I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents moved into Elliott Place. It's just the right place for what they need. They have a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom deluxe apartment. The food has been pretty good for them. They've had a couple of days that, just like at a restaurant, you buy something you don't care for. But for the most part, the food has been good and it's well-balanced. They've got activities going on all the time. I've seen them out there enjoying bingo and other games. The new maintenance guy is awesome. The food service lady and the cleaning lady are both very personable and professional.

My husband and I liked Elliott Place. It was near a nature preserve, so it was very quiet with a lot of grass, trees, and gardens. We liked that there were no stairs. There were several different large apartment-type living in several different houses. So, it wasn't just one big building. There were many houses in the community on that piece of land. The 1-bedroom apartment was huge, and it was very well set up. It was the biggest 1-bedroom we had seen. There were 3 huge closets, a full kitchen, and a huge updated bathroom. The staff was very nice and very helpful. They were very polite, and they were very good to my mom. They were very accommodating.

I toured Elliott Place. The tour was OK. The apartment was nice. What they offer as far as senior living is up to one meal a day, which would be good for someone because they said it's like a four-course meal that they give for the lunch hour. So a full-course meal could actually end up being two meals; that could be a lunch and a dinner for senior citizens. The lawn was nicely kept. The upkeep of the buildings was nice. The parking was very convenient for senior citizens as far as a person in a walker or a person that can barely walk. Getting from the parking lot to your apartment didn't look like it would be that much trouble. They have a laundry facility right in the apartment. They have handicap accessible restrooms, and the restroom was very, very big, so that would be very good for somebody that's in a wheelchair. The staff who assisted me was friendly. It looked like each apartment had a little patio.

We toured Elliott Place, and it has very nice yards. They have a front and a small back patio and grass. Dogs were allowed and they even had some dogs like a Lab. It was a nice, friendly area. I thought that the $1,755 or 95 was with the food and everything but it's $2,200 with the food. Once I got that figured out, I'm like, "Okay, yeah, we don't make that much money." But I thought Elliot Place was lovely. Kelly was very nice. We saw a lady coming out from getting her hair done and she looked like she was just so proud of her hair, and she had a walker. My friend saw that, too. The place was beautiful and well-maintained. The maintenance staff were outside. They waved and smiled. It would be very nice if we lived there. They have an onsite beauty shop. I just saw the office and I saw the exterior there, and when my friend drove with me, we saw the back patios and how people had them decorated differently. Some had flowers. It was a little patio spot, perfect for a chair and a small table but very, very nice. I like the fact that no one had to do any gardening. They gave me a list of all the activities for the month, the food list for the month, and the puzzle things that they do. Kelly gave me a lot of information.

The girl at Elliott Place gave me a tour and everything. She gave me a tour of the room, she even gave me a copy of their schedule for the month, and I even got to meet some of the other residents. They were just finishing up a project that the ladies were working on. They're very nice and very friendly people there. The place was clean. The one employee that I talked to was very friendly and very helpful, and knowledgeable. The place is set up securely. They told me about the security measures they have. Being that it's a small facility, I think it would have worked for the situation we have with my mom. They gave me a tour of the actual facility. She took me into the apartment and showed me the whole apartment. It was nice. There are different apartments. This is just a one-bedroom with a living room, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. They have another one-bedroom that had a more handicapped accessible bathtub for the shower, so there were like two different ones there. I saw books on the shelves, so I saw a library-type thing, and I've seen a sunroom. They have a walking trail that was like a walk around the facility, but it was in a nice shady area, so that wouldn't be too hot, and it was all paved so even somebody with mobility issues could get out and enjoy it. Each apartment has its own outdoor patio, so they could do their own little garden if they wanted something like that. I asked about checking on people, but the staff said there are always activities going on, so somebody is always around. They have a van, and they take them to the grocery store every Thursday or Friday. They have buses or a van that can take them to local doctor's appointments, too. They only have one meal and that's around lunchtime.

We liked the area where Elliott Place is located and that they have the amenities for those people who have disability, which we needed. The person that showed us the place was really knowledgeable, informative, and helped us to really understand what was being offered. They have outings, movies, and transportation to the store or to hospital visits. We liked the place from the inside and out. We liked the way it looked, the floor plans, and everything.

I visited Elliott Place. It was very nice. It looked nice and quiet. Their prices were OK. They didn't have the walk-in, but they would put it in for you at their cost. They would pay for it. Everything there was nice. The rooms were spacious. They offer assisted living and independent living. Medicare will give my wife assisted living. She probably won't need it, but they offer that out there for assisted living. I saw their dining area and their little community areas. They looked nice. The staff seemed very nice and helpful. No problem there. They were all nice to the residents. They spoke to them as they passed by. Some staff engaged with the residents, too. It was wheelchair accessible, and easy parking and everything. The parking was nice and close. The facility was nice and clean.

I toured Elliott Place Senior Living. The pavement in the driveway was broken up and had holes. It seemed like it was an older facility, and it wasn't very well maintained. It just seemed kind of shabby to me. The staff was nice and helpful. I didn't spend much time there. I didn't check anything out when the rooms were kind of shabby and the parking lot was so not maintained. That was enough for me, so I didn't need to see anymore.

Provider Response

Karen, thank you for the feedback. Currently we have on-going construction with lots of heavy equipment coming through several times a day on our campus that has greatly impacted our drive. Once this is completed the drive will of course be repaired and re-paved. We are very proud of our community and while it is an older community each year we look at improvements that can be made for example we repaired/replaced sidewalks, we installed LVT (luxury vinyl tile) in some of our common areas, as we are "flipping" apartments we updating things such as in flooring, cabinetry, etc. But in truth when it comes down to it the reason most people choose to live at our community is not the looks but because they love what our staff provides - a very caring and nurturing environment. I hope that you find this in the community that you do choose and wish you and your family well. If in the future you have a need I hope you will look at us again.

We went and visited Elliott Place yesterday. We liked that very much. We liked the facility, and the space was great. It was clean. It was very, very adequate space for the belongings that my relative was wanting to keep. It had enough independence for her to live the way she is used to living and yet with the little bit of assistance that she might need as she ages. In the room, there is a full kitchen and a space for a small dining table. We looked at a one-bedroom apartment and it had a lovely large bathroom, and the closet space was wonderful. The laundry facility was just down the hall, and then there was a common area where they would gather for one meal a day, which was provided as part of the package. The staff that showed me around was very helpful. We were there at lunchtime, it smelled delicious, but we didn't try any food.

Elliott Place was one level. It seemed kind of older than other places I toured, but I like how it was located. It was older and didn't seem as clean as the other place. The staff who gave me the tour was nice, she gave me a lot of information.

Elliott Place Retirement was nice and looked clean. The person I talked to was cordial and provided good customer service. The dining area was clean. They had the food option and assisted living that comes in a couple days a week for care which is an additional charge. I saw a beauty shop and fitness center. There was an activity sheet you can look at to see what was going on.

At Elliott Place, you have your own little apartment or house. You could eat with other people, but you'd have more ability to be separate. Unfortunately, they're too far away for me. They increase their levels of care as people need it. The staff was very cordial and helpful, welcoming, and caring. Each apartment was separate.

The staff people seemed knowledgeable, and they were welcoming. If I would live there, I would like to know that those kinds of people are the ones who are overseeing where I am living. The apartments were adequate. They had a living room and a dining area, and the kitchen appeared to be adequate. The bedroom was a decent size, and the closet was adequate, if people managed what they have. It had a little patio, which would afford you some opportunity to do a little patio gardening or something, and there was a walking trail that I thought was really interesting. I think Elliot Place is really an acceptable place, and it is OK. The walking trail was not really a scenic walking trail, and maybe it should be longer than it is, but it is probably adequate for what they need. One thing I like is that the grocery stores that I frequent now and different things are really close, and the reason that made me stop by is because it is pretty close to where I live.

Elliot Place was great. It was a nice place. Everybody was nice, and the place was clean. My husband and I live right down the street, so we always cut through the complex. The people are nice and seemed very caring. I would have moved my mother there in a heartbeat if we could have. I would recommend them highly. They're very inexpensive even with assisted living, but it was just too much for us. They're probably $1500 to $2200 a month because they don't have all those amenities. However, they don't have 24/7 emergency. If someone hits an emergency line, it buzzes the manager, she comes up and checks what's going on, and then she calls 911. I think it's a big waste of time if somebody is having a heart attack. That was one reason why I didn't go with them. Another thing that I didn't understand is that its $1300, then it was like $1500 for someone to come in and help clean plus food and laundry. The only thing they did is clean once every two weeks, change the sheets, and wash the towels only because their personal is on their own, and then it was just one meal a day instead of three meals. For $200 - $300 more, it's cheap, but one meal a day didn't make sense to me.

Elliot Place was lovely, big and spacious, and I really liked the bathroom. The staff was very good, very attentive, and very informative. The thing with them was my mother was going to be put on a waiting list, and I needed to get her out as soon as possible from where she was living at. They were top-of-the-line.

I like Elliott Place so much. The apartment is extremely spacious. They have trips, exercise groups, singing, and card playing. Everybody I meet is fine and helpful. There are four buildings, and they are pretty big. Each building has two areas where you can do things like puzzles, which is kind of small. Then, there is a large area in every building, and I know that's where we have the exercise. It is a perfect fit for me. My kids are quite nearby, and it is really a nice place. It is 33 acres. So, although you are in the middle of the city, you do not know it. There is a wide lawn space, and the whole place is surrounded by trees. It is a peaceful place in the middle of the city.

Elliot Place was nice, but it was quite a small place to live. The rooms were in pretty good shape. I don’t know about the buttons that they got all over the place. They said that they had a button at the kitchen and the bathroom in case you got into trouble. Somewhere else, they were up high on the walls, and I was just wondering if somebody fell to the floor, they couldn’t reach those buttons. I went to one area where the older people were, and it seemed OK. The staff people were good. They need to improve their security buttons. They were up on the wall, and if somebody fell, they couldn’t reach them.

Elliot Place is a totally different feel. It was a small community, which was nice. The apartments were beautiful and a very nice size. What I didn’t like -- also because it is independent living -- and I need something with a little more care than that. I need something in-between and there really wasn’t something like that, at least not in there. The layout was nice. Inside was some kind of gaming room area, a very nice sun porch area, and then there was the dining area. It was not like big game things, and I would not see structured things being set up all the time. Because it is independent living, it is not whatever they want to do, but there were things available. I would have picked this one first if it had three meals a day. It only had one meal, but they said that they were making it available so that it would have another meal. It was going to be that they would take it to each person’s room because each person is different as far as when they want to eat and when they would go to bed, and so I liked that. The other reason was that they didn’t have somebody on-site available. If you were to pull an emergency cord, they didn’t have somebody to come and assess what was going on. It just immediately calls the fire department. The fire department would come out, and that happened three times within a month. You would have to do something else and it would be about $500 a shot every time they came out. But they did say that they were hiring a company like a care company of some sort to be on-staff to assist in that. So instead of the fire department being called, it would call somebody to come in and at least assess the situation and see if further help needs to be done. They really needed that but I don’t know if it is in place yet. I actually loved the apartments, but for assisted living, it was even more than what my uncle would need. Like the kitchen, he wouldn’t need that at all. It had a very nice kitchen. It was a very nice one-bedroom apartment.

Provider Response

We thank the writer for such a positive review of our community but want to clearup some mis-information. We do have an emergency button in every bathroom and bedroom which goes directly to fire department and Raytown EMS. In the history of our campus (since 1998) no resident has ever been charged for a "false" or accidental call. Raytown Fire and EMS are great to work with and understand that in working with seniors sometimes accidental calls happen. Additionally, a member of our staff also responds when there is an alarm pushed. We are there to verify if the call is a true emergency or accidental, to provide assistance with information to Raytown Fire/EMS and to provide comfort to our residents. In addition we are currently partnering with Royal Comfort Services - which provides assistance with medication monitoring, bathing, etc. They too can provide assistance when the emergency button is pushed. We are a retirement community and our goal is to provide as many available services as we can to allow our residents to age in place.

My visit with Elliot Place was very pleasant. The lady was very knowledgeable and able to answer all of my questions. It was a very nice facility. The staff member that I talked to was very courteous and knowledgeable. I did not have any problems. The apartments were nice, homey, and clean. The facility location was ideal. The grounds were clean and well maintained. For what they offered, the price was very fair. However, it was more than what I wanted to pay.

Elliott Place was very nice; however, I just can't financially do it right now. The director was very nice. We looked through a couple of places and saw some of the people who lived there and talked with them for a while, and it was a very good experience. It's primarily a living facility and had an open eating area if you wanted to stay there and have meals. The places are more like a home with a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, so it's like moving into a one-bedroom apartment. They have planned activities for people to get together depending on what they were interested in. It was very nice to be able to walk around and get outside on a small patio, where you have the ability to do some gardening. They have quite a large area they're planning to build on, so they're planning to expand. I would highly recommend it. The Elliott Place is approximately $1,300 a month. Everybody is on one level, and they had their own space.

I liked Elliot Place. They had a walking trail and people that came in to do exercises on different days, or you could go to the fitness center downtown. They had a garden for anyone who wanted to work in a garden and different activities outside that the bus would take them to. It was nice. I liked that it was quiet. The staff was very nice. The dining area was fabulous.
