I visited this facility

Village on The Park Steeplechase was very nice. It was a large facility. It had a lot of nice sitting areas. We looked at a studio-type apartment. It had a refrigerator and a microwave. It had a mini kitchen, so you could get snacks and stuff. The place was very nice, too. They had a lot of outdoor space. They had a very nice area with sidewalks and everything.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend moved to the Village on The Park Steeplechase. We absolutely love the cottages. They are one- and two-bedrooms and they have their own garage and carport, which is really awesome. If you don't use your carport, you can set up lawn chairs and stuff like that, which is really neat for the residents. It's gated and all the residents out there are out and about. It's all inclusive. All the meals are included and that's awesome too. As my friend progresses with her age, she won't have to pay a transfer fee. It's also located around where her son lives and her church is, and that was the other big factor, honestly, the location. Most of the other facilities don't have cottages as well and she didn't want to be in an apartment building. It was the most economical of everything in Houston. You get the most bang for your buck and they all offer basically the same services. The meals are good. The place smells really good. It doesn't smell like a nursing home. They have a beauty/barber salon, bible studies, games, an ice cream parlor, and nail salon. They have someone that cleans their room for free. It's all included. They have a little thing that you wear around your neck and that goes in the shower or wherever you are, and you can push that 24 hours a day and someone will come. It doesn't matter if you're independent living or not, and that's huge. It's a really good set up.

I visited this facility

I recently visited Village on the Park Steeplechase to see my relative who resides there, and I am deeply troubled by what I witnessed. The ED, Angel, displayed alarming behavior towards residents, including physical force and derogatory language. Despite reports and ongoing investigations, it appears that these concerns have not been adequately addressed by corporate management. Such behavior is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the safety and well-being of residents.

Village on the Park Steeplechase was pretty good, but the price was a little bit steep. In terms of activities, I saw them in action there. The residents were together and playing cards. The room was good. Cleanliness was very good. There's a library there. The building was very nice.

I did a real tour of Village on The Park Steeplechase and it's a good place for us. They have what I want, they have the independent care and the little cottages, and independent care apartments. Then when we eventually need it, they have assisted living and memory care. I like that the individual cottages are like duplexes, one wall of your cottage connects to another but it feels like a separate little home. It's got this little carport, garage, and front door. It feels very much like an individual home. They have well-kept grounds, a nice little dining area, and an ice cream parlor area. There is more than just ice cream socials and it's very nice. I had a meal there and it was good, my husband was able to order his hamburger. They offer quite a few activities. We met a lot of the people there, basically the business people, the gym person who does the exercise things and the lady for the hair care. The staff was very nice and very kind.

I don't want to say anything negative, but Village on The Park Steeplechase probably isn't where I would want to stay if I was looking. Everybody there was very nice though, and it looks like they serve meals, which is good. The cottages, with my friend being 90 years old, were too far away from everything. Everything close and within the main building is assisted living. They had garbage pick-up, and it looked like everything was well-maintained. We were only there for like 45 minutes so we didn't see a whole lot. We weren't there during mealtime so we didn't get to see any of that too. I think for people who are more independent, the cottages are fine. They also have closed-in garages, which I thought were nice. Everybody was very nice and wanted to help us. My friend is 90 years old and walked with a cane so they got a wheelchair to wheel her around. They were very accommodating. I think they played bridge and bingo when we were there.

I visited this facility

Village on The Park Steeplechase had the individual, like cottages/homes that we toured, and we liked that about the facility. The apartments were kind of small, and there were no laundry facilities in the apartment. You have to share those. We didn't like that. They have shared facilities in the apartment area, but you have to share, it not in the actual apartment; the laundry facility was on the ground floor. This was the nearest to where we live now. It just wasn't a facility that we would consider just because of the small apartments. The cottages were nice, but it wasn't really what we were looking for. It also looked like it was a little bit of an older crowd staying there, and we wanted a more active community. The facility was clean. The guy who gave us the tour was sort of new, so he didn't know a lot. We were able to see the menu. The food, dining area, and facilities were very nice. They had plenty of activities, and we saw the activity charts. They had crafts set up for them to do, and little stuff like that. It wasn't anything that we were interested in doing right now, maybe it's based on the crowd that they do have. They have a pool and it was nice.

I visited this facility

We have selected Village on The Park Steeplechase for my mom. We liked it for the amenities it had. It was close to some restaurants, they had a pool, and it was reasonably priced. The apartment was nice. It had a backdoor that led to a kinda patio outside instead of just having one door to the hallway. We liked that. We liked the pool, too. Out of all the places we looked at, this was the only one with a pool. It's close to the bus station, so that was a plus, too.

I liked Village on the Park because they have individual cottages. They also have everything you need in the kitchen. They said if we want to experience what it's like to live there, we can come and stay for a month. I definitely thought that was a fabulous idea. We had a meal there, but it was catered because they had a crawfish boil. They had different dining rooms for those who wanted a quick meal, and a bigger dining room for those who wanted a bigger meal. I liked that it's gated, and the staff is very nice. They also had an outdoor swimming pool.

Village on the Park was very nice. We liked it and think it's going to be our choice. The food was good, but the facility and the apartments were a little small. It was more assisted living than independent living. What I liked the most were the staff and cleanliness of the facility.

We've decided on Village on the Park. It's going to be a new construction that is added to the independent living, so we must hold on until they complete construction. That's where my mom will be going. As soon as I found out that they were extending and expanding for the assisted living area, and also Alzheimer's wing, I knew that this was the best case scenario all the way around. My mother lived in the independent living part, and so the plus to us is that it will be familiar to her. There were a number of things that she really liked about it. They have flexible meal times. It's just not sitting down and eating at a specific time. The room is almost identical to the room that she had before and same layout as what she has now. The fact that it's new, and that we really like the place, felt very safe and secure, so we think that this is a winner. I do know that they have a variety of church services that are there that I know my mother will enjoy participating in. They have crafts. For holidays, they invite and include families. They have special times, and it'll be like going back home. The staff was great. Things that they did not have answers for, we will get answers to. I do know that they're working on that and planning and scheduling. They're very accommodating and willing to help. I've e-mailed several times, and immediately they've responded right back, so they've been very good at communicating.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Village on the Park wasn't far from where I live and I just passed by, I saw it and I came in. They had what I wanted, 2 bedrooms and two full baths, car porch and a garage and that's what I was looking for. It's always clean and they keep the grounds good. For those who don't want the cottage, they have the other part where you'd be inside most of the time, you have a porch. I like it because it was a 1-level. Food is always on time. The food I like really because it is fresh cooked on ground. They feed you three times a day then you have maid service come in once a week. They have activities all that you can think of, picking up, taking you to places, going on trips, exercising, bowling, it's plenty of exercise.
