I had been in some other ones where the living room was much larger than theirs, but everything else about the place and the way it was set up overtook the fact that the rooms weren't very big. They have an exercise room, activity rooms, a library, and a room where there's a pool table. I know they have activities that I would enjoy too. They have a bus that would take you on little trips, like to a farmer's market or wherever they want to go. I do know that they go to the coast. They will take you to the doctors or wherever if you need too. They have good accommodation for that if you don't have your own vehicle. The staff was very, very friendly, very sociable, and very accommodating. I asked them all the questions, and they explained to me basically the prices and how they came up with them. They were very well versed in what they were doing. The facility was beautiful. It was in a neighborhood that was clean, had lots of trees, and the views from your windows was fantastic.

We are very pleased and satisfied with Astor House for our mom. She is happy with the staff, the flexibility to get out for shopping and errands, the transportation (prior to COVID), and her apartment.

I like Astor House at Springbrook Oaks. It couldn't get any nicer and everything is perfect. The staff and everybody is wonderful. They clean my apartment, change my bed, and clean the bathroom; they do it all except my dishes. My room is a studio apartment that I furnished. The food is good. We have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We have movies twice a week and they serve popcorn with it. We have bingo, a rec center, poker, bridge, and a pool table. There's something every day at different times of the day. This is also a pet-friendly community, and I have a doggie.

Provider Response

Hi Wanda, we are so happy to have you with us! Thank you for your kind words :)

I toured Astor House at Springbrook Oaks. It was clean and nice, but I wasn't really impressed with the activities and the physical fitness things. They had an exercise class, but maybe it's the people staying there; I'm a more active person. The staff member who assisted me was very friendly and very available. The dining area looked very nice, and a couple of people came up to me and said they were happy there.

I had a very good tour at Astor House at Springbrook Oaks, and their staff was very good as well. The rooms were clean and very well-kept. We tried the food in their restaurant style dining area and it was excellent. They have transportation for the residents to go and visit other places around the state of Oregon. The place was very clean and looked great.

Astor House at Springbrook Oak had units in the main building as well as cottages around the complex. We had lunch there and actually stayed overnight. It was very nice, and we liked the management. My husband is diabetic, the food was fine, but they had scheduled dining instead of open dining, so we're concerned about that. He liked the social activities part, like being with active guys he can share interests with like watching football games, play cards, and so on. The manager that we talked to was nice.

I don't have negative feelings about Astor House at Springbrook Oaks. The apartment didn't have an oven or cooktop. They had a library, a workout room for physical activities, and a pool for water aerobics.

Astor House at Springbrook Oaks was terrific. We had a very good visit with the gentleman that toured us. We enjoyed the size of the one-bedroom apartment. I brought back my sister, my daughter, and my granddaughter for a meal about two weeks later, and it was terrific.

My mother is in Astor House at Springbrook, and it was her choice. She likes the outings. They serve three meals a day, have a self-serve laundry room, and provide transportation, but I take her to her doctor. The staff is pretty good, attentive, and nice. I don't think their food is the best.

We like everything at Astor House at Springbrook Oaks - the facility, the people, the staff, and the way it is laid out. Mom has no complaint about the food. She joined all the craft clubs. She joins the dance classes, and choirs. She is also helping out to welcome new residents on her floor. She plays bingo. I have to mention George, and Jackie who are in charge of the facility; they are amazing. They are super-friendly, and doing all kinds of new things for the residents.

Astor House is the one we’re considering. They said they will put in a doggie door and fence in a grassy area outside our unit. They have cabins, but you have to be a resident in one of their apartments before you can move into their cottages. That means you’re going have to move twice from your present home to your apartment and then the cottage. That’s a headache. They have three meals. They don’t have progressive care.

My father is in Astor House at Springbrook. The manager is awesome, and the staff is perfect, very helpful, and compassionate. He has been there a month now. The dining area is very good, very open, and light. They are friendly. They go out on outings on Wednesdays, field trips to different places, they take them out to get medications, they play bean bag softball, and they have arts and crafts, poker, and movie nights. They should have a separate area for gardening or woodworking.

We had already decided on Astor House. We chose it because of the location. It was close to family. The staff seemed very nice and very up on their jobs. However, the rooms were very small, and they were not too updated.

Astor House was lovely too, but it was too far for me to drive. It was great, and the nicest thing about them was you could have pets. The staff was very friendly. It seemed like everybody enjoyed living there. I would have probably moved my mom in there if it were closer.
