Reviews of McHenry Villa Senior Living

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My mother did some volunteer work at McHenry Villa several years ago, and she liked the atmosphere and the people, so this was her choice based on familiarity. They seem to genuinely care about the people there and are doing their best to help her. For the time being, she is happy, and that’s all that matters.

McHenry is in my home town, and my dad said it’s the best place in the area. They have a lot of transportation. They do have a lot of activities, and they have people that that come and help you out. The people working there are great. She’s going to have physical therapy, and we could do it right in the building. The apartment has two bedrooms, two baths, and a nice living room. We had lunch there, and it was really nice. They have a bus that takes people around, a patient bus from the hospital, and another that takes you around town. Plus they do weekly dinner out, and take you to plays and movies. All bills are paid, including three meals a day, laundry, and once-a-week cleaning. We will move there in February.

I am/was a resident of this facility
I am a current resident at McHenry Villa and have been told that I am the youngest resident at the age of 58. From meal time to social hour there are many activities for everyone to take part in. The staff is helpful and friendly making residents feel special when they call us by name. I would recommend Mchenry Villa to anyone looking to live in a senior community...it's a great place at a great price.

The building is slightly dated but always clean. The location is perfect for active to semi active seniors to be mobile outside the building. I thought the food was pretty good and have enjoyed a few meals there with my grandfather who is a resident. The staff have plenty of activities, including trips to the casino for the residents to live their own lives. The owner is ON LOCATION every day. My only complaint would be for the physician who visits the building. The Dr never keeps a regular schedule for his visits and comes when he wants and spends more time talking about himself than answering questions. Centegra hospital is 5 minutes away, trust me, see one of doctors that is actually affiliated with the hospital and keep your loved one away from the "home health" doctor!!

The building is a bit outdated but kept clean, nice location if you have a family member that wants to get out and around for a walk, many of the residents are physically and/or mentally unable to do so. Standard activities: movie on the big tv, bingo, exercise group, shopping trips in town to Walmart or Jewel - does not appear to be any excursions for the mobile and able bodied.
Food is not good - they lack a true chef/cook that can make healthy meals for the residents (heavy on the salt). They do not have a warming station so many of the meals are near cold when they arrive at the table - residents can wait up to 15-20 minutes for their meals. Portions are large - often much more then many of the residents can eat.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and do their best to make the Villas a nice place to live. Local church representatives come in for mass or rosary during the week.

The McHenry Villa is a very nice cozy place for anyone to stay. The employees there are all warm and heartfelt and very easy to talk to about any questions or concerns. Although it is not perfect, for a small town like McHenry, the Villa does an amazing job of making their guests feel very comfortable. The location is great too, the recently redone river walk is a perfect place for aunt to get out and enjoy the fresh air. They have a remarkable kitchen staff too. I was expecting almost hospital like food, but it's more like home cooking. My aunt can also attend church services right there on site, and they also provide a beauty/barber service. The downtown McHenry strip is less than a block away for convenient shopping and dining.
