I am/was a resident of this facility
Brookdale Irving is a good place. We live in a cottage, where we have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and a pretty yard. We go out and get our meals, but we can cook if we want to. We only got one bath. Everything is furnished, and they keep the yards. We don’t pay anything but a flat fee, so I have no complaint. They have a three-story out in front, and then they have 27 or 28 cottages out back. I think the food really needs a lot of help because a lot of the girls are quitting. For people like us, I would recommend the cottages.

My aunt is in Brookdale, and we save almost $2,000 a month compared to the one they are before. It is big thing, and we are getting everything exactly the same. When we moved her in, they are in the process of remodeling all the rooms, including her room, so she has a brand new room to start with. They have lot of card games, especially bingo, which is my aunt's favorite game. I will recommend it to others.

I visited this facility
Emeritus at Irving was very clean. The lady who showed me around was very nice, she was lovely from beginning to end. The smallest room was 400 sq. ft. but it was big enough. It was set-up so that you could have everything you needed like the bed and couch, although the closet was not too large. We had lunch and I was surprised that the food was very good. The thing that bothered me was they only brought you food for 3 days a month, I guess you had to be in the assisted living area if you wanted more than that. My only problem was the long distance to walk from the room to the eating places.

My experience with this facility has been most positive! I moved my mother there from an assisted living facility in another city, where she was so unhappy. After months of assessment, we felt she didn't need assisted living. Emeritus Irving (formerly Summerville) is an independent living facility; it has enough space so not to feel crowded, but it's not so large that one has trouble navigating oneself to the dining room, laundry, etc. It feels cozy. Management has extended every courtesy to my mother and my family and the staff seem to really care for the residents. The meals are actually pretty decent! I dine there with her at times and I was very surprised. My mother has friends now, as she wasn't very social before (due to her extreme hearing loss). She engages in conversations with other residents and participates in the meetings pertaining to policy of the facility. She attends most of the socials and she is able to practice her faith along with others who share like beliefs, which is so important. My mother has truly blossomed there. I'm so grateful to have found such a wonderful place where she can truly feel at home. I work in the healthcare industry (hospice) and have worked in so many facilities in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, albeit short-term (a few days to a few weeks; I have learned that a beautiful, expensive facility does not a desirable one make. It is the staff and their welcoming, sincere attitude which helps a resident successfully transition from home to facility.
