We're living at Brandon Woods at Alvamar. What I like best about this facility is that our apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The staff has been very cooperative and very good. We like them. They have different choices for the rooms. They have from 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom apartments with two bathrooms available. They have more choices than a lot of places have. It's a 3-story building. The food is acceptable. You have the choice of eating in the dining room or if you have difficulty getting around, they bring the food to your apartment. They have a lot of activities. They have an activity department and they have a lot more activities than we want to get involved with.

My parents stayed at Brandon Woods at Alvamar. It was just down the street from their house, and the food was good, but the place didn't have a way that they could be together. My father went to the hospital, so they got separated. The staff was insistent about putting my dad in a place where there is a sliding glass door and there are dogs, and they're going to put mom in memory care because they're concerned about her escaping. This place totally wasn't going to be able to meet their needs. They put my mom in memory care and they initially put my dad in independent living, but when he fell and broke his hip, that was going to necessitate assisted living. They're a very large facility, and they have a lot of different areas. They have skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, and memory care. I was told that they didn't have an apartment that they could both be in. We did a window visit there. The staff was a mixed bag. Some people were really good, but there were others that I wasn't too happy with. There was an activities director who was pretty good, but she eventually quit. I sent emails and I asked about the whole situation with my mother's transfer to another place. My son and I got her things, and her room was really dirty. It was my understanding that they were going to transfer her to the other place and my son and I were supposed to move her things. As it turned out, that wasn't the case. I got a surprise call at 7:00 that night asking me if I was going to pick up my mom. Nobody told me that. I was upset that she had been waiting around. I was a little confused because it didn't make sense to me that on one hand, I'm being told I can't go in and visit her because of COVID, but on the other hand it's OK for me to pick her up when I wasn't going to be six feet away from her in the car. I picked her up and she was still in her pajamas, so I drove her over to the other place in her pajamas.

Wonderful staff! They interact with all their residents. When Mom's alert button battery gets low, they show up at her room to replace. They check to make sure her door is locked at night. She has so many activities to choose from! I ate several meals with her. All but one were very good! Facility is clean and well maintained. My mom loves it there, and I'm comfortable and pleased.

My mother is in Brandon Woods at Alvamar. They're very nice people, and we got into the room just fine. We're very happy. The director helped us find our room, and she was absolutely wonderful. The facility is beautiful, the rooms are very roomy, and the food is fabulous and more than I could eat in a meal. The cost is rather high for what I'm getting, but it seems to me that Lawrence is just a very expensive town.

Brandon Woods had connections with the University. There was a room for religious activities. I didn't see most of the residents because they stayed in their rooms nor activities, but they had them posted.

I lived at Brandon Woods for a whole year in a duplex and loved it. They have a library, swimming pool, and all kinds of activities. I chose it because it was close to my home. I liked all the activities that they had and the swimming pool. I liked it that you could belong to Alvamar Country Club if you went there. They have a wonderful dining room and excellent food. I like the people and the cultural offerings. It's very expensive. They have Bible study, church services, movie every night and all kinds of outings that you can go to. If I had lots of money, I would go right back to Brandon Woods. It has everything I wanted.

My mother has been at Brandon Woods at Alvamar for six years now. It is beautiful. It's one of those places that has a very elegant feel to it. The decorations are impeccable, and the rooms are nice. Accommodations are just lovely. The staff really care. I don't have any issues with them. It's a wonderful place. She plays bingo, does crafts, and does exercise every day. They have fabulous food and do an excellent job.

Brandon Woods was a big place and didn’t seem like the place we wanted for Mom. It’s one of the places where you see residents sitting around in the wheelchairs who didn’t seem to get the attention needed. It seemed pretty clean, and the rooms were small but nice. There were a lot of people, and I don’t know if the staff paid attention to everyone.

The staff at Brandon Woods was friendly. They apartments were small and access doorways were not ADA, and it should have to be ADA compliant. The food was very good. They have sing-alongs, bingo, outings, and movie nights.
