I visited this facility

Carveth Village is wonderful. The doctor recommended it. He has been a supporter of it for years and years. It is private, but he supports it. The people who work there are locals from Middleville and from Hastings. A good share of the people here in town know someone that was there. Everyone loves it, and everybody has nice things to say about it. My husband will be there for assisted living. Three generations have run this business, and they started it. The staff made me feel really positive about the place. I liked her attitude and her energy. It was more than a job; it was a calling. They have different levels. They have cottages where you can live independently. They have private rooms and semi-private rooms. The one that we looked at was the semi-private, and it was just perfect for a man. My husband would have a man for a roommate, but there's big partition that separates both the rooms. There is total privacy. You could have a chaise lounge and your TV. It's almost like a studio apartment, but there's two of them together. They have Wi-Fi access. They have a landline phone, too. One of the things I really liked about it is that the girl that took us on tour said, 'I'm cooking tonight.' It is not just institutional food. It is family food. The dining area is large, comfortable, and open all the time. They are busy in there, and they use it for a lot of things. They have a calendar of activities for the month. Activities vary. We toured it on Halloween day, and all the trick or treaters from the school were coming through. It was really fun. Everybody was dressed up in costumes that day. There were other stuff going on. They had coffee all day long, and they were having an Italian dish that that the staff was making that night. Everything looked good, but I didn't taste anything.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Carveth Village. We love it. It's beautiful and it's nice. She is so much happier to be around people that are her own age because she was living with me. They do so very fun things there. Tuesdays are always Music Day, so I like to go that day. Usually Mondays, they do bingo. They usually have a church service on Fridays. They have their own little garden outside. They took the residents to the local greenhouse. Their money is harvest money and they got to purchase stuff and take care of them this summer. They're just neat little things. My mom shares a room. There's a huge wall that divides it. The only thing they share is the bathroom. The bathroom is big, so each person could have their storage there. They have privacy in their own rooms. It's a little bit financially cheaper that way. My mom has a huge window that you could sit down in. She puts her plants and pictures and stuff in there. They furnish all the beddings, but I furnish her comforter and stuff like that. It's quite spacious. The closet is huge. It's nice and it's carpeted. They also have single-room suites, they even have couples, but that's in a different area. They have a beauty salon and a courtyard there, too. The staff are really good. A lot of them are seasoned help, which is nice. Because it's a smaller community, I think that's why they've kept them. The food is great. My mom is always happy with the food; I have been there to witness it a lot. They had a huge picnic there, and it was remarkable all the effort that they put into all that. I was impressed. Everything is good. Even just going in and getting the paperwork done was a breeze. The person that is running it knows what they're doing, and she wasn't afraid to give me the rules. They're upfront about their policies, which I respect. They call me all the time. Like they called me just to tell me that my mom wanted to sleep on the floor that night and that my mom asked for two aspirins, and that's nice. I like to be in the loop.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I am headed there today to do a outing with my grandmother. I have multiple friends who have loved ones there and have done nothing but given great reviews. Placing my grandmother has been very difficult as I want nothing but the best for her. I have looked at multiple reviews, went and dined there, and visited my friends relatives spending countless hours there. One thing I can say is their staff is very loving, knowledgeable, and have that passion for the elderly you don't see often. The place is clean, does not have that "old people home' smell, the food is fantastic, and there is this vibrant young lady who does activities all the time. Any questions I have had I can just stop by the office and always get the direct attention of either the owner or the administrator. Most places that are assisted also have less staff and don't have 2 nurses like this place. As I said I'm always checking reviews to see if anyone has different views. As I also stated I only want the best for my grandmother, and Carveth Village is the best. She is so happy there,

The facility is severely understaffed. They rely on untrained agency staff. Ratio is either 3 aides to 20+ residents or 2 aides to 30+ residents

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My experience generally pleasant. My grandmother and grandfather appeared to be well taken care of despite their disabilities. The nurses would check up on them frequently, and they were on top of when they were supposed to go eat or take their medications. I was able to dine with my grandparents in their dining hall and the food that was provided seemed to be of a very high quality given that it was mass prepared for hundreds of people. The food was diverse enough that I do not believe my grandparents would have been malnourished or missing any important food groups. There was also a fairly wide selection to accommodate various diet needs that might need to be met. There was also an entertainment facility where people were able to do various arts and crafts. It was well stocked and had a large number of things that could be done. Overall I think that this facility turned out to be a good place for my grandparents and I would recommend it to other families who need a place for their elderly members to stay and for whatever reason cannot accommodate them at home.
