I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother resides at Independent Village. I am very pleased with the community that surrounds her. I am pleased with the quality of the food and the chef on staff. The life enrichment coordinators do an excellent job of providing coordinated and balanced activities on a daily basis. Teh staff is extremely friendly. When mom spent a few days in a rehab facility after a fall, she returned through the front door to have the entire staff sing to her and welcome her back. I love it when I'm talking on the phone to mom and then I get the bums rush because exercise or water color class is about to start.

Provider Response

Hello Larry, we are grateful to hear about the positive experience your mother is having at Independence Village Midland. Our amazing team works hard to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all residents. We appreciate your kind words and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional care and service.

My mother has been in the Assisted Living side of Independence Village ( Storypoint) for 18 months. The care and concern for her has been excellent. She enjoys the food and all the activities. From daily exercise classes, weekly manicures, monthly trips out to eat and all the other activities they have. Usually 5 plus activities going on each da. Very pleased with the facilities and especially the staff at Storypoint

Watching the thriving Independent side is bittersweet because I wish my Mom would have been able to enjoy that type of care. Instead, having to put your loved one in Assisted Living is one of the toughest realities of aging parents and it’s a full time job. The care and attention of the staff at the Storypoint side leaves me with peace of mind that my Mom is taken care of and safe while I am able to balance that responsibility along with my own family/work life. With a few medical emergencies that occurred, it was a weight off my shoulders that they were there in the middle of the night and that she wasn’t in jeopardy of needing help and not getting it for hours on end. Unfortunately, the cost of a nicer facility like this is high, but as long as we can afford it, we will keep her here. Overall, I would definitely recommend Independence Village

I visited this facility

I liked the people at Independence Village of Midland and the way they treated us and showed us around. It was a big place, and I'm not sure that you would get the closeness that you would get in a smaller place. They had a gym and a salon, and they had all the amenities. The place looked very nice and very clean. It was located near restaurants and a hospital, probably within about 5 miles.

The rooms in assisted living are safe & clean w/private bathroom. Mom has a nice view of a flowering tree thru her window. The food’s good & there’s a lovely buffet once a month. The staff is friendly & attentive. The activities are creative and wonderful. There are good musicians visiting & playing often. It’s a great place for our loved ones to live!

My dad moved into the memory care facility 8 months ago. I spent close to a year looking at local facilities, meeting staff, comparing menus and activities, and the choice became clear that StoryPoint at Independence Village was the best option. Dad has always been a high energy, active person, and I was really drawn to all of the activities and outings that are offered. Although he was not happy with the idea of leaving his home, and quite angry with us at first, he adjusted better than we'd even hoped. The facility is always clean when I visit, and my dad's room is always tidy and organized. The staff are welcoming, helpful, and caring. In more than one instance, they have gone above and beyond to make sure he receives the best care possible, and we're so thankful for that! I would highly recommend StoryPoint at Independence Village for any older adult who is struggling with memory loss and needs this level of care.

Provider Response

Hi Jennifer, We are so grateful to hear of your dad's experience in our community! We understand that the choice to move into senior living may not always be an easy one, but our dedicated team always strives to make it as seamless as possible. Thank you for your review.

My mom has been in both independent and assisted living here, and they've been gracious and accommodating in helping her (and her family) adjust to her changing needs. Both environments are warm and staffed with caring staff. Residents are encouraged to participate and stay engaged, and there are always lots of activities to choose from, including field trips. The activities and events really are top-notch and very impressive. It's been--and continues to be--a nice home for her, and they work hard to make it as homey as possible.

My parents moved here 10 years ago. They were especially pleased with the dining room because of the friendly and helpful serving staff. A wide variety of interesting activities and social gatherings are offered daily. The premises and grounds are elegant and well maintained. A big advantage of IV is an adjacent assisted living wing that allows easy visits by a spouse or friend still in the independent wing. IV also coordinates with Laurus to provide a higher level of care for residents if needed while remaining in the independent wing. We found the staff and administration to be very responsive, helpful and friendly.

I have loved the responsiveness of the staff to my questions and concerns - a critical thing for me since I live 800 miles away. Also, there is a small app for my phone where the facility posts pictures of residential life - activities in the facility and residents as they participate. Since remembering what they do during a day can no longer be remembered, it is a way to know what is happening. I get to see my parent and other residents - they look happy, engaged, and well groomed (a task they can not do on their own). The activities happen often, and look so fun I wish I could be there to join in.

No one wants their loved ones to have to be anywhere but home, unfortunately as a lot of us know that is not always a possibility. After having a mother and father go thru several other facilities there is absolutely no comparison. Let's start with the food...may not seem like that big of a deal but when you are only able to eat what someone else decides to put in front of you...well it's a big deal. They have an on staff chef with a constantly changing menu. Food better than a lot of my restaurant experiences. Then the staff....WOW talk about blown away by their service and compassion. It's like another family. Always activities and field trips going on. Not just that but the staff ACTIVELY gets the residents to participate.

My family member moved in prior to the Covid pandemic and had been there throughout to the present. We talk regularly. I live 3 time zones away. I have been very impressed with his assessments of comfort and care I have received personal texts, emails, phone calls and even a Zoom conference so I feel I know what is happening. They know him by name and by his interests I can sleep well knowing he is happy. I have not been inside so I will rate the food etc by his consistent conversations.

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. When I needed something for my friend, they were always accommodating and timely. I enjoyed the staff and directors, the other residents were always friendly and would stop and visit if they were going by. There were many activities going on in the building. Card playing, painting, reading, nice library. They seem very concerned about all of the residents.

I visited this facility

I toured Independence Village of Midland for my mother. It's a lot of fluff and the most expensive in our area. But it's a beautiful facility. They probably had the best amenities that I saw out there. But like I said, you're going to pay for all that. They had three areas you could sit and visit with fireplaces and couches. It was beautiful. I only saw two caregivers during my whole visit, and that concerned me. They had a story hour and people were all sitting around and reminiscing about what they did in their younger days. I saw some people just sitting, reading by a fireplace. I would have wanted to see more care workers because that's super important to me.

Provider Response

The friendly staff really cares about the residents. They all behave as family. We count on them and they deliver. The activity coordinators go above and beyond. They explore the local arts and music scene while balancing exercise class and painting class. My mother is very happy in independent living.

Anybody can build a building, but the staff here turn this building into a home for my dad. There are numerous activities that keep him having fun and staying connected and involved. I feel he is that wonderful combination of safe, but still being challenged to do things. Very glad Dad found this place which became his home.

When my parents decided it was time to move from their home to a smaller place with assistance, they toured three local facilities and were immediately taken by Independence Village. The attentive staff, clean and spacious apartments, various amenities, and warm atmosphere was noticed from the get-go. Staff was and continues to be friendly, timely, and attentive not only to my parents, but us as visitors and family.

Independence Village has been a tremendous blessing to my parents. My father had a stroke so my parents moved in there so she would have assistance for him but it provided so much more than that. My mom is very social and it gave her an outlet to meet new friends. Independence Village has excellent staff who are very friendly and take great pride in their work. The place is always clean and provides so many activities for seniors to enjoy from bingo, wii bowling , exercise classes , planned outings, and so much more. I can not say enough good things about the place. It provided my parents with a beautiful place to live and us children a sense of peace knowing they were safe and happy.

My parents moved to Independence Village about 7 months ago. Absolutely everyone who works there is so helpful and kind and they know all the residents by name. They all are so friendly they really helped my parents adjust to their new home. The director and Laurus staff have been right on top of my parents changing needs and so helpful with advice on adjusting to those needs. The front desk staff always greets you with a friendly smile and hello! The housekeeping staff are always friendly and helpful as are the maintenance staff. My parents have started using the salon services and that has been wonderful! Karen comes down to get them when needed and she is so friendly she really makes them feel welcome. I really cannot say enough good things about how great the staff is! The apartments are very nice. They are clean and well kept up. The rooms are all well sized with large windows. My parents have an apartment with a balcony which is wonderful! In nice weather they spend a lot of time out there enjoying the fresh air and view! There are many different activities offered but Cocktail hour and the different music events are a couple favorites of my parents. They have also participated in outings to Dow Gardens and a Loons game which they really enjoyed. The dinners are great with restaurant style service and menus! So far it's been a great experience for all of us. I feel like my parents are very well taken care of!

Our Mom is in a standard room with windows looking into nature. She has a comfortable twin bed, armoire for hanging clothes and shoes, dresser, bedside, comfortable upright upholstered chair, counter with sink, mirror and several cabinets, her own bathroom with walk in shower. We were able to supply some additional furnishings and decorate the walls to make it feel comfortable and pleasing to her. The enrichment activities are top notch and geared beautifully to accommodate the needs and abilities of our Mom and those living with her. Crafts, music, exercising, pet visits, and some wonderful ways to have fun! All medication goes through a singular pharmacy for all which streamlines things for staff. Staff members are friendly and caring, and delightful with all residents. Mom seems to enjoy the option of taking her meals in her room or at the table in the dining room at what has become her usual seat with a few residents she knows or recognizes. Food is decent but has room for improvement. We are grateful to be able to visit often, and be in communication with caregivers both face to face, through phone and email to be able to work in partnership caring for Mom. And we appreciate being able to call and get updates on Mom and even have the phone brought to her so we can chat with her. Mom has been at Storypoint for 1 1/2 years. One of the things we appreciate most is that Dad can visit Mom daily for a few hours with a nice walk from his place in the independent living building, and both he and Mom are greeted warmly by name. Upper level staffing all work together well so there is a nice community feeling.

Independence Village of Midland has been a superior fit for my mother. The staff and also residents there and friendly and welcoming. The food is superior and so are the numerous quality activities that they offer and encourage the residents to participate in. The building is kept immaculate and is elegantly decorated with a beautifully landscaped exterior as well. My mother loves it here.

My Mom moved into an apartment here just over a month ago and the entire experience has been so positive! The entire staff is welcoming and responsive and the residents are friendly and warm as well. They have the most creative activities that keep residents engaged and able to socialize with each other. Dining room is excellent too! Her room is bright and spacious. Highly recommend to anyone that has a loved one thinking about making the move to a senior community.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been a resident of independence Village and then of the memory care unit for over 6 years and what they do for the people there is absolutely exceptional! The social Activities coordinator there at independence Village does phenomenal things for the residents there from bringing a full fall harvest opportunity for all the residents and their families at the facility which included wagon rides pulled by Clydesdale horses to a Petting zoo and fun fall food like chili and soup in or out of bread bowls, pumpkin desserts, apple cider, just to name a few. They made it special for my mom that day and others since it’s hard to attend a harvest festival when you are older-they brought the harvest festival to them. Ingenious ! Residents and families could attend together! In addition it provided an opportunity to help grand children enjoy doing something fun with their grandparent and make memories petting a pony or watch a chicken strut across a lawn or play an outdoor game of cornhole or a large pumpkin Checker game. Thanksgiving dinner opportunities and Christmas as well. One year In the summer they did a 1950 ‘pool party’… Food was hamburger hotdogs chips Soda, blowup pools with water in them were around for residents to put their feet in while they ate their picnic lunch in the lawn. They had a little games with small beach balls, homemade little milkshakes for dessert. I attended this with my mom who has dementia and the stimulation and the wonderful opportunity she had to interact in both of these two events was fantastic I cannot tell you what it does for cognitive enjoyment even as a dementia patient she was smiling and she was so happy and she recognized the animals in the fall and she had a wonderful stay I’m sticking her feet in a pool and having fun outside. Let me tell you that was a lot of laughter and smiles that day. Along with 1950s music playing. Speaking of music this facility does a fantastic job of bringing in love music and musicians to let the residents enjoy a concert many times a month. A variety of music from jazz to country to accordion players and guitar players all sorts of little bands that come in that helps the residents tap their feet and clap their hands and sing along. Their craft opportunities for the residents are always appropriate and wonderful for thanksgiving Christmas and Mother’s Day and Easter Valentine’s Day and everything in between Fourth of July and Halloween snd also the celebration of the seasons fall winter spring and summer they always have some thing that they’re doing. Helping to keep minds and hands active. One thing that I really enjoy and I’ve watched firsthand is how the Activities coordinator‘s do games memory games even in the memory unit and how the residents circle up and they get opportunities to help play a game and it’s amazing they’ll give them little hints and little ways to remember things they’ll pick a letter of the alphabet and then all the questions deal with the letter W for instance they’ll give an example like who was England prime Minister - Winston Churchill or something red with wheels that you pull - wagon. These type of activities /games keep cognitive and stimulation going. Simple but great! They provide and play games along with puzzles. They bring in animals and animals are fabulous therapy for the elderly for those who want to participate and my mom loves animals so it’s wonderful to see the elderly just told little ones like little babies and there’s something about an animal that is therapeutic. They do so many good and amazing things socially for those residents at this facility. I have so many more wonderful examples but I have limited space here. Since my mom can’t drive but always loved to go driving and looking at Christmas lights during the holiday season one year they made sure that happened so that residents could go and look and watch Christmas lights from the safety of the Independence village bus and it was so kind and so sweet. She loved it! They do sing alongs and my mom loves to sing so even with dementia she loves singing and music. This facility has honed in that music is one of the avenues to reach people with memory loss it is in this avenue of music that then opens other doors miraculously for cognitive abilities to occur. The staff there is helpful and friendly and accommodating. As a daughter who has a mom in this facility these many years it is a place of shelter that is safe and environment that takes incredible care of her! The environment of positivity and the wonderful help with daily needs along medical things that needed for my moms health care has been exceptional! I have not had one time where the staff hasn’t worked with us to make things better for my mom as she continues to age. I can’t think of a better place for my mom healthcare wise meeting those needs there as as well as her social interaction needs and everything in between. So much more to share. Not enough space! Thank you Independence Village and especially the memory care unit for caring for the wholeness of my mom as she ages! Our family is grateful for you!

My in-laws are in Midland's assisted living. It's an absolutely beautiful facility. The staff seems to be very friendly. I like the fact that when they have an activity for the residents, they email those activities to us. If there's something we can participate in, or photos we can bring in, or something, I like that they keep the families aware of what the activities are per week or month. The food seems to be good and it's just a really clean and attractive place.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived in Independence Village for three years and the time has flown by very fast. In fact there has never been a dull day in all of these three years. First, I was pleased by the way I was treated by the staff. They all seemed to know my name from the time I moved in. They called me by name even though I didn’t know theirs. If I had a problem or question they were eager to help. The staff starting at the top has regular communication sessions plus written notes to keep the residents up-to-date on what is going on. The outside of the building is very nice looking with very good landscaping and the inside reminds me of home with its bookcases of interesting books and its comfortable chairs and paintings on the walls. The apartments are comfortable and are cleaned every two weeks. The laundry rooms are adequate and functional. A short distance from my apartment is an exercise room with good equipment and a television set to entertain while working out. The internet and TV networks are functional and reliable. I was also attracted to Independence Village because of the many friends I had here when I moved in and the friends that I have added over the last three years. I have lived in Midland for many years and have been able to comfortably continue my Midland activities as if I were in a private home. In addition Independence Village has many in-house activities to add to my list. This leaves me with more activities in which I can possibly participate. This requires planning but is a nice problem to have. The Covid crisis was very well handled with in-house shots available and very much attention to detail such as wearing masks and keeping things clean and food being sent to each apartment during the crisis. This resulted in no cases of Covid by any of the residents. Compared to other retirement homes around the nation this was a remarkable achievement. During the confinement to our rooms the kitchen employees came around with food and the life enrichment people entertained us with treats and fun parades and other activities. We are now back to dining together with its social attraction and good food to enjoy. My family lives all over the US and they are kept up with what is going on at Independence Village by messages from the staff. This procedure reduces concerns about what is happening to me as a resident. Before I moved in to Independence Village I visited many other retirement homes and I think Independence Village was a very good choice.

The rooms are bright and functional. They all have windows to look at bird feeders and a yard. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They always have fun activities for the residents. The food is excellent. We moved our mother from a memory care facility in Texas where her cognitive abilities were in decline and she seemed quite depressed, to here where her cognitive abilities have improved markedly as has her outlook. We regard this as a small miracle.

My parents have been living here for almost six months. They get individual attention and genuine care and accommodations from the entire staff including the director, Alison, to the individual caregivers, the hair stylist, the hospice staff, etc. It takes a team! Katie, the Life Enrichment Director, has exceeded our expectations with providing activities for the residents especially during these challenging times. I could not have wished for a better facility for my mom to live in! We moved her in just over a year ago, and have been thrilled with her care. Her physical and mental health has improved since moving in. The staff is very communicative, using text, email, and phone to stay in touch, and helping Mom do video chat with me whenever requested. The staff there are constantly coming up with activities for the residents to keep them entertained and engaged. My mom has loved getting to help plant flowers, decorate Christmas trees, go to exercise classes, and even help with dinner when she wanted to do so. Her room in memory care is cozy and home like. I also love that they have salon services on site so Mom can continue to easily have her hair done. I can not thank the staff enough for all that they have done to make my mom feel at home all while keeping her safe and healthy!

My father was a resident at IV in Michigan during this awful pandemic. I live in Georgia and was not able to visit in person. One particular member of the staff on more than one occasion assisted with a video chat with my dad and that really helped me deal with not being able to visit in person. I joined the Facebook group for IV and saw that they were always doing special themes of the day to keep the residents engaged. I could tell by the pictures the residents loved it. The only other feedback I can give was that everyone I talked to in my family told me how great the people were and how attentive to his needs they were. My Dad did say that he liked the food much more than the two other places he was at (one in Florida and one in Michigan before he got into IV).

My wife and I especially appreciate the investment that the staff (all levels) makes in developing and maintaining relationships with the residents. For my Mom, who has mid-stage dementia, this continuity of daily relationships is a key feature of making her life as pleasant and meaningful as possible. Especially during the recent period when a few COVID-19 cases were in the facility and residents were confined to rooms, staff made extra efforts to touch Moms daily living and care for her. They communicated with us well during Mom’s bout with COVID-19 and helped smooth the process of getting her to and from the hospital when she became dehydrated. We have developed a lot of trust in their engagement with and caring for Mom, being grateful for their accessibility and readiness to communicate with us whenever we need it.

My father was a resident for about 7 months. He turned 98 while there and his body was failing but his mind was sharp to the very end. The staff at Story Point were all very compassionate, caring and competent. The innovative activities and celebrations they planned were enjoyed by Dad and helped to keep him happy and engaged. The daily exercise sessions helped his body and he enjoyed engaging with the staff and other residents during these sessions. Dad enjoyed the food and liked having choices for each meal. Even though Dad was there during Covid, the staff did their very best to help keep him connected with family, through Zoom and Facebook meetings and via emails to us to keep us informed of activities and how we could participate. During Dad's final days, the staff was very compassionate and kind. Along with Hospice, they helped him pass in peace and were comforting to family members. I highly recommend this Independence Village-Story Point facility.

I will begin by saying, I have never been inside the facility due to Covid. My Dad was there from June 11, 2020 - January 7, 2021. Not being able to visit him in person was very difficult but I am very glad Independence Village fully implemented all Covid restrictions. I so appreciated their efforts to keep families involved by sending us pictures of Dad and doing extensive posts on Facebook. These really helped to lessen the pain of not seeing Dad face to face. The activities they do with the residents are amazing and constant. You can’t help but smile and be happy that your loved one is so entertained. It really helps to fill their days. It also gave me something to talk to Dad about and let him know that I was still part of his life. The staff is very caring and helpful to both the residents and family members. The rooms always appeared clean and tidy as I peered in the window. Dad really enjoyed the food. He spoke highly of the variety, taste and appearance of his meals. All in all Dad’s experience at Independence Village was very positive. I only wish I could have gone inside and seen it in person. I don’t regret that because I know they were doing everything they could to keep the virus out and the residents safe and they did exactly that. A top notch facility!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The facilities are very clean and neat. Staff washes dad’s sheets and clothes regularly as needed. The room is comfortably large, and the high ceiling helps to make it feel less closed in. Windows to the outside are large as well, and offer the opportunity to be opened (they are screened). Residents have wardrobes in place of closets. Bath is fully equipped for the needs of the handicapped, and a sink with mirror, cupboards and a mini refrigerator complete the layout. Staff members have been very kind and considerate of dad. They also have had to respond to increased requests for information from family due to the COVID lockdown there, and have really worked hard to do so. Dad loves the ice cream truck, and the fun things the social director arranges to keep up his spirits and those of the other residents there. I haven’t been privy to many of the other amenities offered due to the lockdown, but I did appreciate being allowed to visit with dad in person for his first seven days there even during lockdown (after having a negative test for COVID). Dad aldd see o went on a drive in the community van to see the Christmas lights downtown once. They have a very extensive staff, and a specific breakdown for care - stage related. In comparison to other similar facilities, they are more expensive, but you get support from many different staff members who focus on specific needs - social/emotional, physical, and administrative. This seems to work smoothly. Things I wish they had: a bigger garden area - dad loves the outdoors.

From the day we moved Dad in, the staff was incredibly supportive, involved and made us all feel welcomed. It’s unfortunate that during this pandemic we’re unable to actually visit in person with Dad. We have however been able to FaceTime with him and have window visits with him! The staff is always willing to help in this regard and is always available if you have any questions. His room is nice and clean. Television, desk, armoire and private bathroom . There are also activities available that he has participated in and has liked. He likes the food and has options for entrees. What’s really important is knowing that Dad is in good hands! They are attentive to his needs 24/7 and continue to keep us updated on current information.

I cannot recommend Independence village of Midland highly enough. When widowed, my mother needed more social support than she could get living in her former house... but wanted to retain her independence. For our family, Independence Village of Midland has been a perfect solution. I have been so impressed with the entire staff there. Every staff member, from the front desk to the chef, and everyone in between, always greet my mother by name and inquire after her wellbeing. Mom says this is a daily event and not just for show when visitors arrive. The activities coordinator and staff have really gone above and beyond to arrange appropriately socially distanced activities to keep the residents engaged (safely) during Covid. Not a day goes by that mother doesn't mention a "Santa Parade", a "circus event" in the hallway, or a "dress up like your favorite team" day. I have also been exceptionally impressed by the professionalism of the staff as regards medical events [which are inevitable with so many seniors]. On site "Teal" care providers can evaluate a resident who isn't feeling well and help make a determination whether a higher level of care is needed. Allison, the amazing director of Midland's IV site has a nursing background... and has really owned the responsibility of providing a safe-as-possible environment for the residents during the Covid Pandemic. The professionalism of the community is apparent in her communication to residents, families and staff about the changing Covid guidelines and the steps the village takes daily to ensure the safety of their residents. Because of Allison's leadership, and her exceptional staff, mom is supported personally, socially, medically and in activities of daily living, if needed. While she does not currently require additional medical support... there is comfort in the "continuity of care" model at IV. When community members need more support, they can receive additional services in their rooms for a fee, or be transferred a higher level of care at the nursing home on site. While the organization and leadership are impressive, it is the smiling people that make IV a community and a home. The staff are cheerful and accommodating, the residents are caring and look out for each other. As a physician, I am relieved that my mother has attentive medical resources at IV, as a daughter, I feel the community is the premier place for eldercare in Midland.

Our parents have been in all three levels. A facility like this is never any better than the staff, and these people are INCREDIBLE. They are loving and kind, and go well beyond their responsibilities to keep our parents safe and healthy. They work very hard to keep our folks active and interested.

Independence Village of Midland was very nice, but they have no closets. You have to put all their clothes in the cabinets instead. They had residents sitting around a girl who was reading stories to them. If they get hungry in between dinners or at night, they have food there for them. They have plenty of juice and water for them during the day. They have transportation, an activity room, plenty of space to have a party, and a library. It's a beautiful facility.

Have had a family member here for a couple of years and am glad we made this choice. Very clean (cleaning staff is very pleasant too & friendly with the residents), comfortable & nicely decorated, like that the assisted living section is limited to about 25 residents (more personal), staff is very caring & friendly!! Lots of activities for those residents that want to participate - crafts, trivia games, bingo, outings, a variety of musical entertainment, puzzles, etc p. Activities Director Katie is the best - she is always upbeat & kind to the residents!!

Independence Village is a well lit, clean facility. The staff are knowledgeable and kind. They have activities almost everyday, and social affairs with family and friends often. I hear the food is good!

It has been outstanding at helping us navigate the transition of my parents from independent living through memory care. Staff is always accommodating and goes out of their way to help. Dad is participating in activities he would have never tried on his own. He really enjoys them.

Great staff, friendly and kind, many menu options, activities for all interests, clean and welcoming environment. My parent is very happy here and I know he is safe. People can choose from indoor or outdoor activities including trips to restaurants, apple orchard, farmers market, Dow Gardens, as well as music, painting, exercise, bingo, wii games, nature presentations, special speakers. The food is delicious with options for varied tastes. The chef is open to resident suggestions, special meals are prepared for holidays and other events. All the staff knows my dad's name and he knows theirs. Housekeeping is excellent and the grounds are kept beautifully. I'm glad he chose zindependent Village as his retirement home. When he can no longer drive he'll still be able to get around with the available transport van. Thanks for the great environment!

I visited this facility

I was very impressed with the Independence Village of Midland. Their independent living section was extremely nice. I did not tour that much of their assisted living wing. They said they have done studies and that the ideal size for a room is 250 sq. ft. because they don’t want the residents to stay in their rooms that much; they want them to get out and mingle. That was a little confining as far as I am concerned. They had a lot more open activities, and I thought there was a lot more going on. It was a larger place for one thing, and the spaces that they have available to do things are larger, properly decorated, and a little better movement like the food area, which was nicer.

Their price was too high. It was very nice, and I like it, but I couldn't pay like $5000 or $6000 a month. It wouldn't take long to use up your savings. The room was very nice. I like it. It almost hooked me, but I can't afford to pay that much every month. We had lunch there, and the food was very good. Overall, it was a very nice place. It was very clean. They had nice a library. The activities were very nice too.

My mom moved in. It's a nice facility with independent living, assisted living, and memory care. It's really nice and clean, and the staff is attentive and meets our needs just fine. They have exercise, music, recitals, discussion groups, and movie nights. The food isn't great, but it's decent. The dining area is right off the activity area and is very well-kept, there are lots of windows around, and it is a nice place to sit and eat.

Independence Village is a step up from the other place I visited and more expensive. The rooms and building are more upscale. The dining area is very luxurious, and the chef is amazing. It’s a wonderful place.

Independence Village was a nice and very large place. The rooms were very large, very spacious and very nice. The people working there also appeared to be nice. It would have been an ideal if it didn't cost more money. They had a nice walking tracks around the complex.
