The Long Community at Highland

I stayed at The Long Community at Highland and I was very satisfied there. It was an independent living community, so I didn't have any care, but it was a very attractive building. It's 10 years old and there were 3 separate buildings. The apartments were very roomy and in a nice location. There was nothing like pools or walking trails or anything like that, but it was right on the edge of Lancaster and it was very convenient. The things surrounding it were restaurants, grocery stores, and postal services. You get a $100 per person per month allowance for the food, but it wasn't as good as it should have been. They had movies every week and they had ladies' night, just ladies get together for dinner. And they were just starting to get some other activities going. The staff was great.

I went to The Long Community at Highland. It was more independent, but they did have a cafeteria. I didn't see any of the community rooms, it looked to me like an apartment building. It was very nice. I met the person that did the tour. I just met the person that did the two wars, I didn't meet anybody other than the young lady that showed us the available unit. She was very nice, answered all our questions, and she was very, very informed. I think it was two or three stories high. It was more like an apartment. We went to see an apartment that they were going to paint and replace the carpet in. We looked at their storage facilities, and their hallway was very nice. It was nice.

My wife is at The Long Community. I visit there about once a year, and it’s a nice place. Their apartments are really big. It's a new facility, just about three or four years old. The food is good. They have physical fitness activities twice a week, and they have buses that take them on tours, and they go visit different places. The people are friendly there, and they are all about the same age. Overall, it's a nice place, but the design of the apartment isn’t the best. I don’t know if they can change it, but if I were to design an apartment, I wouldn’t design it the way it is. For example, the shower is too big, and it doesn’t have any handrails, and for older people that is very important.
