I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

What I liked best about Horton Plaza was just the amenities and meeting my mom's needs for her pets. They have a secured area that she can get out on her scooter and ride or even take her dog for a walk on the property and still be secured. I liked that some of the rooms actually have a little cooktop. They had an oven also available in a room on the second floor. So, whether it will be used by my mom or even just family, if we wanted to come in and do something, that was an option for us. We happened to know somebody who lived there and talked about the activities and that they had a lot of varied activities. They had a really nice library and they were setting up for a tea party. I know they do fifties parties where they decorate a room into a fifties diner. They do some different things that some of the other places either didn't talk about or we just didn't know about. They had outside patios available for their apartments and Mom could actually fence off her patio or part of her patio for her pet. They allowed for her, if she wanted, to put in a pet door. So, they are catering to some of the wants that she would have.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My family members were able to move in quickly and welcomed so warmly by all staff and residents. The staff make an effort to know each resident by name. The staff have been punctual with most repair/hook up work/services that needed doing once they moved in. I especially enjoy seeing the interaction of the young waitstaff with the residents, they even stopped by to visit the residents on their way to Prom! Housekeepers are amazing and kind. I am only rating 4Stars for Facilities as their Wifi needs to be stronger for guests in my opinion.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Horton Plaza is a delightful place to live and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. All the staff are professional, yet they are there for the residents and fun to be around. There are so many activities to enjoy, and the staff is always looking for new ideas. There are many health benefits from numerous exercise options to nutritious, delicious food with many choices to choose from. The kitchen staff goes out of their way to help with special needs. Moving to Horton Plaza was an excellent choice.

I visited this facility

I visited Horton Plaza, and they were very nice and very cordial. I am waiting to go back on the second tour to see what they're doing. I want to just get more in depth with what they're involved with, rather than just a normal overview tour. They had a variety of food, but the meat on their lemon skewers was very tough. The room that I went in to check out wasn't up to snuff. It needed to be upgraded, as well as the kitchen and the cupboards. The lady who took me on the tour was so nice that she wrote down everything that I didn't care for. She said that they're very good about making changes if you tell them. I liked Horton plaza for that reason because they care about upgrading.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband and I have a friend that is more like our father who has lived there since July 2019. We are his POA and his health care reps. They are refusing to let us in (even after COVID lock down is over) because I swore and my husband wrote a negative review. Within an hour of writing the review we got a call saying he would not be allowed in either. The manager's actions are retaliatory and she has shown she does not care about our friend's care as before kicking me out I was in the process of hiring care givers for him. I asked her to work with me on this and she would not. She actually advised me to take him out to conduct interviews (while he was sick during this COVID crisis). Clearly this was not in his best interest and I can only assume they are more concerned with liability issues then the well being of their residents. They actually talked to a lawyer and had them send us a no trespass. The longterm care Ombudsman who we called to advocate for us told us that the letter would not hold up in court as residents living there have the right to see who they want. He confirmed that the manager wants us out because of rudeness/swearing and the negative review. She even went so far as to say that they do not want the residents to swear either. This is very disturbing for us as our friend is losing his memory more and more and needs our oversight and care. Please do not put your loved one in this facility.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I feel that some people in management really do not care about the residents. My wife and I are the primary Legal Health care Reps. and are not allowed to care for our 88 year old sick friend because, first because my wife disagreed with a policy and used a cuss word and was kicked out. Than I shared this review with them and they called me on the phone today and said that I am not allowed at Horton Plaza. We were not even offered a meeting to work things out. We have been taking care of our friend for years ever since his wife for 57 years died. We moved him into Horton Plaza a few months ago. I would not recommend Horton Plaza to anyone after the way we were treated. I am in my 70s and we love our friend very much. He could pass at any time. It is sad that one person in charge would let a disagreement keep us from caring for our beloved friend. I feel thankful that most of the people working there are wonderful and kind.

I visited this facility

This facility is not family friendly. We accepted an invitation to visit Horton Plaza and returned an RSVP including three children (2 grade school, 1 teen), three older adults and five senior citizens. We asked specifically if we could bring the children. We were told they would be welcome. However, the staff person who greeted us at the door, informed us that children were not welcome at the event. It was an embarrassing and awkward moment as part of our group was already seated. We were seated after the very distressing exchange. If part of our group had not arrived earlier, we would have left. We will not be placing our newly widowed Mom at this facility. She had arrived earlier and was already seated. We did not tell her about the issue the staff person had with her three great grandchildren until after the event. Any long term living facility is only as good as the people they employ. We were shocked at how we were treated. If the staff is treating invited guests rudely, I worry how they might treat residents when no one is looking. There are some truly lovely retirement communities in Jackson County. This may be one to avoid.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Horton Plaza is the fourth community I've been in and is probably the best. My apartment is comfortable because it has everything, like my own heat and air conditioning. The food is not too bad. Aside from the daily special, there is a menu that is pretty good. We have very good social activities and a lot of trips, plus movies and lectures going on all the time.

I visited this facility

I would characterize Horton Plaza as friendly and inviting. It’s not a new facility and was small but very up to date in terms of the activities that they provide. They do field trips where they can connect with other senior living centers and really cool activities like balloon festivals and all kinds of things. The dining area seemed nice. The food was above average. The staff was friendly.
