Independence Village is so friendly, open, and so good. They make sure you are taken care of. The people are really nice; I like everything about it.

We should have taken the time to write this review when Dad was still alive and enjoying a long and wonderful life at Independence Village, but our most recent experience demanded we take to the key board and let others know about this remarkable community.
Every day Dad was treated like the most important person there - but I know every resident shared this same experience! Unlike any other place we visited before chosing this as home, this staff is kind, genuine, and respectful, treating the seniors like family.
And Dad came to consider them like an extension of his own - a comfort we all enjoyed. When we stopped to visit, we were called by name. When we asked for help as Dad aged, they helped us find it. And when Dad was hospitalized, the staff called him and brought other residents over for visits. It never ended, even after Dad passed. They came to the service, wept like we did, and offered us the condolences only family does.
This is not your ordinary "old folks home" - this is an extraordinary place filled with ordinary people who are treated like they are the most exceptional people who have ever lived. Thank you for the wonderful final chapters in Dad's story.

Independence Village seem like it's a little bit lower class place. It was clean and everything, but it also seem more of assisted than independent living place. I knew right off the bat that would not be place for my mother. She would not like the lack of space. That's how they advertised it to us when we went, but it felt more like a facility. The living space for the individual just did not compare to others. It was small. But it was clean, there was no question about that. And the people there were all very polite.
I didn't like the living space at all. I would have never picked that place as independent living place. It's definitely more of an assisted living. The living quarters are too cramped and somebody who is truly independent will not be happy in that space. It had a bed on one side, a little kitchenette, not a full refrigerator, and a microwave. There's a little area to sit in. It felt like being in a hospital room. I felt the staff could have been more informative about their own place. I felt there were questions I had that the lady I talked to didn't know the answers to. And I felt she should.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mom lived there for three years. The quality of the food was poor. The staff were very nice. The place was older and it was not updated. They had activities, but I don't think they tried very hard to have my mom participate. My mom just sat in a room there. She was never taken anywhere. They brought her a tray of food to her dark room everyday. They had just gone through a lot of managers when she was there and the last manager that was there just didn't care. They should improve on the consistency of the managers. The problem with that place was that the owner didn't live there. They had a policy that if you were one day late with your rent there would be a $250 late fee so I gave them a month's notice and moved my mom out.

I was worried when my cousins moved my aunt and uncle into assisted living. Each family is concerned with such a lifestyle change because it effects everybody. Well the name surely says it all! The residents have so much independence here that there is not enough time in the day to do everything that is available. There is an extensive library, excercise room, and arts and crafts room to keep everyone busy. The bus is always coming and going, taking residents shopping, to the bank, or out on the town where there is always something going on. Residents can even choose their own seating times for meals to meet the demand of such a busy schedule. You may want to call your loved ones at Independence Village once in a while, because they might not have the time to call you with so much going on!
