I am/was a resident of this facility

I've chosen to stay at Nora Commons on the Monon. I signed my new lease and I have too many friends here I didn't want to leave. My experience here has been a combination of good and not-so-good. There are a lot of activities available. If the activity doesn't exist, you can start your own. I have a couple of groups that meet regularly, and we have a theater that has recently reopened. They closed it when COVID started, but it's recently been reopened by a new resident doing a wonderful job showing movies several times a week. We have very nice apartments here. The maintenance here has not always been good. We have a new maintenance staff and it seems to be very, very good. But there are problems with security. We have people who leave doors ajar and leave doors open, so anyone can just walk in. We even had someone throw a brick at the door and break the glass a couple of months ago. The management staff here in our building has gone through a lot of changes. We've had managers leave and new managers come. The apartment I have now has a very nice layout. I have a 1-bedroom, 1-bath. My bath is extremely large. You could get a wheelchair or two there. The kitchen is very nice out of a center island for extra counter space and extra cupboard space. It's very adequate, really, for everything I need. A group called CICOA provides meals 5 days a week and they only charge a small donation and they are supposedly nutritious. I've tried them and nutritious is one thing, but taste is another. They're very good for the people that need that. We have a large library with lots of books and computers for public use. We have many, many conference rooms that can be used. There's one room that has puzzles and tables. We have several meeting rooms and a beauty shop. We have a quite large cafe with a kitchen area, and we have parties there all the time.

I visited this facility

I went to Nora Commons on the Monon. I like their location because it is close to where I need to go and it's close to shopping areas. Things you need are right there, but the roads are really bad there and the apartments across from that looked shabby. The inside was nice, but the outside looked like it was declining from when I've seen it years ago and it does need work. I liked the rooms, and the staff was nice. The place was clean. The rooms had a very small dining area but I like that the kitchen comes with an island so that you could make that your dining area. It made it more spacious and it's designed for people with wheelchairs and things. Overall, I would choose Nora Commons. The view from the apartment was nice because they had a nice garden area where you could look out over your patio or balcony. They had a game room, pool table, board games, and a TV. The game area wasn't that big, but they had some common areas on each floor where you can gather together and do things. They only had showers for the one-bedroom. To get a full bathtub, I would have to get a two-bedroom, which I really can't afford.

Nora Commons on the Monon would have too much walking. The halls are so long that if a fire would get in the building, it would take everybody 10 minutes to get to the elevator. You may not be able to get down. The house is so dark, and you have to go around a corner, then you have to walk another hall, and then another hall before you get to the elevator.

I found Nora Commons online. Their apartments are big and have huge walk-in closets and storage. The people who showed me around were very helpful.

I visited this facility

I was waiting for an apartment to open at Nora Commons. I visited the facility and the apartments were very nice. The rooms were roomy and the people were friendly. The atmosphere was very pleasant and there security is great. They don't have a pool but they do have Yoga classes, a wonderful library, and they had card clubs, activities in the evening. They also have road trips, they go to the theater. They took people to shopping. I was very impressed with the place. I thought the place was very well run and it was very clean. I think it's going to be a delightful place to live.

I visited this facility

My aunt lived in Nora Commons for eight years so we considered the place for my mom. It has an enclosed balcony and a patio so the safety is good too. The staff is excellent, the manager showed me around, he was very polite, very patient and answered all our questions. It's a lovely place; it's stellar compared to some of the places here in Indianapolis. Their stuff is really made of good quality. The activities are a lot better, they have more to do and have transportation for those who need to come and go. The shopping areas, drugstore, and things that my mom would need are right there. The menu looks very healthy but I wasn't able to eat there.
